Barth had underestimated the amount of time it would take to get to class. He was very good at doing so, because he had a lot of practice. It was one of the many skillsets he had been endowed with as a Sloth demon.

He oozed in with enough time to hear...err, something about spells. There was also a bat flying around and students...engaged in a rap contest? No, something to do with the assignment. Taking an educated guess from the course title, Curses, Hexes, and Spells, he assumed they were attempting one of the three, and sneaked a leisurely peek at the spells Carthusia had scribbled down.

Glorious Ooze Assault and Massive Gyser of Muck sounded...less like the Pride demon and more like him. Carthusia's sounded a little...overwrought, though. Simpler was better. And usually less effort.

He decided to give his own newly-patented and less complex Ooze Walls a shot.

(( Ahaha Toshi I love you. <3 ))

Carry turned to look over her shoulder and noticed someone else... was that... Sloth? It was! No, pay attention to what you're doing! He can copy all he wanted, because if he copied, then that meant her spells were worth copying! Right? She plastered her face with the most determined look she could muster and focused on the task at had - impress the teacher! The teacher was a reaper, and the more powerful the reaper, the better. It would make Carry look even better if she could do well in this class.

Sloth wasn't a bad guy, though, just... less enthused than a great many other demons she'd known or read about. "Which one are you trying?" she asked.

Lucien tried to follow along as best as the air spirit could, but he was still rather distracted by the young ghoul with the scroll on her face who he had been having a conversation with prior. Although he hadn't said anything, while the professor was talking, Lucien had still been staring at the scroll on her face. Perpetually telling himself not to, and then ending up staring at her chest instead. He finally managed to snap out of it and he started to make a list of spell names... anything to get him away from what he was staring at. He was still a little embarrassed that he had said that to the poor ghoul and since she hadn't said anything back he felt worse. He buried his face into the paper and begun to write down the first things that came to mind.

Quote:
Absorbs Venom
Animate Orb of Opposition
Goblins' Chamber of Nothing
Hex of Negate Lifedraining
Serpent's Sadism
Slay Wise Demons
Slayers' Gloves of Metal
Spell of Silver Transformation
The Helmet of Time
Wind Control

It had taken him quite awhile to write all of the names down and he was delighted when he finally finished. But it seemed that wasn't all he had to do and he pouted just a little. He looked at the names and it didn't take him long to figure out which one to use. In this situation, last was best. It was only best because of it had the words wind and control in it, and Lucien liked both of those. Greatly. Of course, trying to figure out a spell for it was the harder part. He was worried he'd make something too simple, not really realizing simple was probably best.

He begun to write down a spell.

Quote:
Step 1: Hold hand out like grasping thread.
Step 2: Concentrate.
Step 3: Concentrate.
Step 4: Say spell.

Wind follows how,
The gesture flows.
Wind control now,
Listen wind blows.

Step 5: Move hands in a fluid motion.

Wind will move following your hand gesture.

It seemed okay to the air spirit. He read over it a bit before getting distracted as he watched the other students do their own spells.

Lucien finally pulled himself away from watching the other students so he could try his own spell. Floating above his chair just a little, the air spirit looked around the room. He didn't pick a specific subject, but he gently held his arm out in front of him, lingering it in the air. His fingers twisted around the emptiness of the air as he whispered.

Wind follows how,
The gesture flows.
Wind control now,
Listen wind blows.

After whispering, the air spirit gently moved his arm around in a fluid motion.

Creating your own spell! Now that's something that sounded fun. Creativity had always been a stronger suite for her so she was excited to try to come up with their own incantations. Eager to begin, Alcyone began scribbling down a bunch of different names that first popped into her head. Of course there were a bunch of relatively silly things that had somehow made sense in her head but when she wrote it out and reread it, they sounded ridiculous. Though they all sounded like they could be potentially interesting but she wanted one that stood out as creative and something that she could create some sort of rhyme scheme for. Poetry wasn't exactly something Alcie was familiar with but she would pull from her knowledge and try her best.

Quote:
Alter Light
Casting of Generosity
Curse of Drunkenness
Green Balls of Everburning
Human's Shiv of Fire
Prismatic Lances
Ruby Circle
Savage Sludge Blasts
The Knife of Intoxication
The Trap of Health

After she finished listing out possibilities, the water demon tried to pick one of the names. What was she even thinking when she wrote down green balls of everburning? That sounded... terrible. She considered a few other of the spells but then came across Curse of drunkenness... For some reason she couldn't help but think about the raid on Christmas town. Chuckling to herself and grinning, Alcie began to scribble down a spell.

Quote:
Curse of drunkenness - A spell that will allow the caster to disorient their opponent by cursing them with drunkenness. Hand gestures aren't too important but the caster should be indicating the person that they are trying to curse. The curse only requires the incantation and hand gestures toward the one to be cursed.

Incantation:
Without a single drink,
You find yourself without the ability to think.
Let this curse take you away,
You will begin to sway.
Feel the intoxication,
Test the temptation,
And feel the departure of inhibition.

It wasn't super impressive but Alcie was happy with her incantation. Seeming to be a little silly, she tried to fix it up to make it at least sound... educated but how well could that work with a spell about drunkenness.

Getting up, Alcie glanced at her sheet of paper once again and tried to concentrate her mind on the curse. She had no idea if this was going to work and for all she knew this could completely backfire on her. Closing her eyes, the water demon didn't want to curse any particular student so she kept her hand gestures to a minimal. Maybe she should try it on herself?

Without a single drink,
You find yourself without the ability to think.
Let this curse take you away,
You will begin to sway.
Feel the intoxication,
Test the temptation,
And feel the departure of inhibition.

And... she felt nothing. Alcie stared at her incantation and muttered it a few more times to no avail. Maybe she wasn't putting enough focus or concentration into this or maybe it was her incantation. Professor Audley could probably give her some insights. Well, that was a failure but at least she made a somewhat amusing rhyme out of it.

"Ooze Walls," Barth said to Carry. He wasn't even mildly bashful about taking a gander at her sheet. "A shielding technique for leaving your opponent sticky, I think."

He could, with concentration, produce a small sentient glob of ooze, but this would be a lot more ooze. Then again, it didn't have to be sentient. Adjusting his posture and then relaxing, he formed his hands into a single and still mudra. His left hand was a reversed varada (not welcome) with the palm facing towards him, his right hand touching the ground.

Barth had a surprising knowledge bank regarding meditation, partially because any activity that involves staying still was, in his mind, worth knowing about.

Holding the position, he said, experimentally,

Forestall

Gabrian made mental note never to be late for this particular class again (and to perhaps get himself a map drawn so he wouldn't have the same damned trouble finding his way around the premises). He was, however, particularly glad to have joined this class as the Professor began explaining what they would be doing. His eyes strayed instantly as the food appeared before him; he could even smell it.

Frowning as the banquet vanished, he turned his attention back to the Professor, whom promptly set them to work. As each student came up and performed their spell, Gabrian's attention was torn between them and the piece of paper before him. He had set down to scribbling things that came to mind;

Quote:
Control Muck
Fire Breaths
Light Alteration
Nets of Savage Worth
Orb of Disrupting Dust
Rite of Hatefulness
Ritual of Hypnotise Cat
Serpent's Illusion of Cold
The Shrine of Insanity
Wall of Elemental Trickery

After a few minutes of eying his sheet, the demon finally picked out the one he felt he might have a higher chance of performing correctly. Serpent's Illusion of Cold - hadn't the professor mentioned they not only had to figure out how it would look, but also how it would feel, or even taste? He distinctly recalled those few times he'd experienced extreme cold, and thus, set down to envision the feeling as he wrote down the rhyming words.

Freezing winter breath,
And the cold grip of death,
Allow you to behold,
The Serpent's Illusion of Cold.

He had the inkling of a notion that the spell might actually be easier to cast if he'd had access to his serpent form, but given the fact that he couldn't transform in class, he made due with what he had. He moved his hands and tail a few times, as if to experiment with the gestures and took a moment to write down his final thoughts.

Quote:
Serpent's Illusion of Cold - Allows the caster to render the opponent still for a short amount of time. The victim will feel a cold sensation sweeping over his or her body, almost like a large, invisible snake coiling around them, rendering them simply too cold to move. The sensation is deeply uncomfortable but has no harmful, lasting effects on the victims.

Spell must be cast with a fluid movement of hands to mimic the coiling of a snake around an object. Spell probably gains strength if cast while in a reptilian form, using tail instead of hands. As caster mimic the coiling, he or she must chant the following words:

Freezing winter breath,
And the cold grip of death,
Allow you to behold,
The Serpent's Illusion of Cold.

Spell does not lost long and is mostly used as a distraction technique in order to get away from an overpowering situation, or in order to gain enough time to perform an attack that might require some time to perform.

Taking a moment to look over what he'd written, Gabrian nodded to himself, then set about waiting for his turn to get up. After some students performed their spells, he finally got up from his seat and moved to do likewise.

He took a moment to concentrate and then proceeded to move his hands, his tail mimicking the gesture just so as he chanted;

Freezing winter breath,
And the cold grip of death,
Allow you to behold,
The Serpent's Illusion of Cold.

As soon as the chanting was finished, he paused and waited, entirely unsure just how effective (if at all), that had been. He'd never really tried to do this sort of thing before, but he figured that practice made perfect. If he'd been willing to brave the creature feature maze several times... he was more than willing to give this a try too. As many tries as needed in order to succeed; no one could accuse him of not being persistent.

Lizzy took a while to get to work, tapping the end of her pen against the table while she stared at the piece of paper in front of her; her mind simply blanked out when asked to list down spells... Closing her eyes, she tried to put herself into the shoes of a spell caster before opening her eyes again, determined to write down a list for the professor.

Quote:
Casting of Control Rulership
Fields of Acid
Hole Breaking
Illusion of Clean Goblets
Metal Rains
Necromancers' Tunneling
Negate Nondetection
Priests' Evocation of Absorbtion
Purify Shields
Villainous Pits of Blood

Staring at her list, she didn't know if she should feel proud or embarrassed of her work. Half of those didn't really make sense to her, after all, and she had to elaborate on one of those? The Demoness frowned lightly before closing her eyes, running her finger up and down the list to randomly pick one; upon opening her eyes, she realized that she had stopped on 'Fields of Acid'. Picking up her pen again, Lizzy started to write, this time belong her list of spells.

Quote:
Fields of Acid
Allows the caster to transform the ground surrounding him/her into an acidic substance, up to a metre's radius. A strong acid, it would burn anything that steps into it - even the caster himself/herself. The ground will only remain acidic for a short while, turning into a rock-like substance after.

To cast the spell, caster is to imagine a circle around him/her in his/her mind and say the following incantation while extending a hand out, palms faced down. Finish the incantation by sweeping the extended hand to the side quickly.

"Corrosive substance that melts and burns,
Flesh to nothing you will turn.
Fear is something that is earned,
Power is something that I yearn.
Let the ground fade in your presence,
Lend me your power and your essence!"

Her eyes scanned through the spell again, wondering if it looked fine. However, realizing that she had been slow with her work, Lizzy stood up, paper in hand as she read through it one last time; now, all that's left is to preform it!

Closing her eyes, the Demoness imagined a circle around her feet before closing her eyes, slowly stretching out a hand, palms down as she had written on the paper. She then took a deep breath to calm herself before opening her mouth and chanting out the incantation, her voice clear and loud enough just for herself to hear.

"Corrosive substance that melts and burns,
Flesh to nothing you will turn.
Fear is something that is earned,
Power is something that I yearn.
Let the ground fade in your presence..."

She swept her outstretched hand to the side swiftly before opening her eyes, finishing the spell in the same instance, "Lend me your power and your essence!"

Accursed Platinum Zone
Defenders' Courage
Doors of Eternal Thought
Forty Ceremonies of Bone
Gold Alteration
Golden Torch of Metal
Hex of Measure
Mana Ball
Shields of Silver
The Snare of Excellence

The first spell that came to Ithilethiel was a shielding spell. Shields of Silver. She liked the sound of this spell as she thought silver was a nice color. Yes, her opinion on it was that simple. Also, she preferred defensive techniques to offensive ones.

Quote:

Shields of Silver
A very quick to use defensive spell. Used to block various attack spells as well as weak physical attacks. Though the spell does not take long to cast, it is very particular and if the hand gestures of incantation is messed up, it will not work at all or will backfire. Those who are experienced in spell casting are able to cast Shields of Silver without the incantation. The spell can also be easily cast without speaking the incantation if it is thought instead of spoken.

Once the spell is cast, translucent silver walls shoot up around the caster and those in close proximity to the caster.

Feeling good about her description of the spell, she jotted down what she thought to be good instructions for performing the spell.

Quote:

Instructions
Stand facing your attacker, palms together
(utter line 1)
Hands spayed out just in front of you, palms down, pointer and middle finger of right hand over the same fingers of the left hand. Thumbs touching
(utter line 2)
Flip left hand to palm up, leaving the fingers over as they were. Bend thumbs in
(utter line 3)
Bend ring finger and pinky of both hands, bend thumbs out
(utter line 4)
Push your hands outward while uttering line 5 to finish

Quote:

Incantation
line 1. One who shines in the night
line 2. Ready the end of this fright
line 3. The shimmering protection
line 4. The greatest deflection
line 5. Surround in me with your might

Though her face showed practically no emotion, Ithi was quite pleased with her spell. Now, to try it out...

Ithi layed her staff down by her feet. Though it was possible to do the spell while holding something, it would be much harder for her.
Next she centered herself. Closing her eyes, she placed her hands in front of her, palms together.
"One who shines in the night," she whispered.
She paced her right hand over her left and said the second line.
"Ready the end of this fright."
She flipped her left hand over, placing her fingers as she had written.
"The shimmering protection."
Then she bent her fingers in and her thumbs out.
"The greatest deflection."
She pushed her hands outward, palms out. "Surround in me with your might"

Coralie had taken a long time selecting her spell. This was probably one of those rare moments where she was serious. She was not only looking at a list of spells, but she also seemed to have a faculty evaluation form stuffed on her desk, perhaps because she was trying to fill it out when she can. But it lay forgotten for the time being, because right now she seemed intently focused on her list.

Quote:
Deflect Bone
Divine Working of Seduce Walker
Insect's Curing
The Infinite Sigils of the Green Staff
The Lawful Incatation of the Barbarian
The One Thousand Elven Chants of Gold
The Portal of Builders
The Six Rituals of Ruler Seeking
The Three Witcheries of Voidness Transformation
Time Absorbtion

She tapped a few fingers against her lip thoughtfully as she tried to decide which one to use. Honestly, she would have liked to try them all. She was a witch after all. Magic was her thing, her lively hood. Finally she selected one that seemed useful and also one where she could visibly see the change; Time Absorbtion. The entry for it read:

Quote:
Time Absorbtion - Ages the affect object by taking bits of its time and giving it to the caster. The longer the incantation, the more time that is absorbed. Historically has found its most practical use in ripening fruit and bringing farm animals to age. Though some issues of ethics and legality have come up with the spell, it is rarely abused due to the length of time needed for extreme aging processes.

To cast, hold fingers folded down below the chin directed at the object in question and repeat:

"Our life's line
Is drawn by time
Now I draw your line to me
In youth, in age, in prime
Now your time is mine
Until these words cease to be."

Seemed interesting enough. She found a scrap piece of paper and prepared herself to perform it.

A quick look around the room provided the crucial information Belladonna was looking for: Professor Grimm was very busy. So being as stealthy and sneaky as possible (which given the girl's general behavioral patterns was lacking in both regards) she took a single sheet of paper from her bag. Expertly she slipped half of it under another sheet, so that she could quickly cover it up with the first if Professor Grimm happened to walk by (not that she had any practice with this sort of thing. Young girls in boring classes never passed notes to each other. Never). With the feeling of greatest importance and intense spy music playing in her head, Belladonna quickly wrote an assessment.

Thinking it best to continue being discreet, the witch switched out her favorite pink pen for one of a violet color, which to her was definitely inconspicuous. Especially considering the wonderful, although slightly scandalous things she was writing, Belladonna felt it much more pertinent to hide her answers. Hhmmm. Yes, very good.

Having finished she quickly stashed the paper away again, turned back to the others and watched as everyone else did their spells. She was kind of dying to know how she did! This was a very important class!!!
