...... Do you know why my nickname is Lizz? It's because my name is Elizabeth. Watching that vid was very awkward.

............. -takes a DEEP breath-

ALRIGHT! Allow the creator to explain.

Nebula Conscripts was an idea I had many months ago. It basically came to me when I was browsing around Gaia and noticed a vehement lack of any kind of Sci-Fi RP's out there. This was also about the time that Mass Effect (the original) and EVE Online were hitting their highest popularity ratings. Combining those two franchises, I gave birth to a MASSIVE idea.

Basically I decided to create a world where the RP-ers would have near infinite creative control over the universe. The only real goal in NC is to get as many credits as your character could ever want. For some that might be never, for others that might be enough to retire on one of the several resort planets of the Solana sector. And others still, it might be just enough to exact their revenge on that one pirate that stole their livelihood, as well as the lives of their loved ones.

Basically the year is 3058, and it's a very interesting time. It's a time when technology and magic can basically intermingle with each other. Couple that with an entire universe to play with and I've basically given the players the power to create anything they wanted. Literally. Players can create races, planets, systems, casinos, businesses, cars, ships, materials, mech suits, weapons, spells, technology, creatures, anything their minds can think of (so long as it doesn't majorly mess up anything another player has made).

I actually put a LOT of effort into putting in a good ground work for the RP back in the day. It's kinda sad but I've let it stagnate lately simply because nobody seemed interested.

If anyone's interested in it just click the big-a** link in my sig. It'll take you right to it. Please, if nothing else, just browse it and tell me what you think. I'd appreciate it.

And if the guild banner looks familiar, it's because it's the failed sister guild to CSD.

Not as weird as what happened to me when I played Halo: Reach.

Everybody loved Jorge for some reason- hell, he's my favorite of all Noble team.

Now, imagine how weird it is when I'm playing online and my friends are all "Did you hear what happened to Jorge?"

My name is George. They're pronounced the same way. And at the time, I hadn't played the campaign all the way through.

-_-

@Kami- hell, I'll check it out.

See, the only problem with the RP you started is... it's TOO open-ended. With no clear story, where everyone can do whatever they want, people get side tracked, and quickly lose motivation to continue. People want direction, goals, and a clear-cut objective they should strive to complete, while still maintaining a sense of an open-ended world with free choices, like Oblivion or D&D to an extent.

*glares at Kami* You have the Overgrown Ruins item. Jealousy demands I hate you. Unless you are willing to part with it.

On the note of your idea, it runs into two issues. One, godmodding. Giving the players a Simesque omnipotent power like that just begs people to make supernukes the size of a pea undetectable by any known means to shoot out of a blunderbuss at enemies just because they can.

Second, think of scribblenauts. When a person has the ability to do -anything- they are overwhelmed and end up not knowing what to do. Without any sort of limitations or structure, the player cannot tell where he or she will go other than ending up with a world like the DC/Marvel universe where every third person has some wacky superpower put into the amalgam of Magic the Gathering and Ghost in the Shell. A bit overwhelming.

@Magni- -sweat drop- The ruins item was a nifty thing I happened across while browsing for wardrobe ideas. It was a hefty buy, and I apologize for any jealousy it causes. It was not my intent.

@Magni & Millenium- I appreciate both your inputs. And I do understand where you're coming from. I also am a dreaded hater of the infamous God-Modding. That's why I have a filter system for anything someone creates. Anything that a player wants to add to the NC universe has to go directly through me for it to be added. If later on it becomes popular enough I'll most likely elect some people to help me filter in the new additions. But I have final say of what gets added.

And as for the overwhelming-ness, that was partly my intent. I never wanted this RP to be for mild RPers. I wanted it to be for people who wanted a GIGANTIC sandbox to play in. People who would persevere through the intimidation and just run with it, allowing their creative juices to flow and ebb however they wanted.

I know that you did not intend to make me upset, thus my explanation other than "I hate you." I've been eyeing up one of those items for a long time now, but don't have the pure 1.5 mil to purchase it. Any high-priced items I could cough up may not sell due to the high asking price . . . and nobody seems willing to sell on the exchange when I try.

You failed to mention any willingness to sell. stare

@Magni & Millenium- Also, I failed to mention that there was a 'bit' of a story started to give the players some direction (and restraint).

See, the story revolves around piracy and shipping. The intergalactic shipping industry is the largest and most profitable industry in the universe. It's virtually controlled by the Big 3, 3 major corporations which have the most ships and trading routes in the universe. They are constantly battling with each other, other companies, the government, and of course pirates. Piracy is also at an all time high, giving players the opportunity to either play as a cutthroat or as a respectable sailor. Or play as an adventurer, exploring new worlds yet to be discovered. Or a casino manager, slowly filtering creds from luckless losers. Or anything they really want. The shipping industry was really just a guideline.

Also, with the shipping guideline, there was one other restriction I put into the universe. Since this is supposed to be a somewhat sailing/flying based RP, faster than light travel was a no go. It's basically a technology that doesn't exist yet. Players have to work around this as they create their characters and their worlds and go about their adventures. Trips can take months at a time, years even if they're going far enough away.

See, that's a VERY admirable goal, but there occurs several problems.

The primary one being- humans are stupid and weak.

When given too much control, they inevitably make mistakes, they do stupid things, and what was once an exercise in freedom and sandbox gameplay, becomes.... crap.

It's a wonderful idea.

But the problem with something that draws from something as massive and time-consuming as Mass Effect and something as open-ended and popular as EVE Online is that when people are given too much control, UNLESS THEY ARE GIVEN A CLEAR-CUT GOAL TO WORK TOWARDS, things inevitably collapse.

If I may say, try to restrict the game? See, I had an idea- YES, let the players do their thing to an extent. YES, let the world be free-form. But you see, when poeple have such a large world, it goes from Roleplaying to them writing a fiction piece about a character they made up. Unless they can interact with other players, people lose interest in what they did because a roleplay turns into a novel.

My point is this- give everyone something to do. Let them be free. Let them do what they want. But at one point, bring in some kind of catastrophe.

Like in Mass effect, when the Citadel was attacked. It wasn't just humans defending it- it was all races of the universe (Except the Reapers, collectors and rachni) coming together to defeat Saren and the Geth. Have a plot point in the story so that players can come togehter to defend their world or universe. And when they defeat it, give them respite, let them go back to their lives. In a while, say a few years in-game afterwords, have another cataclysm happen, once again reuiniting players and characters.

@Millenium- All very valid points. And ones that I've actually taken into consideration before. If you looked through the threads you mighta noticed a small thread called the Classifieds. That thread will probably be the backbone of any story ideas either myself or other players come up with. It's basically a job board, a quest giver if you will. I've already filled it with a few posts of my own, and a few of them lead into some extensive story ideas I concocted while possibly high on life and sugary cereal.

And I was also planning on a few large scale plot ideas later on in the story, as you mentioned. I made a large group of pirates and a giant conglomerate for a reason, after all. =3
