She sat in the back and dropped her head low, letting the others answer. Of course, they were all things she'd say, but her voice was far away from her at this point. She watched the Professor. He seemed like the nice sort of guy. Glancing around the classroom, she expected many of the students here wouldn't exactly like this class. But she knew she would. She took out parchment and a quill, wondering if they'd be getting any notes today. {συт σf ¢нαяα¢тєя: Open for interaction}

Location: History (Monday 1:00pm - 2:00pm) Grace was excited for history and everyone probably could see it. Honestly it was the one class just about ever Ravenclaw should look forward to right? Well maybe that was a little stereotypical but that's how Grace felt. She loved history and really any subject with a book that needed to be read. Luckily her and Dakota were like that which worked well when they were both in the same house and only a year apart. Surprisingly enough her professor was Joel's cousin. 'So that's what they were going on about before the sorting...' Grace thought with a smile. Shaking her head Grace listened to the answers circling around. She remained quiet despite wanting to say something. There was nothing really to add anyways she'd just be repeating what had already been said. Status: Happy and Interested With: Class... Grayson walked into the classroom, eyes examining the room as he steps up to the board to write something in large letters before placing the chalk down and standing before the class.
"Hello class, and welcome back. Today, we're going to go over the history of Hogwarts."
"Hogwarts was founded in the ninth to tenth century by its founders, Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. They came together to build the school due to increased suspicion of muggles and magic, and wanted to teach students without fear of prosecution. However, not all of them agreed on which students should be accepted into the school. Salazar Slytherin wanted to only admit purebloods, which was at odds with the other founders. He left the school, and never returned.
"Hogwarts was one of the finest institutes for magical learning by the thirteenth century, and together with Durmstrang and Beauxbatons, started the Triwizard Tournament. However, due to injuries and deaths resulting from the tournament, it was disbanded six centuries after it started. There have been many attempts to reinstate it, but none have been successful.
"More recently, the school has been the site for many different incidents in the last century. It was here that Voldemort learned his magic, and here that Harry Potter defeated him in the Battle for Hogwarts. It has also been the site for the most recent attempt for the Triwizard Tournament, and obviously remains a major school for magic today."
He looked about the class. "Now I know that some of you may have questions, so don't hesitate to ask. I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability."

XXXXXXXXHarper practically skipped into the History of Magic classroom, she loved this class already and it already happened to just be a good day. She listened closely to Professor Powell. As soon as he began to lecture she found herself lost in his words. It was like she could imagine herself there at the beginning of Hogwarts, seeing it all. That was part of why she loved history so much, it taught you about how other's lives were at some point in time. It was wonderfully fascinating. She filled her mind with the words the teacher spoke, filing them into her memory. She was about to raise her hand to ask a question about the founders when another student raised her hand and asked her own question. Harper crinkled her nose at the words that were spoken. It was a good question but not one she'd every thought to have explained to her. It sufficed to know that he'd been bad man. A supremacist. Though before the question even had a chance to be answered another voice rose from the classroom. A boy named Devonte is he wasn't mistaken, from the Slytherin house. As he said the words Harper's blood began to boil and her chest tightened. "Excuse me?" Harper said suddenly, not even meaning to speak but she couldn't keep it in. "That state of someone's blood or genetics makes no difference to their skill and nothing, nothing, gives you the right to judge someone based on that. Salazar Slytherin shouldn't have been allowed in this school in the first place if that was the attitude he had. My father is a muggle and he is one of the most talented and gentle people I have known so if you value your reputation I would suggest you don't speak about things you nothing about." Harper didn't know what had come over her but she wanted to shove this little jerk into the Womping Willow and see how he took it.

Selina arched an eyebrow when one of the Bannister brothers chose to challenge her. She would have expected it from Strudwick, however, since she was questioning the validity of their founder's choice in inheritors it made sense one of the Slytherin members would rise to his defense.
"Probably because purity of blood, if there truly is such a thing at this point, is no guarantor of talent, skill or desire, but merely a higher than average probability certain characteristics are carried forward," in her calm, whispery tones. "As to what the school would look like, I should think it would be rather sparsely populated by this point. Having the same families interbreed with only each other for over a thousand years would mean each generation having decreasingly viable offspring."

First Year ║ Eleven Years Old ║ Slytherin ║ Pureblood ║ Single ║ Chaser Devonte raised an eyebrow as another girl spoke up, a Hufflepuff, he presumed, in response to his answer. He had no idea why he hadn't been expecting it. Most students in the school had such thin skin, and could be offended at even the slightest word. He shook his head, and couldn't help but laugh at her words. Unlike others, though, he refused to back down just like that, like in all those movies where the unlikable character always wimps out when challenged. "I never said anything about talent and skill in regards to blood; I only stated about the reputation of purebloods. I'd rather not have my words twisted into something completely different, thank you. And I do know at least a little bit about this subject. Just because you disagree with me doesn't mean you can argue that fact. As for your father, again, I was talking about blood, and, frankly, I don't really care how talented and gentle he may be. One last thing. It's quite rude to interrupt other's conversations."
He refused to be made a fool of, and needed to have the last word. Some would call that a flaw, he saw it as a strength.OOC: (Oh man, getting intense in here.)

Oh, my dear, where have you been? So near, so far, so in-between... What have you heard? What have you seen? Oh, tell us, are you big or small? To try this one or try them all? It's such a long, long way to fall... How can you know this way not that? You choose the door, you choose the path! Perhaps you should be coming back- Another day, another day! And nothing is quite what it seems. V I O L A N T E F A Y E L I L L A N T I N E Slytherin │ First Year │ Pureblood │ Adopted
Vio couldn't help herself. She just couldn't. She wasn't surprised Devonte was the first to get into it with Selina. He'd made his opinion on non purebloods fairly obvious from the welcoming feat alone. She knew she was probably supposed to dislike the boy- he was bigoted, after all, and she knew that was wrong. But she had the feeling she wasn't going to get very far in Slytherin if she played the 'oh, you're not a nice person, I just won't interact with you' card every time she disagreed with one of her housemates. Maybe that would work in other houses, she wasn't sure. But not Slytherin. Devonte ruined himself by letting his own view slip into his argument at the last moment. Harper was obviously on the defensive because her father was a muggle. Selina was perched up on high looking down on them all with one raised eyebrow. That was the impression Violante got of her classmates, anyways. "In defense of my house," she said mildly, "Salazar also prized ambition, cunning, and resourcefulness, all of which can be respectable traits, especially in students. Yes. He might very well be twitching underground in outrage at this very moment due to the current amount of non-purebloods in this school. Considering the time period, I highly doubt his views were all that rare, but he was certainly vocal about them. That's not an excuse for him having them, it's just a fact," she continued calmly, before her voice took on a slightly sardonic edge. "Perhaps the professor should be allowed to have the floor right now, as this is his class." She could have reminded them all that Merlin had been a Slytherin, but everyone was probably sick of that fact being thrown out like confetti every time someone insulted Slytherin house. They were all being silly, she thought. The professor hadn't even been given a chance to answer the question before they all chimed in desperate to prove their point. Oh, how will you find your way? No time for tears today! So many doors, how did you choose? So much to gain, so much to lose... So many things got in your way... No time today, no time today! Be careful not to lose your head; Remember what the Dormouse said! Did someone pull you by the hand? How many miles to Wonderland? Please tell us so we'll understand....

"You asked questions of me, and I attempted to answer them, there's no need to get angry. After all, this is only an academic discussion, and not worthy of personal animus," replied Selina calmly. "However, the initial question has yet to be answered. Godric Gryffindor sought out those brave of heart, Helga Hufflepuff looked toward those whom toiled the most, and Rowena Ravenclaw claimed those whom she thought were the most nimble of mind. In this context, is it not odd that Salazar Slytherin was only interested in those whose bloodline he believed measured up to his standards of excellence?"

Leaning back in his seat, Dante had a sudden urge to conjure up a bowl of popcorn as the discussions began to roll out in class. What was first year without a few debates here and there about blood status? It was something his siblings, or at least those that attended Hogwarts, had warned him about. The Bianchi family was that of a pureblooded one in the Wizarding Community, though given the nature of this discussion it seemed in his best interest not to chime in. Besides, he had nothing to prove, nor did he feel any compelling case towards either side of the debates. At a loss for what to do, the first year shifted awkwardly in his seat, and instead of participating in the conversation the boy stuck his quill into his mouth in a horizontal fashion, gnawing on the spine as he waited for either the discussion to die down, for the Professor himself to answer the question that was addressed to him in the first place, or for the topic itself to change entirely.

First Year ║ Eleven Years Old ║ Slytherin ║ Pureblood ║ Single ║ Chaser He knew his views would be met with hostility and anger, and he was quite ready for that, although Harper seemed to be the only one who actually seemed to attack him, in a sense. Selina seemed to mistake his words with anger, though, which he found to be quite interesting. Devonte may have been a cold and selfish person, but he wasn't an angry one.
"On the contrary. I was just stating my opinion on the matter at hand, there was no anger involved in my words. The only one who seems entirely angry here is Ms. Harper here, though with that sort of anger I'd expect her to be in Gryffindor, as opposed to Hufflepuff. I'm sure The Sorting Hat had a reason, though, so I digress. And yes, I believe Professor Powell has stated what you have just said." At some point Violante had jumped in, and although she wasn't quite coming to his defense, he was glad that she actually had something useful to contribute to the conversation. OOC:

"The Hat is a sentient construct in its own right, and it seems able to see qualities in us we may not even be aware of ourselves," replied Selina. I guess what I'm interested in is Salazar Slytherin's original intent, as opposed to what his inheritors have vested in it."

Addie woke with a start as the voices rose in the classroom. She glanced around in confusion trying to place where she was. She must've fallen asleep again. It's not like she was trying to sleep but History was just so boring. She noticed the arguing students first and she wondered what they were going on about. It looked like the Slytherin boy and that know it all Ravenclaw were having an argument. Addie shook her head in disbelief; that Ravenclaw was nothing but trouble. The brunette noticed a fellow Gryffndor boy sitting near her. She leaned over to ask him what she missed. "What is happening? Did I miss something?"
