Personality

Darkrime is a high functioning sociopath -- not quite able to wrap his head around normal emotions or to behave the way he should. Instead he mimics other kin and sometimes completely fails to pull off acting the way a real Kimeti should. He gets help from his daughter, Rhyme and Reason.

The sun tips in the sky, floating in a sea of blue, and all at once looses its hold. It sinks, it tumbles, it falls and it crashes, leaving the world suddenly in the darkest of nights.

Personality

Sudden Fall likes the night -- likes to dance, likes fires and salamanders and good times, much like his father. He is mostly noturnal, sleeping late into the day and rushing through the night, a shadow in the dark. He likes other kin, too, meeting others and learning about them.

As it begins, they are together: a family, clustered in one small corner of one small section of one small part of the swamp. They all know each others' names, stories; they all share their food and shelter; they all recognize every face they see.

The tempest sweeps through with a fury, a great wave that overwhelms them, that doesn't quite drown them, that covers their eyes and dulls the sound of distant cries. In one fell swoop, they are deposited like so much silt all over the swamp -- and all at once, they are strangers.

Personality

Silt is a wanderer, a drifter with no home and no real goal. He pokes around the swamp and goes where life takes him. He likes to learn new things and leave charms and memories behind, wherever he ends up.

The water laps at his ankles: cool, it drags his fur in its wake, tugs at his legs, not quite strong enough to set him off balance. It is a pleasant sensation at first, an idle caress, comforting, slowly creeping from his ankles up to his knees as the moon pulls the water out, as he loses time.

Hours pass. The waves tickle against the underside of his belly and he closes his eyes, an image of the moon still standing out starkly against the insides of his eyelids.

Hours pass. Inch by inch, his shoulder scale is overtaken, submerged, the water high enough to take away the weight of the day and make him feel light. Free.

Hours pass. His throat is wet, the highest points of the waves working their way up to tickle against his chin, to smooth across his cheek like a kiss.

It is down to the end. He cracks his eyes a sliver, just in time to see the tide overcome him and draw him under.

Personality

Highwater is a proper gentleman, well-spoken and courteous almost to a fault. It's possible his treatment of females could be considered a kind of sexism, though that's not his intent. He just believes in treating people well, especially does, and helping them out when he can.

Not only is Stilled Heart cold, but she's proud of being cold, considers her detachment from the world to be a strength in her personality. Let other kin be friendly, warm and cheerful. She will watch, dispassionate and cool.

It is there, every time he dreams, and he knows what will come: a high point, an outcrop of rocks, the perfect hiding place and the perfect ambush point. Every time he approaches it from a different angle, plots his attack differently. Every time he is as quiet as can be, creeping slowly, feet silent against stone. And every time they are ready for him, waiting in the shadows, leaping out of hiding to strike him down with claws and teeth and leave him gasping away his last bloodied breath.

Personality

Outcrop is a hunter through and through, sharp-eyed and athletic and more than willing to take life when he needs to. He is fierce, with little sympathy for the weak, and little empathy with anyone at all.

The dance begins slowly; a stomp of one foot, a stomp of another. It is a steady rhythm, strong and even, interrupted only by the huff of his breath as his muscles bunch and he prepares the next move. Gradually, its pace increases. Between the core stomps come staccato tap-tap-taps, and he is no longer standing still between beats. Instead he turns and twists, hops and shifts, faster and faster to not only keep his pace but add to it. There is still a song is the sounds his hooves make against the beaten earth, a story that he is telling through the combined noise and motion, the toss of his head and the crash of foot against earth.

His pace increases again, his muscles beginning to burn now, and he realizes he can't stop.
He is a blur, he is out of control, and as the dance rises to a fever pitch, he is consumed by fire.

Personality

Fever Pitch is a dancer, a wild thing, who does everything too fast and too enthusiastically before crashing and burning. He doesn't know how to turn down the fire, and how to slow down enough to relate well with others. His eyes are, perhaps, a bit crazed.

The world around her is thoroughly fascinating to Out of Scale -- a strange place she doesn't quite understand. Part of this is a child-like wonder, and part of it is just that she's child-like. A bit dumb. Not all there.

A tournament, a butting of horns, and two times out of three, this Totoma found himself at the bottom of the listings. As each battle came to an end, he found himself wobbling and failing, his resolve giving way. Finally, in the last moments before the winner could be called, he stepped forward and ground his teeth, calling for a final battle: All or Nothing.

Perhaps it was the added pressure, the fact that this was his last chance, but in desperation, he finally was able to hold his own.

Personality

All or Nothing puts every ounce of his energy into everything he does. He's not the best -- not at anything, not really -- but he's hard-working and strong and won't let genetics or anything else hold him back. He struggles to improve himself enough that he matches up with what other kin can do.

They speak to her, as she sleeps, in her dreams: they dance around her, offering reassurance and compliments, offering fear and insults. She cannot see them as anything but ghostly shapes, and they are her siblings, so she must be a ghost as well.

Personality

Ghost speaks somewhat in circles, and sometimes to things that aren't really there. This is largely because the lids that close over her eyes are thin, and the light of the swamp turns everything around her into a potential friend, a potential creature. She is social and friendly but weird enough to drive kin off.

Her flank bumps up against a tree, and there is fire.

Her tail lashes to the left, and there is fire.

Personality

Firestarter's blaze of personality isn't one that destroys, but more one that creates -- vibrant, bright, cheerful, enthusiastic, passionate. She has an energy that she tries to push into other people, struggling to get other people going as well.

It sits beneath the surface of the water, and only beneath the surface of the water does its beauty really shine through. Here, the light is filtered through it at oblique angles, ripples over its surface -- and as it does, it shows a hundred different colors, lighting up the river around it, turning a simple stone into a gem.

Personality

Gem's life is a wild frenzy of action -- of eating too much, of drinking too much, of singing and dancing and meeting other kin. She doesn't like to stay in one place or do one thing, and she's supremely self-confident, even about things she's terrible at.

Smooth rock sits, half-hidden by the rush of water.
Decades carve ruts into its surface, and slowly,
as the swamp shifts and changes around it,
it takes on a solid shape.

It mimic the curves and arches,
the points and lines of a seated kimeti,
flat eyes staring, unmoving, unblinking,
out at the world around it.

Personality

Staring Stone's features are exceptionally strong, exceptionally pretty: long and lean and elegant. She's not terribly thoughtful, not terribly bright, but she is good natured if not friendly and bubbly. She's vacant.
