Marcus followed Kate through the house, glad of the food and hospitality. "Is it really that lonely here? My father and I... we talk all the time. Then again, close quarters make for close friends. I don't think I could live in such a large house. It feels... intimidating. Like you could get lost here and never find your way out..." Marcus let his words drift off as he looked around again.

Kate looked at Marcus and nodded sadly. She turned away quickly and then quietly said, "My parents and I used to be really close, but they got sick about a year ago and now.... I'm not allowed to see them so I don't get sick and I have to go to the town with a few guards so... I have no friends. And I- ....." Kate shook her head and sighed. She finally reached the dinning room area and looked at the table. It had a ton of food on it and a bunch of chairs, but Kate knew that only two would be filled.

Marcus frowned slightly, thinking about what Kate said. He couldn't imagine a world without his friends. If his father had been sick, his time would have been filled with tending the sheep and making sure his father would get well. He pulled one of the chairs out, standing beside it as he thought. He planned on taking it for himself, but his thoughts distracted him for a few moments. He rarely thought about the downside of other peoples' position in the world.

Kate sat down at the chair she always took. It was the chair right across from the chairs that would've been where her parents sat. Kate took a little bit of food and set it in front of her before quietly eating it. She ate slowly and in a refined way. She ate like someone who had social status to keep would eat in front of very important people. Kate looked over at Marcus and smiled softly.

Marcus took his seat, taking a small portion of the food for himself. He wasn't very hungry, and was still dripping with ice cold water. He ate slowly, but with few manners. He was unschooled in them, but he tried to emulate Kate enough to be passable. When he saw her smile, he returned it.

Kate watched Marcus eat and noticed that he had few manners. It was interesting watching him since she had always been scolded for not having manners. Kate finished quickly and let a maid take away her plate before waiting for Marcus to finish.

Marcus finished his meal soon after Kate did, and gave the maid who came for his plate a look of wonder. The table was still laden with food. "What happens to all this excess? I can't imagine it just being thrown out." After the words were out, Marcus bit his lip and scolded himself for not thinking before speaking.

Kate looked at Marcus for a second with a surprised look. She wasn't sure how to respond. She didn't know really. "I- uh.. I'm not very sure to be honest. I'm very sorry. I suppose those who work here eat the excess food, but I don't know. I'm sorry for not being able to give you a clearer answer." Kate said with a soft smile while she tilted her head to the side slightly.

Marcus winced a little. "It's quite alright. I shouldn't have asked. My mouth was ahead of my mind, for a moment there. You could just ask one of your servants. Then again, I shouldn't really be caring..." Shut up and be grateful for the hospitality, idiot... He smiled shyly, hoping Kate would forgive him for being stupid.

Kate smiled lightly and laughed. "Yeah I probably should ask. Although I'm not sure if anyone would actually tell me. You'd be surprised at how little people tell you around here." Kate said softly. She looked around and then said, "Come with me. I'll show you to a room you can use for the night. In the morning someone will help you home if you want."

Marcus stood, pushing the chair back in close to the table. "Thank you very much. I should be able to find my own way home, as long as this storm clears up. My father is likely already worried, and he gets paranoid when he's worried. Showing up with a stranger might be a bad idea."

Kate led Marcus through the house calmly before saying, "Yes. That is understandable. I do hope the storm clears so you can go home safely." Kate looked down. She did want Marcus to get home safely, but she liked him being there. It was nice to have company.

Marcus followed, watching the walls for the various pictures and tapestries. Rarely did he have someone to talk to for so long, other than his father. It was nice that he was able to enjoy another's company for more than an hour or so.

Kate finally got to the room that she was leading Marcus to. It was three rooms down from her own room. Kate turned around and looked at Marcus. "This is the room. If you go three rooms down that way it's my room. If you need anything you can ask me or someone else here. Everyone else are people who work here and you can ask them questions too. They'll help you if you need anything." Kate said happily.
((So I'm trying to decide if I should kill Kate's parents like... In my next post. Any thoughts?))

"Thank you very much. I'll not forget this favor. If you ever need anything... well, you know where to find me. I suggest we both get some sleep. I have a long walk tomorrow, and had a stressful day." Marcus ducked into the room, thinking Kate again before closing the door and turning to examine his lodgings for the night.
((Well, it would be a lot easier for her to seek the comfort of Marcus' arms were he but three doors down. So it really depends on how fast you want the RP to progress.))
