She was rather nervous about actually doing that, but that was for another day. Today she'd have classes she could make sense of quickly. History was a class she did rather well at in her old school, and found interesting.

Dani raised her hand in response to the Professor's question, and she replied, "Um, history is our story of how we got where we are now. We study history because if we don't, we will forget whom we are and where we're going."

Eva shuffled into her seat just as the professor began talking. So many people had answered with different iterations of the same thought. She tried to come up with something different, thinking hard to herself. Then she thought of something and raised her hand. "Aside from the 'history repeating itself', you can look at the past to predict what could happen, influencin' the decisions you make." She straightened her robes and hair as she settled in.

Axel shuffled into the classroom. His soft gaze veered from face to face and house and house, but so far, neither of his siblings were around. He doubted that Cash would even show, the bloke never seemed too keen on schoolwork, or any kind of work, in general. (Not that anyone else in his family had, but, still.) He rolled his wand back and forth on his desk, and when the professor told them to put it away. ”Aw bullocks,” he grumbled. Should'a known I wouldn't need it. He didn't know why he was so surprised. So far, all of the other girls in the class seemed to be taking a try at the question. Axel tried his best to blend in, so he wouldn't be called on.

Eugene quietly entered the class just like what he always did in his former school when he's pretty alone. He sighed as Elijah wasn't here, he couldn't find him anywhere. He hoped that he won't get lost in this huge majestic castle. On second thought, his friend was not stupid, he will find this classroom as possible.

He slouched on his chair while listening to Professor... Powell, was it? He was supposed to say that 'History was something to learn from past mistakes because there are times that it repeats itself', but the girls got the answer already. Now they've said it, he had no need to speak and decided to blend in instead. He glanced some one student to another, listening to some thoughts about why history can be learned.

Eli entered the classroom and noticed the various people already there. Sliding into a seat next to Jean, he listened to the seemingly distracted professor as he addressed the class. Had the class interrupted him while he was reading? He was honestly confused for a moment, wondering just why he would be so distracted. When it came down to the Professor Powell asking why history was important, Eli thought for a moment. Everyone but the boys had answered, and he rose his hand, already trying to think about the answer. It then came to him. "We're supposed to learn about history so we can improve on what was learned before. I mean, someone had to come up with the wheel, and then someone had to think of attaching it to a board to make a cart, and then someone had to attach handles to it to make it easier to move, and then someone had to put poles and straps on it for something to pull it, and cover it with something, and on and on until you end up with something like a car that my parents have. Every advancement has history, and studying different advancements means we can improve upon them." Okay, maybe he went a bit overboard with explaining his answer, but he kinda had to, right? Hopefully he didn't confuse everyone with it.

I will keep quiet.
You won’t even know I’m here.
You won’t suspect a thing.
You won’t see me in the mirror.
But I crept into your heart...
You can’t make me disappear-
'Til I make you!
I made myself at home...

In the cobwebs and the lies: Bored
I’m learning all your tricks: Who cares?
I can hurt you from inside: First Years
I made myself a promise: History of Magic

Morven wasn't sure if she would dislike this class, but she was positive she would be bored out of her mind by it. Maybe some of her classmates might find it intriguing, she thought dismissively, but she'd heard about a lot of this, and the rest of it she doubted she cared about. Who cared if a bunch of witches had been burned years ago? Any decent witch should have been able to save themselves, anyhow. She rested her chin on her stacked up text books and managed to keep the petulant stare off her face.

YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME CRY.

You’ll never know what hit you...
Won’t see me closing in...
I’m gonna make you suffer...
This hell you put me in!
I’m underneath your skin...
The devil within...
I will be here;
When you think you’re all alone.

Camila smoothed her long dark locks, the fly-away hairs took a bit of convincing before they were at least manageable. Her heavy legs and rounded belly swung ferociously down into the seat beside her step-brother, Axel. She prodded him with the end of her wand under the desk, he jerked and swatted at her, but missed. ”Heheheh,” she giggled quietly, hiding her mouth behind her hand as she tried to pretend that she was actually paying attention.

Kalin walked into his first class ever at Hogwarts a tad disappointed that it was History but excited all the same. He took a seat next to a rather nice looking blonde girl with Slytherin robes (those were the ones that were green right?) and took out some paper and a quill to take notes only to find himself in the midst of a discussion. What did History mean? Most of the others had said some really good things so he kept quiet and tried to act like he was paying attention.

"Having fun,"

Gunilda slouched into the class, again late for the third time due to the moving staircases. They either moved too fast or too slow or just randomly stopped. She sighed and sat down. Well at least History of magic could be interesting. What was history? "The past mostly, documented so it didn't repeat itself and to help better the judgements of today's people, so we can learn from the past and about it." Gunilda blinked, had she said that out-loud? She cringed, not having meant to. In the end she simply smiled awkwardly, glad that she hadn't said anything weird instead without realising.

Celaena walked into class shortly thereafter. Class would start soon! She had been busy trying to discover the reason for the staircases to move, but hadn't seen the time til a picture had told her she was going to be late. She wasn't very spooked by the picture, since it really wasn't that unusual. The pictures at home often moved. Just never really spoke unless spoken too.

"Hello Professor. History, does happen to have a sense of repeating itself, but if studied people hope to keep those things from repeating. But it's not also that, if we forget how we started, then hypothetically speaking, we would become deranged. Or so my father says. He has us learn as much history as possible, so we don't forget what makes us who we are now." She said. She was confused about her father's reasoning but that was her answer...

Grayson grinned, realizing that the students, well, the ones that replied, had given them all their own opinions on why the subject had to be learned. He leaned back onto his desk, crossing his arms and looking over the students assembled. "You are quite correct. Every event, every time when something happens, is a learning experience for all parties involved. After all, if these events didn't happen, we would be repeating the same mistakes, and human advancement would not occur. When we look back at history, we can see the people that came before us and either learn to be like them, learn what our collective past has to offer, and learn from their mistakes. I know that probably half the class will not like history, and that's okay. The only thing required for this class is the willingness to learn, and the ability to think about what the lessons are trying to teach us." He glanced around the classroom again before giving the class a half-smile. "Well, so I don't start sounding like Professor Binns used to, you may all leave for the day. Assignment for the next class is to read up on the history of the school itself. Beyond that, enjoy the rest of your classes."

"Hello class, and welcome back. Today, we're going to go over the history of Hogwarts."

"Hogwarts was founded in the ninth to tenth century by its founders, Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They came together to build the school due to increased suspicion of muggles and magic, and wanted to teach students without fear of prosecution. However, not all of them agreed on which students should be accepted into the school. Salazar Slytherin wanted to only admit purebloods, which was at odds with the other founders. He left the school, and never returned.

"Hogwarts was one of the finest institutes for magical learning by the thirteenth century, and together with Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, started the Triwizard Tournament. However, due to injuries and deaths resulting from the tournament, it was disbanded six centuries after it started. There have been many attempts to reinstate it, but none have been successful.

"More recently, the school has been the site for many different incidents in the last century. It was here that Voldemort learned his magic, and here that Harry Potter defeated him in the Battle for Hogwarts. It has also been the site for the most recent attempt for the Triwizard Tournament, and obviously remains a major school for magic today."

He looked about the class. "Now I know that some of you may have questions, so don't hesitate to ask. I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability."

By all means, Cathy wasn't stupid, but she was innocent. She truly believed the best in all people-especially her family-even after she had gotten her Hogwarts letter and realized her entire family had been hiding the magical world to protect her, thinking she couldn't do magic so there was no reason for her to find out about the wizarding world. When, she had gotten her letter she assumed secrets would stop, and her big brother had seemed more than happy to help prepare her for Hogwarts, mentioning subjects, topics that were gone over in his first year, and what he knew about Hogwarts and the professors she would have. She had been so bogged down about learning other subjects she hadn't gotten around to touching her history textbook like she had hoped to. After all, how hard could history be? It was something she was naturally interested in and she was more worried about the other subjects she wasn't familiar with-and David had stressed that she should focus on subjects she wasn't naturally as at ease with, like history.

Yet, as she gotten to reading her history book, which she tended to read at night, now that she was at Hogwarts, she found herself more and more baffled and wondering if David had specifically been dodging certain topics in history that was less favorable. She was beginning to connect the things she read about history of the magical world finding what she did know about her family more and more odd. For example, there was the whole thing about blood status which she would think would have ended with the Battle of Hogwarts and Voldemort, but if she did the math there was the fact her father who couldn't do magic but was born to the magical world was so weird about magic. And, why would they have been so secretive about the magic world if Cathy's Mum was a witch, her father came from a magical family, and even David was a wizard? Also, there was the fact that Salazar Slytherin the founder of the Slytherin house had been so adamant about 'purity' of blood and apparently every person in both sides of the family besides her father's mother and David had been Slytherins. It left her with more questions than answers and she was sure that David was hiding something.

As Professor Powell lectured she quickly and diligently copied notes with the pink quill she had chosen at the quill shop. She frowned slightly as she quickly finished her notes a few moments after Professor Powell asked if their were any questions. If her brother and her parents were being evasive she would figure it out on her own, then. Raising her hand she asked once called on, "I know from what I've read that the Sorting Hat tries to sort students by the traits that the founders of each house valued most... if Salazar Slytherin valued 'purity of blood' so much does that mean the hat considers that an important trait? I mean, the belief about pureness is a retired belief, now, right? Or mostly... And, what exactly defines 'pureness' of blood?"

She paused and realized she had asked several questions and turned bright red and said, "Sorry, for bombarding you with a dozen questions, Professor Powell. I just am having trouble piecing a few things together." She smiled innocently and waited for the professor to answer, her blush fading to pink though not leaving entirely.

                                                                    Fɪʀsᴛ Yᴇᴀʀ |❶| Gryffindor |❶| Mᴜɢɢʟᴇ-ʙᴏʀɴ

It wasn't a surprise to Dani that there was more to this place than she was aware. It made sense the school would be made a place to learn magic in secret away from normal society. The modern world was crazy enough without adding magic to the mix.

Then there were the names. Harry Potter and Voldemort, and that they had a battle for Hogwarts, the school wasn't just the scene of a battle, but it was fought over by these people.

She wasn't exactly thrilled with the concept of 'pureblood' wizards, that had some nasty connotations in her mind. Dani really hadn't been here long enough yet to really formulate any opinions good or bad about these people, or the other Houses. As far as she was concerned, though she knew Gryffindor and Slytherin were rival Houses, it was as the same to her as Manchester United and Arsenal.

Dani raised her hand, and asked, "What's this Tri-Wizard Tournament about, Professor? When's the next one, and what do you have to do to be eligible to compete?

Iris Alethea Whitte~Hufflepuff First Year~Pure Blood

My heart can't possibly break.....

Iris listened to the lecture, taking notes as the teacher spoke. Her mouth opened before she realized it. "Is the hat ever wrong?" She covered, quickly, smoothly. "I mean, most eleven year olds don't have finished personalities yet. Who is to say that that one is actually brave, not just unaware of consequences? Or that child is smart, or loyal, or ambitious? There must be mistakes sometimes, cowardly lions, featherbrained ravens, selfish badgers, follower snakes," Iris said.

She knew there had to be, because she....she was not loyal. She wasn't. She was never going to buy into that lie, fall into that trap. She would not be a spineless victim, no matter what some ratty old hat said. Then again...Iris felt the pleasant expression on her face, the mildly curious furrow and moue, with none of the internal rage she felt. .....maybe it was already too late. Maybe the hat was right after all. Maybe it didn't matter if she believed the lie, as long as everyone else did, and she was already lost the moment that cursed hat touched her head.
