I can not stand rap. I will listen to anything but wrap. Personally the Power Classics are my favorites. They fit my personality. Anything with emotion appeals to me. I just wish that people would understand that music is a way of expressing them selves and to listen to what the composser is convaying to you about there emotion.

Classical music isn't appreciated anymore because the main stream media has lowered it's standards to please the simple minds of today's youth. It seems that today's teenagers are only entertained by uneducated profane monkeys who are manipulated by their record companies or baby faced sluts who sell their bodies through music videos on MTV.
Me being a junior in highschool, i have seen how stupid and unappreciative of Real music teenagers are oblivious of now a days...
Just the other day i was listening to Bach's Three violin Concerto (specifically Bwv 1041) a little too loud during class so my teacher told me to turn it down, and i did...but as i turned it down everyone looked at me and i got all these comments on why i was listening to that "s**t" (which is what they called bach which really set me off) and as i was about to make a reply people were telling me that i should listen to good music like Lil' wayne...i simply just gave them the good ol' Bird and turned around...

I think part of it is the 'cool' factor that classical music lacks in the younger generation's eyes. Kids nowadays [and I'm sorry for using that phrase even though I'm only 21] are SO exposed to sex, and I guess classical music doesn't include slutty girls dancing on stage or explicit lyrics about 'bitches and hoes', and its not interesting because of it. I will admit that in high school if someone asked me what I liked to listen to I'd just name some popular artists just to get the conversation away from me..when on my mp3 player I'd have Rachmaninov and Elgar. It just wasn't "cool" to listen to classical music, and I hated to have to hide the fact that I liked it. Of course, by my junior and senior year I didn't really give a damn what people thought I liked and carried my violin case on my shoulder through the crowded hallways and glared at people who huffed at me, but I guess it really boils down to is how your peers perceive you. If you're surrounded by other classical music fans, you're less likely to be made fun of for NOT liking the popular sluts and whores groups, and if you're surrounded by the more hostile groups who look down on proper taste, you're more likely to say you don't like classical music when you really do. ..was that extremely confusing to follow???? sweatdrop

I love Classical Music, but disowning rap will do no good in making people understand classical music any better because it's not rap that people hate, it's the words that others use in rap. Some rap is really good. Rap is basically poetry. Getting hatred out with rhymes and rythm. Although some rap is xp , lil Waynes Lolipop for example is just burning_eyes horrible.

Septomor Next time you should get Havergal Brian's first symphony (supposudley the longest symphony ever) and see if he still waits outside. xd Anyways, people just need to adjust to it. I absolutly couldn't care 4 years ago what Beethoven composed. But now I've heard ever single piece by him XD I think you should start with neo-classical music, it works on my parents. lol rofl great idea! it's so annoying they only like those really popular ones if they like it at all! those people probably arent muscians playing comtemporary music is such a pain since it usually sounds so .... Ugh xp

You're my hero heart trivia: did you know? serious muscians One that took private lesson or the ones that were just motivated to learn an instrument by them selves for fun generally scored 5 to 10% better on tests than their rock loving classmates! same applies to those who listen to classical music at least 3 times a wekk or so

I think that people now try to just feel. They want to feel in their language and they want beats they can groove to. I don't feel the same sentiment as these people, but I do somewhat understand it. I had a hard time when I first started classical vocal music becuase it was so foreign and I could identify with it at first.

nechuroo It's because: Classical music = fine dining Popular music = McDonald's Wow, that and everything you've said was exactly the way my music history teacher described it xD I think people in this day and age are just WAY too rushed and focused in on their own lives to listen to the 'complexity of beautiful music' maybe some people just need to be taught, maybe there are many people who don't even know that they would even like classical music!

I didn't appreciate classical music till i joined an orchestra for about 3 years. After that i loved it, but i still can't listen to it in huge blocks. I like one classical movement every 3-4 songs of other genres. That way i appreciate it more. Plus i have a tendancy to listen to stuff i've already played. Just becuase i understand it more.

I Cosmo I i think people dont like classical music because they werent around it when they were little, they were raised listening to modern music, i was raised listening to 'The Classical Child' and i also when to a catholic church which means i had listened to classical hymns alot. its hard to change someones like of music .-. I'm the flip side, classical or country music was all we could listen too, and I grew to hate both intensely. Mum would explain that we needed to learn to "appreciate" the different types of music, but wouldn't let us listen to other types... we weren't Catholic, but we did go to church, and my mom played hymns and ragtime on the piano. Funny thing about hymns, many are written in waltz time. On occasion she would get tickets to see the Nutcracker, which I loved, but it was the only time I enjoyed the music. It wasn't until many years later, perhaps thanks to Queen and Transiberian Orchestra, that I came to want to here classical music as it was meant to be. I can definitely now "appreciate" almost all types of music... except RAP... I do appreciate the ability to rhyme to a beat, but the language and violence and disrespect for other human beings... argh...
