Camila blinked and tilted her head to the side; she gave the appearance of a dimwitted mutt, which had more of less fit her. She cocked her brow, and even tried to interject once or twice. She did manage a few words in, right before she snapped. ”Seven hells, I did just say that I didn't think that. I'm sorry your family had to shelter you.” It wasn't so much as an apology as an accusation, but she shrugged her shoulders and let the girl continue. When the Hufflepuff boy spoke up she nodded. ”At least someone understood.” She rolled her eyes. By the end of it all, Cathy's quill was in a mess of ink on her desk, the girl was furious—she almost looked like she was about to explode— her voice was shaky, too. (Was she about to cry?) It was only then that it had occurred to Camila that maybe the other girl wasn't just doing this to make a scene and disturb the class and have an excuse to ditch out on the rest of the lesson and any homework that might come along with it.

Because if that was the case, then the girl was a bloody genius! Camila was starting to think she should have done that herself, too. By now, the Hufflepuff girl was gone, and one of her housemates erupted in an uproar of laughter. Camila couldn't help herself; she started laughing too. It wasn't like Camila had meant to hurt anyone's feelings, anyway.

”Oh, don't worry mate, some of the best of us are.” She gushed and smiled, placed a hand to her heart for over dramatics. That's when she glanced over at Oswin, she nodded and tried to quiet her laughter down to a low chuckle. ”Righ', righ', sorry 'bout that.” She finally fell silent and smiled. Maybe if she apologized and smiled she wouldn't get in trouble.

One moment, they were having a lively discussion about the Chamber of Secrets, and maybe even the nature of evil and prejudice, the next Cathy was reacting to a comment by Camilla as though she were being judged by old Salazar himself.

'This isn't right,' she thought resolutely, 'and if her own Housemate won't do something, I will.' Dani stood up from her desk, and addressed the teacher. "With your indulgence, Professor Powell, let me see if I can get her to come back."

Dani rushed from the classroom, uncaring of what the other students might think of her actions, and set out to find where Cathy went.

Jean's head suddenly turned from his textbook when Cathy suddenly snapped. His jade green eyes widened as she ranted; Squibs? Inferiority? He had no idea about what squibs were, but he had a feeling that it was something Cathy was offended with. As Cathy picked up her things and rushed out, Jean suddenly stood up and wanted to chase her. However, the Gryffindor girl was faster than him. What was he going to do now? He did not want Cathy to be told by two people to go back, that would be 'too many'. He sighed with guilt and frustration as he had no choice but to sit down and let Dani do it. He cast a glare at the two Slytherin girls, thinking that they do not have second thoughts about what they were saying.

What a way to have a year in Hogwarts. More drama were coming on their way. Jean had enough of his; first was Eva, now Cathy?! What exactly was wrong in this school? He could not help it and snapped, "That wasn't even funny... AT ALL. Couldn't you just have at least some second thoughts?" He said as if pointing out that for him, this wasn't funny at all. They just made her cry for glub's sake and they're laughing about it?

"Having fun,"

Gunilda's mouth fell open at what Camilla said to Cathy. Squibs, were not magic stealing muggles- anyone with common sense knew that! It was a horrible nasty thing to say, and Cathy didn't take it well, and swept out of the room, in tears. If that wasn't bad enough, someone else joined in. Gunilda found herself feeling unexplicably mad at her fellow slytherins, and before she could stop herself, she snapped angrily; "Oh shut up you self entitled little brat- so what if muggleborns know less than most? I've been living in a muggle town since the day I was born, and hell, it didn't do me any harm! In fact, if anyone needs a better education, it's you if you really even think that there are magic stealing muggles!" The words had slipped out without her even thinking once before she spoke, she was that annoyed. And to think she had been placed in the same house as them, these self righteous...Slytherins. Just when she had finally become comfortable with the house she was in, her own housemates proved to be despicable. Gunilda really didn't see any way she could truly fit in here, if that was what they were supposed to be.

For the most part, her laughter had simmered down to a dull, little chuckle that wafted under her breath. She flickered her quill between her fingers, flipping it between her knuckles to keep her hands busy. One of the girls who happened to be in the same house as her, had had enough. She burst, snapped with a feverish insult that wiped the smile off of Camila's face entirely. Her lips stretched into a grim line as she slowly twirled around to face Gunilda head on. ”Excuse you.” She snapped back and scoffed. So what if muggleborns know less than most She mocked her. ”I'm sorry, did I say that? No. I don't think I did—I said this once. I said it twice. And I will bloody well say it to again to any of you twits who weren't listening the first time.

“I. Do. Not. Share. Those. Views. You little prat! Maybe you should listen. It's an opinion—do you even know what that is?—it's a bloody opinion that means nothing. It's not my ******** opinion. It's JUST an opinion. It was to shed light on the questions that SHE asked. So if SHE didn't want to hear it, SHE shouldn't have asked.”
Bloody hell, how many times was she going to have to say that before people finally heard it.

A loud bang suddenly erupted from the front of the classroom, and Powell, after locating his wand, lowered it and glared at the offending students. Tucking his wand away, he looked over the rest of the classroom, deciding that he needed to do something. And considering the subject in hand, he knew that he had to do it. "I do not care if people decide to discuss the subject at hand, that is fine. However, that does not excuse people for attacking each other for giving facts. It is a fact that people believe that muggles steal magic from wizards. People still do. I was accused of it during my time at school once or twice. Does it make what happened right? No. Does it mean that people that state that fact should be attacked? No. Twenty points from Slytherin for the argument, and Miss Stone, Miss Rojas, and Miss Vass, you will report to my office Thursday night after dinner. If you believe that this is appropriate behavior in class, you are wrong. You are to act like proper witches and wizards while in this class, which means respecting each other enough not to attack one another for asking questions or stating facts. As for the class as a whole, everyone please take out your textbooks and turn to the chapter on the Chamber of secrets and write a five hundred word summary on the construction of, the events pertaining to, and who was involved in the chamber itself." Grayson took a seat afterward, giving the class a look over before settling back. He was certain that if there was anything else other than the sounding of quills on parchment, he would be deducting more house points.

Morven wasn't able to get the snide comment she'd been crafting in her head for the past few moments in- the bang made her jump and wiped all thoughts of saying something nasty to all of them. They all needed to grow up, she thought moodily. All they ever seemed to do was get upset about things. She hadn't had a temper tantrum in at least two years! And obviously none of them could tell what sarcasm, was, either, lord, they probably all thought she hated muggles or squibs or whatever they'd decided to puff themselves up about... The Slytherin girl was so busy sitting there stewing silently she didn't even pay attention to what the professor was saying until her surname was mentioned. She had a detention, and she couldn't say she was surprised. She hadn't been very respectful, after all. And she'd lost her house twenty points, with the other two girls, Camila and Gunilda. Not that she cared, she convinced herself. "Yes, sir." she said in her meekest voice, though the look in her eyes didn't look very ashamed or meek at all. She pulled out her textbook and slowly flipped through it until she reached the correct chapter. Pulling out her quill, she began to read and scribble, occasionally glaring up from under her lashes and bangs at the rest of the class. This was all their fault, of course.

YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME CRY.

You’ll never know what hit you...
Won’t see me closing in...
I’m gonna make you suffer...
This hell you put me in!
I’m underneath your skin...
The devil within...
I will be here;
When you think you’re all alone.

Mouth half open, about to realease a scathing insult at Camilla, that was when the teacher stepped in with a loud bang from his wand, and ordered that she Camilla and some other girl would see him on thursday night. Detention didn't surprise Gunilda, the term had been going along too peacefully of course, she had known something would give eventually. Brushing off Camilla's little rant, she simply snorted, tilted her chin and rolled her eyes before nodding at the teacher in acknowledgement and set to her work, apparently used to this sort of thing. That girl had deserved it, she thought as she took out her history book and began to work, fact opinion or not, the way she had spoken to the poor hufflepuff girl was bloody uncalled for. Did she regret ranting at Camilla? No. She couldn't stand people as insensitive as her- heck she may be in the same house as her, but if that girl had expected her to join in the laughter and stay quiet, she had been dead wrong. The only downside to this whole sitaution was that of course, she was one of the 'bad guys', of course she was. Oh well.

He walked up to the board and wrote the lesson's name quickly, then dusted his hands off and turned to face the class.

                                            Professor Powell
                                            The History of Brooms

"Hello, class. Today we will talking about the history of brooms. This might probably be a boring topic for you to learn about, but regardless, it is a part of wizarding history.

"Since no spell devised by wizards enable them to fly (with the exception of Lord Voldemort in 1997, and Severus Snape a year later), they had to come up with some other way to fly. Animagi who transformed into winged creatures enjoyed the sensation, but they were rare.

"Long before the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy came into force, wizards were savvy enough to realise that Muggle neighbours would seek to exploit their abilities. Therefore, if they were to keep a method of flight in their homes, it would have to be unobtrusive and easy to hide. The broomstick was ideal - portable, cheap, and it required no explanation. However, the first broomsticks were uncomfortable.

"Records show that witches and wizards in Europe were using brooms as early as A.D. 963. A German manuscript of this period shows three warlocks dismounting from their brooms with looks of exquisite discomfort on their faces. The first brooms bewitched were neither comfortable nor aerodynamic (they had rough twigs at the end and had unvarnished handles), and in 1107 Scottish wizard Guthrie Lochrin wrote of the "splinter-filled buttocks and bulging piles" after a short ride from Montrose to Arbroath. The charms on the broom were also basic; they would move at one speed, and only go up, down, and stop. Wizard families generally constructed their own brooms, so there was a variation in speed and comfort depending on the skill of the builder. By the twelfth century, wizards began to barter services, and a skilled broommaker could trade his services for the potions of a neighbour.

"Until the nineteenth century, broomsticks were of varying quality, although the invention of the Cushioning Charm in 1820 by Elliot Smethwyck greatly enhanced the quality and comfort of the rides. However, they were still handmade by single wizards, and they were generally incapable of achieving high speeds and were difficult to control at high altitudes. They were also designed with styling and craftsmanship in mind, and not performance. Brooms such as the Oakshaft 79, the Moontrimmer, and the Silver Arrow all made an impact on the broom market, but were still made by single wizards and witches.

"In 1926, the brothers Bob, Bill and Barnaby Ollerton formed the Cleansweep Broom Company, and the racing broom was born. Their first model, the Cleansweep One, was produced in large quantities and was an instant hit. Three years later, in 1929, Randolph Keitch and Basil Horton formed the Comet Trading Company and released the Comet 140 with a new Braking Charm. For several years, the Cleansweep-Comet rivalry dominated the field, until the creation of the Nimbus Racing Broom Company in 1967. The Nimbus brooms combined reliability and easy handling, and became a favourite for Quidditch teams across Europe. Universal Brooms Ltd was a broomstick manufacturing company which was very popular in the past, but shut down some time back due to heavy losses.

"At present, nearly every wizarding household in Britain owns at least one broomstick. Dedicated riders keep their brooms in top condition with a Broomstick Servicing Kit. Large groups of wizards and witches may travel by broomstick without being seen by Muggles through the use of a dose of the Disillusionment Charm. An earth-bound Muggle might then only see a slight shimmer in the night sky as broomstick riders pass overhead, which might be put down to blurred vision, sleepiness or a trick of the light.."
He looked about the class. "Now I know that some of you may have questions, so don't hesitate to ask. I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability."

Cathy had never returned to class the previous class and though she considered confronting her brother on the issue of him lying to her either at dinner or the next day she end up deciding not to. Instead, she was determined to act like it never happened, and held her typical happy smile after talking to Dani. She was so busy with trying to keep her composure and act unruffled about the situation she didn't realize until the weekend hit that she had forgotten to stop by Professor Powell's office to apologize and ask if she had missed anything in the class before. With a slight apologetic wince at the professor she sat down in the front row, quickly pulling out parchment and her quill.

Instead of saying anything, she listened as Professor Powell began the topic of the history of brooms. At least this wasn't an issue that seemed particularly charged. I mean what could negatively be said about brooms? Well, she was sure if someone worked hard enough it could be twisted around to something argumentative, but you'd have to work at it.

She quickly and quietly copied the notes on Professor Powell's lecture about brooms intrigued by the subject. She couldn't understand how her brother had such a hatred of flying, after the flying classes she had attended so far and the quidditch game she had attended. When Professor Powell asked for questions she took a deep breath and asked, "It seems the broom was while for some recreational purposes in their original creation were mostly for practical uses. When and how did the sport of quidditch evolve in conjuncture to the history of brooms? I mean they both should have interlinked histories, correct?"

She wasn't entirely sure if it was the best for her to ask questions considering how last class went, but she couldn't help but be curious. She loved history of all kinds and wanted to know as much as she could about anything. Perhaps it was one of the reasons she was so angry with her brother about lying about the blood status issue and that people still cared about such-including by the sounds of it her own family, who seemed to be on the 'bad side' of that whole issue, which is partially what end up upsetting her so much when she made the connections the week before, finally.

Ariana sat in class once again bored. She was never intrigued by this class...well, she had been before, but now it was all just getting boring. She wished they could do something other than just talk, but she wasn't one to confront anyone about it.

They were learning about the history of brooms today, something that she knew those in Quidditch may be more interested in than she. After all, Ariana was awful with brooms, so why would she care about their history? Either way, she listened carefully and took notes as usual. Once again Professor Powell asked if anyone had any questions, and once again Ariana stayed quiet. She had no questions, and quietly hoped that nothing like last class would happen...after all, they were talking about brooms this time, not something as controversial as blood status and muggleborns...

"Having fun,"

Gunilda arrived, and took a seat, not sure how to feel about ths lesson after how the last one had went. She took a few notes on the lesson at hand, brooms, before tilting her head and beginning to listen. She knew most of this of course, but she was bored, and maybe this lesson would prove somewhat interesting. The only brooms she had been allowed to use was her dad's old one and a school one, although she wanted to buy one of her own someday. A firebolt or nimbus sounded nice, although they cost a small fortune to get- but boy could those brooms move faster than any schoolbroom, especially the newer ones. Sleek, perfectly crafted, glossy with perfect straight twigs, what more could you want from a broom? That and they were handy if you wanted to travel a lot, as well as being great for quidditch.

As Cathy suggested, Dani didn't return to class after what took place, but she heard about what happened after they left. She had the feeling unpleasant words were circulated around the Common Room when a considerable sum of green gems were deducted from Slytherin House's hourglass, where House points were tracked. It also didn't really bother her they had to write an essay on the Chamber of Secrets in recompense for what took place. As she told Cathy down in the Courtyard 'some things are worth the risk of punishment'.

She was glad to see Cathy was there for the class, and gave her a smile and a wave when she walked into class. Before doing much else, Dani handed in the assignment Professor Powell required of them, producing an essay easily double what was requested. Dani found some materials on basilisks she found interesting (and disturbing) she thought were relevant to the assignment. After turning in her assignment, she took a seat next to Cathy's.

To say today's subject was interesting to her would have been understating things. Broomsticks were as interesting to her as the history of race cars would be to a fan of Formula One racing. For her, all of this was new and interesting, and she started taking notes as quickly as she was able to transcribe them onto parchment with her pen.

Dani knew she wanted a broomstick of her own, and her aunt's face went pale when she saw the sort of brooms she was interested in. She also knew she would need to practice her skills over the summer if she wanted a shot at being a starter on the Quidditch team next year. If individual wizards could make their own, maybe it wouldn't so tough to create her own.

Dani smiled when Cathy asked her question; it was gratifying to know her new friend had regained a measure of her self-confidence. Dani then posed her own question. "Professor, what sort of enchantments are used to create a broomstick, and how does somebody go about improving the performance an already existing one?"

                                                                    ════════════════════════
                                                                    OOC:

Eugene had arrived, just a few minutes late he suppose. He first apologized to the professor before he went to the nearest seat he could find, at least he was able to take some good notes. Unfortunately, he missed some notes while he was not around. 'Well, well, well... Looks like I had to ask someone now..." He frowned, he wasn't really good at this. Great, he had to think who would be in a decent mood to lend him some notes.

Camilla and Morven? Nope. He didn't think so, he was sure that they were mad at him because he snapped at them (Though he was pretty much ignored but still...). He was not sure about Cathy though, he felt bad because of last time. He gave up and just listened to some student's questions...

"Having fun,"

She quickly grew bored, scribbling down the odd note; she knew most of this already, her dad being a Quidditch enthusiast. Idly, she glanced around the room, spotting Eugene- she thought that was his name anyway -who she recognised from a herbology lesson they had shared slipping into class late. Odd, he was one of the clean cut students who was rarely late. After a few minutes of staring into the distance, bored, she noticed that Eugene hadn't written anything down. Again, it struck her as odd for his type before common sense kicked in and she realised that he hadn't been there to catch most of the needed info. Deciding that she had nothing better to do in this particular lesson, she caught his arm and slyly slid her own notes underneath his blank parchment, so the teacher wouldn't see; all he had to do was shift his parchment slightly and he would be able to sneak peaks at her notes underneath. Genius, Gunilda thought so herself, quickly slouching back in her seat and plucking from her back a spare piece of parchment, to make it look as though she was paying attention, although of course she was really just idling the lesson away.
