I think a cutscene would have been good enough to get the point across. Having the player butcher those people wasn't totally necessary.
I don't think that would get the same point across, but I know what you're saying. There are plenty of innocent civilians killed in cutscenes. When you're playing, it gets real.

I see where you're coming from, Kegan, but concentration camps are on a WHOLE other level of ******** up. You can see the airport slaughter on any tv set if you're turned to a news channel. Concentration camps can be seen on History channel like Cattra said, but this isn't the same as having a minigame based around human leather.

If this level is a mood piece, WWII never needed one. This game is purely made of fictional events. Although they ARE related to events taking place in the world now or in the past, I don't think it's the same to call the holocaust into this.

Also, why does everyone bring up the holocaust first thing? ******** class="clear">

Because it was one of humanities darkest moments thats closest and still felt, thats why.
also do we not consider that not all the Nazi's were evil, they tried to kill hitler multiple times and many were forced and did not agree, just because one man did something wrong and others followed in doing something terrible for what he claimed was the greater good (this one is more directed at the all nazi's were evil comment from earlier)

You can see worse then this, hell documentries show worse then this. I agree going into Ghettos and playing mini-games about jew pizza's is wrong but seriously, why would ANYONE even cross THAT line now?

Actually now that I think about it, I'd prefer if they had this whole level through the eyes of a civilian. If you were put in the shoes of a civilian in that airport as this s**t was going down and you had to keep running... man that would be intense. I think it'd get the point across too.

Hmmm, yes and no. It would be too much like Mirror's Edge, I think, especially since we're appealing to the FPS audience here. And this IS an fps. I think the civilian would give a different view that IS powerful, but not the same.

Would be like playing as the russian in coD1 though, it would be interesting.

I wouldn't want to play a game with more than one level like this.
While bad a**, it'd get boring.

You guys don't want to play this game, that's fine. This is not something that Infinity Ward developed to make it appear as if they condone the brutal, senseless murders of the innocent. No, they're using it to set the mood for the game. You're going to be going after this guy, who would mercilessly open fire in an airport full of people with no remorse. That's the point of this game; not the terrorist level.

Anyway, I'm just trying to point out that this isn't something that should be called out. Maybe called to attention as a great medium to display and show what kind of brutal things happen in the world. But Infinity Ward shouldn't take any kind of hit for this at all.
I completely agree that Infinity Ward shouldn't take any hit for this at all, actually.
It's a great way to set the mood and stuff, but I think they way it's done is just too.. wow.
But that might be just me. Cause a big majority, at least of the people I know, who mainly play FPS games are not the brightest bunch, and aren't gonna think about it as deeply as just setting up a mood for a game.

Yeah dude, it's so deep.

It's not like they explain it at the end in plain English or anything.

Sorry, but I thought that was kinda funny. But at the same time kind of distasteful. But I suppose it's designed to make you feel that way. Infinity Ward, I applaud you for having the balls to do something like this. You'll give people even more of a wake-up call on the horrors of war and mass killing in the name of conflicting governments, religions, and terrible hypocrisies that plague our world today.

This is going to open my eyes even more than the Shock and Awe part of Modern Warfare 1.

I don't know how long it's going to take media sources to b***h, but I know it's going to be pretty fast!

I see where he's coming from. I laugh when I see innocent bystanders get mowed down with a machine gun all the time!
