I think he should always "accidentally" drink sake or wine or whatever for all of his battles!

Rock Lee almost gets killed for protecting Sakura, and then Sasuke steals his moment of glory. Anyway, Rock Lee drunk wouuld cause problems, such as this.  and this. THis is for you Neji,Gaara,Lee,andNaruto lovers! ((note the Sasuke in the corner, he is a stick gigure because he is nonimportant.))

Well if Le was drunk all the time he would never be able to use his speed right, and he would never be albe to open the 5 inner gates, on top of that he will never know when to shut up. Then no one will sell him any sake.

I agree it would be out of character, and too much alchohol is bad for you. He could die of alcohol poisening, or liver failure, and probably other conditions I don't associate right away with alcohol.
