Avery laughed lightly nodding her head. "Same, i'm 19 years as of a month ago." She said quickly. "Are there more of you?" She asked looking around. She'd grown up in the lighthouse and in the water and this was the first time she'd ever seen anything like him.

Laru shook his head slowly when she asked him that, "None that I have ever seen..." He said, looking away. He began to shiver softly.

"Oh, I'm sorry.." Avery said, both about him being the only one and the fact he was shivering. She quickly slid into the water next to him so he wasn't out of the water.

Laru fell back into the water, floating on the surface. He smiled at her, feeling a bit better now that she was now near to him.

"How come you haven't tried going down to the pier and talking with people, instead of just now talking to me?" Avery asked treading water gently. She was only kicking back and forth while her hands moved side to side.

Laru shook his head softly, flipping his tail back gently, "Im not like you... Any of you... I dont like to be hurt..." He said, "But... I just saw you and... I had to see more."

Avery nodded her head. Most people in the town were fishermen and would have tried to hurt him. "Well thank you for that honor." Avery said with a smile and a light blush. "Most people would have thought it strange but would have eventually excepted it." She said with a smile.

Laru sighed, "But I dont want to talk to other people..." He whispered, inching closer to her, "Im just glad that I can talk to someone... And you welcomed me so easily."

"At first i thought i had actually hit my head....you don't hear about mermen unless it's a fairy tale" Avery said confessing. "Your very easy to talk to." Avery said blushing again and put an arm on the boat because her legs were tired.

Laru smiled fully, closing his eyes for a few moments, "Im real... arent I?" He asked her, almost afraid that he wasnt.

Avery smiled gently and touched his cheeks and his forehead like she was doing and exam of him then pinched herself. "Yep, your real." She said laughing gently.

"You have very smooth skin... just like water and silk." Avery said gently. Avery's face went red and had a look of slightly confusion. "Um... thank you...." Avery said shrugging. She guessed it might have been the wood cleaner, it smelt like lemons.

Avery went under water for a moment and came back up when she felt the redness go away. "Uh... only when emotions change from embarrassed and flattered." Avery said quickly.
