"It's not excitement." Jounouchi frowned, lowering his hand, "You just can never be too careful, even when jumping to assumptions, about this kind of stuff. I don't care how anti-superstitious you want to be; even you've gotta admit that we've experienced a hell of a lot more weird, magical stuff than most people. Yuugi's other self was even a ghost in a way, so there's no way I'd wanna take chances in denying the possibility when we've had multiple near-death experiences from supernatural stuff." he nodded firmly, secretly a bit proud at how well he had explained his logic to Kaiba.

Seto was tempted to pull apart all of Jounouchi's arguments, even though there were elements within that he did accept (even if he wouldn't admit it), such as Yuugi and his ghost-cheating sidekick (it was a lot easier to accept years of defeat if he considered the whole thing cheating, the fact that Yuugi had still beaten him several times on his own aside). He instead just let out another disgruntled sound, and debated between telling the blond to get out of his room or conjuring up some excuse to keep him around a bit longer, just in case 'ghosts' came back for him. On cue the door to his room slammed shut unprompted, and Seto was instantly assailed with the same eerie sense of dread that had overcome him a few nights ago when trapped inside of Kaiba Corp.

With a yelp, Jounouchi was immediately clinging onto Kaiba once the door had slammed shut, looking at it in alarm. His arms were wrapped around the other boy, the side of his face pressed against the guy's chest as he gaped at the now-closed door.

Seto's feeling of unease was immediately superseded by his displeasure at essentially being hugged, intimately. Refusing to look down at the clinging Jounouchi, Seto cleared his throat and said, "what do you think you are doing?"
He probably deserved a medal for not just punching the mutt clear across the room.

Jounouchi was quiet as his eyes slowly drifted over to the chest that his face was currently pressed against. He looked at it suspiciously, as if considering if it was really possible he had clung this close to Kaiba. And then suddenly it hit him that, yes, it was. With a look of disgust, he immediately pulled away again, nearly flying off the bed in his eagerness to escape the warm embrace of his so-called comrade.

Seto glared at the retreating Jounouchi, a bit of his venom waning as his current companion's visage coloured slightly. Smirking he got up and went to test the door. Unsurprisingly it was unalterably locked, the knob completely jammed. He wasn't sure he was up for breaking down a door at the moment, but lacking foreseeable alternatives he geared himself up to slam his weight against the door. A move he immediately regretted as his frail frame clearly wasn't up to this challenge, and the pain shooting through his arm was in no way tempered by the lack of visible give in the mystically sealed door.

"What the hell are you doing now Kaiba?!" Jounouchi asked in exasperation. He had been curiously watching the guy jiggle the door handle and regard the door itself, then jumped and groaned as the other decided to just ram his while body into the solid object. "Are you possessed or something now?! Get the hell back in bed!" he marched over to Kaiba, reaching out to grab his arm, prepared to drag the other back if he had to.

Seto wrenched his arm out of Jounouchi's reach and moved back toward the door, fiddling with the knob further. He glanced around the room looking for something small, sharp and pointed, "something to remove the latch," he murmured perceptibly but mostly to himself.
((Sorry so short and slightly directionless, but it's been bloody forever and you have been done with finals for a bit now so I do apologize. About to head out for a couple of hours but I am still jet-lagged so will probably crash as soon as I get back, so just wanted to make sure I at least hammered out something tonight. I'll try to be less fail next post. xd ))

"Is it really that stuck?" Jounouchi frowned, jiggling the door handle himself now. It was as if there was nothing to jiggle though, as if the handle was not even capable of turning. He wrenched onto it with both hands, seeing if he could force it past whatever was jamming it, but his hands just slid along the smooth metal as he tried to turn it.
"...alright, looking for something to remove the latch it is." he conceded, immediately running to the restroom to search the medicine cabinet for tweezers or something similar.
((It's cool. Go ahead and get plenty of rest. I've been pretty bleh all break, kind of sick of people and wary of any form of social interaction, so have been avoiding most guilds and such. Just get that way sometimes, part of being an introvert. So I apologize for that, as I probably ended up being the one keeping you waiting.))

Nice time to run to the toilet, Seto thought, walking over to his desk to retrieve a small toolkit he kept for simple fixes. He grabbed a couple of flat-head screwdrivers and headed back to the doorway in time to watch Jounouchi run out of the bathroom with what appeared to be tweezers. He raised an eyebrow as the blond paused, looking back and forth between Seto's own tools and the small implement he had been brandishing proudly in his right hand. Jounouchi grinned sheepishly, which had a surprisingly calming effect on Seto. Trying to ignore the pleasant warmth he tossed the handle end of one of the screwdrivers to Jounouchi before starting in on the top latch, leaving the bottom one for the somewhat shorter and less injured man to bend down to.
((I totally understand, no need to apologize. Up until I finally decided to do some decisive research today I myself was a bit wary about/sick of people - nothing extremely specific (despite what's written on my other post about you know who) just stress and not wanting to be around people while stressed. I've kept you waiting enough times myself that I'm fully ok when you need to do the same. I'm sure Kaiba and Jou will forgive us eventually too wink ))

Jounouchi didn't mind Kaiba's deus ex machina tool kit overtaking his well-thought-out tweezer solution (he had taught himself to undo screws with tweezers in the past, thank you very much); it was way more convenient this way, after all. So he caught the screwdriver, kneeling down under Kaiba and quickly getting to work on the bottom latch. "So, I still totally think it's a ghost holding the door shut, but I'm gonna pretend I'm too logical for that like you right now so I don't freak out about removing the door when something could pop out and kill us right behind it." he rambled, for some reason suddenly in a good mood, regardless of their situation. Maybe it was just how he and Kaiba were working together on something without arguing, agreeing on a solution for once. It was just like he could feel Kaiba calming for some reason, like he could sense it, and as humans are apt to do, his mood changed to reflect the other person's in the room.
((Funny how that kind of stuff can happen. For me I think it's mostly I'm sick of people I see too often; my mom's been driving me crazy lately, my dad always wakes me up (he seems to do everything loudly), some friends are just really doing unthoughtful things lately, and I know it just makes me more bitter and selfish, so I end up making things worse for everyone. And I guess because all of that ended up happening, plus school is starting three weeks earlier than it ever has before (as in this Thursday), I'm just really disappointed with my winter break, and don't feel I got a proper rest at all. I don't feel at all like I am mentally capable of going back to school yet, but at least it's the last semester, and it's only 13 credits. Haha, and Kaiba and Jounouchi can get over Jounouchi holding onto Kaiba for weeks on end. XD))

The pair worked in amicable silence. Seto had undone three of his five screws and Jounouchi two when the calm was suddenly interrupted. Jounouchi's screwdriver literally flew out of his hand and smashed through the glass window out onto the lawn 3 stories below. Even more strangely, the metal end of Seto's own screwdriver swiftly began to melt, leaving him holding nothing more than a plastic handle within seconds and starring in horror at the silver puddle on the floor inches away from Jounouchi's crouched form.
"What the hell," Seto started, before suddenly the room began to shake and items began to crash to the floor. Seto grabbed Jounouchi's collar and hauled him backwards seconds before a heavy wooden box would have collided with his head. Without another moment's pause Seto dragged himself and Jounouchi underneath the massive king size bed as books and other personal items flew about the room.
((I definitely understand how you feel, the older you get the more irritating living with family can be. Sucks that vacation is ending so soon though, even quarter system schools here aren't starting until the 9th, the semester ones still have a much longer break left. At least you are almost done though, so I guess think of it as closer to over. Glad the workload isn't too heavy for the final term. I definitely don't mind Jounouchi holding onto Kaiba. razz
Also I'm really not paying attention to house dimensions (such as number of floors) so forgive me if I ever end up contradicting myself.))

Jounouchi made it under the bed with Kaiba, watching in horror as the room continued going insane on them. "Yeah tell me now you're not being haunted!!" he shouted after a moment of finding his voice, "I dare you!" he was latching onto any form of anger he could to avoid panicking. Falling objects, yeah, that was scary and all because it could kill you, but he could handle that. But falling objects from some kind of supernatural force? Hell no. No ******** way. Jounouchi could not keep his wits about him with something like that going on.
((Yeah, I definitely feel ready to move out, but obviously need to finish school, and not really financially independent at the moment. I hope I can get a better, more stable job once I graduate. And everyone's really mad that they suddenly shortened our break so much; they did it to avoid three weeks of going to school when it's really hot (April is only mildly hotter than hell; May is when shoes start to melt off), so it makes sense, but there was no announcement a year or at least semester in advance, there was not preparation time. There wasn't even an announcement to students at all; they literally just put it on the calendar halfway through the fall semester and hoped people noticed. And you know, were willing to cancel their out-of-country winter trips and all that. I'm mostly pissed that I didn't get a summer break at all, and then suddenly only got a tiny winter break. I haven't even recovered from my junior year yet.
Oh, and that's cool. Doubt I'd notice any contradictions anyway.))

"Hey, even if it is something supernatural - and it may very well just be some sort of earthquake - you don't know that it's even ghosts. It could be any sort of malevolent spirit, monster, etc. And who says I'm the one being haunted, maybe it's you're a** the - whatever this is is after! " Seto yelled back, realizing that was hardly helpful at the present time but unable to help himself.
((Yea, well hopefully you'll be able to get out soon. No matter what after I finish my PhD I'm not moving back in with my family. I'll live in a box, but I need to be on my own. And that does really suck that you weren't even given notice about the break. I guess you'll be happy to be done come April then, but they really should have given you a decent break.))

"Okay, one: This is not an earthquake! Okay, well maybe this is, but your screwdriver melting and mine flying out of my hand and your door being sealed shut and you being strangled was not! Two: I don't care if it's a ghost or not, because whatever it is it's creepy and it's trying to kill us and that's close enough to a ghost for me! And three, it's in your room and tried to strange your neck! It's haunting you!" Jounouchi argued in return, shouting in order to be heard above the crashing objects.
((Yeah, I think most people just need to get out of the nest by the time they're around our ages. And I will be happy come April, but right now? Hell no. It's also intersecting right during a convention I'm going to this weekend, ffffffh.))
