Melanie | Jane | Cross No matter what it takes, I'll find a way to save you Melanie didn't turn around when he told her to wait and instead she let him catch up to her. While she wasn't exactly mad at him, she didn't want to be around him . . . at least not while she was visible. "Look it's not exactly what you said that's upset me, alright?" she said to him, not wanting to him feel like he was responsible. "It's just that what you said reminded me of something. I was. . . close to the twins in a way I guess you can say and having them brought up again stung a bit and reopened some old wounds," she said with another shrug. "Nothing to apologize for, I'll be fine," she said with a small smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. "And good, get yourself to that hospital because with everything that's going on with you lately, I'd say it's not exactly the symptoms of 'nothing.' I don't know why your sick, but I'd say coughing up blood isn't good," she said to him with a sad smile and worry in her eyes that she pushed away quickly to cover it. While he hadn't told her what his problems were exactly, Mel knew that even if she knew nothing about what was wrong with him, that she could piece these things together with a bit thinking. Her goal wasn't to worry him exatly, but rather to get into his head that he shouldn't just brush it away like it was nothing. She realized humans would sometimes brush it off in order to ease thier own minds, but Mel didn't want to risk losing another charge. She figured if she made them worry enough, then they'd take care of themselves much better. Melanie realized then that as she'd been speaking to Reginer, she'd let a little bit of an angry tone into her voice, something that she didn't like and didn't often do. "Sorry, I didn't mean to become angry with you," she said as she looked across the street for a moment, a thoughtful frown on her face.
No matter what is at stake, I'll do anything to see that you make it through safe.

Reginer Audo ((Sorry I've been very unproductive lately. I swear I'll try to improve as I just got everything settled down.)) Reginer smiled and looked at her and shook his head " My apologies then beacuse if I had known that I wouldn't have brought them up." he said and crossed his arms " You can say I don't need to apologize but there's a lot to apologize for it seems." he said referring to her feelings at the moment as it seems his talk about the twins and angel did make her sad and either way he was responsible for bringing it up. He was rather surprised when she said the words " Everything going on with you lately." he stared at her she had only just met him and she was saying that like she was watching him from the start. He shrugged " I suppose you have a point, I would have just swept it under the rug but the universe didn't seem to want to leave me alone about it beacuse every time I turned around there was something about the hospital." he said " I even had my school nurse ask me to see a doctor a few days ago." he looked up. He didn't notice the anger in her voice as she spoke and he stared " I didn't even notice." he said and chuckled " I tend to just automatically tune out any anger even when I don't realize it." he said.
He tried to think and nodded and turned around jogging into the house. He pulled his necklace form around the twin angels and ran back to her as he put it around her neck and tried to cheer her up or at least put a small smile on her face. He went around to face her and leaned down a bit since he was actually very tall and she was shorter he looked into her eyes trying not to be frozen in them " Can I ask you a favor for me?" he asked her " You believe in angels and everything and I'm heading to the hospital tomorrow so they can identify my problem." he rubbed the back of his head " Pray for me will you?" he asked " I really want this to just be a minor issue and maybe a prayer from a friend would help." he shrugged " Maybe talk to an angel and see if they'll be there with me to help me even if its the worst news I could get." he said.
He closed his eyes " I would really appreciate it Melanie." he said and stood " Anyway I should get home a make sure my house is in order...and I'm sure yuor parents are worried." he said. He walked back home and slowly closed the door just waving to her one last time as he sat on the couch and put his forehead in the palm of his hand now he was worried and he was feeling worse as he had been for the past few days but like she said it was getting worse. He was actually going on what breaths he could draw as he found a little hard to breath. He stood up and went into the kitchen and grabbed the pitcher of water but started to drink it hoping it would help him breath a little better but he was having a difficult time swallowing. He sat down and felt a little tired which he had been tired. He was trying his hardest to appear normal and not sick so as not to worry anyone but it was weighing on him as he closed his eyes and decided to rest for a moment.

Melanie | Jane | Cross No matter what it takes, I'll find a way to save you Melanie watched him jog into his house and come back. She was a little surprised when he put something around her neck, but soon relaxed a bit and looked down at the necklace that rested against the skin of her collar bone. She gently felt it between her thumb and index finger for a moment, as she studied it for a second before she glanced up at Reginer when he'd leaned down to be even with her height. She nodded at his question before listening curiously as to what his request might be. The question honestly surprised her, humans were usually not so forward with requests such as those unless it was to someone they'd known for awhile. "Of course," she said automatically after he'd finished, a small smile gracing her lips. "Never doubt that there isn't an angel with you, Reginer. They're there even if you can't see them I think. The times are few when they leave you and even then it's not for all that long," she said to him softly, but hoped that he wouldn't think of her strangely for saying such a thing.
Melanie was silent for a moment and right before he left, she decided to add one more thing to hopefully reassure him a little. "You know how I said I wanted to be a nurse when you asked me what I wanted to do?" she said, pausing a moment. "I volunteer in the hospital as kind of a step towards that career, so maybe I'll be able to swing by where you're at and see you," she said to him before waving at him when he was at his door a little bit later, hoping that parting comment might bring him a little comfort.
Melanie glanced around the street, looking for any prying eyes peeping out the windows, innocent bystanders on the sidewalks or on their lawns. When she saw no one near, she quickly faded out and changed back into her angel form which was much more confortable and familiar to her. She sighed slightly and walked to Reginer's house, glancing through the windown for a second to make sure that she couldn't see him before she slipped silently and quickly into the door, closing it shut behind her. Mel went to where he was at and worried her bottom lip with her teeth as she studied him, noticing him having difficutly even as he drifted off to sleep. She walked closer to him and, with a feather light touch, she gently pressed her fingers against his cheek softly, easing a bit of his distress so his sleep would be a little more comfortable for him at least for a while.
Melanie walked back a few more steps, till her back thumped against the wall and she scooted down it till she was sitting on the floor. She dragged her legs up to her chest and lightly rested her chin against the tops of her knees as she watched Reginer, wrapping her wings around herself. Please let him be okay, she thought, sending that quick little prayer to heaven as she heaved another sigh. If there was one thing that she wanted at the moment, it was for Reginer to be alright. For both his sake, as well as hers. She couldn't lose another charge, especially not him. She wouldn't.

Reginer Audo ((Thank you)) Reginer the next morning woke up feeling terrible but his slept oddly felt a little reliving. He stood up and walked upstairs and picked out a normal outfit as it was Monday and depending on the news he might still go to school. He didn't fee like eating though he knew it was important but somehow eating just seemed to be a real waste of time on his part. He instantly set up and since this was so early he didn't have to answer to any of the people on the streets.
He had to walk to the hospital and get check on since he was scheduled for when there weren't so many people in there. He was at the hospital after an hours walk and sat in the lobby as he waited for the doctor to call since there were only a few people. He nearly put his hands together to pray as he was worried but he was aware that it wasn't him/. He didn't know why he was so opposed to the idea of praying for help but he couldn't bring himself to do it no matter what. He just hoped Melanie would as he leaned back and closed his eyes waiting patiently.

Melanie | Jane | Cross No matter what it takes, I'll find a way to save you Melanie had mutely followed him around the house this morning and to the hospital. It was hard for her to manuever around the busy and crowded hospital slightly without accidentally bumping into someone. Her attention was split between making sure that Reginer was alright and trying to adviod the people that were rushing past her, or she was walking past herself. When they reached the waiting room Melanie was relieved to see that it was a little more controlled though still as crowded. Melanie sat a few seats down from Reginer as a worried frown tugged down the corners of her lips.as silent prayers ran through her head.
Melanie had simply sat there for about fifteen minutes before she sensed a doctor approaching Reginer and she looked in that direction. She made at the words that he said over the murmur of other conversations going on in the waiting room. The doctor turned, looking back briefly to motion him back. Melanie rose from her seat and waited on Reginer to follow the man. She wanted to give him an encouraging nudge, but being invisible and all, she'd pretty sure a touch would do nothing more then freak him out right now.

Reginer Audo Reginer looked up when the doctor finally called for him after a very brief conversation he was finally told to come to the back with the doctor. He nodded and stood up following the doctor until they reached a certain room. Reginer was a little scared and worried but he was gonna make sure he saw it through as he wanted to know what was wrong with him. The doctor asked him a few questions before they got started. " Do you smoke?" the doctor asked to which Reginer replied " No sir.". The doctor simply nodded " Are you around anyone who smokes?" the doctor asked and Reginer had to think about that one " My mother and my cousin but I'm not around them that long." he said. The doctor then went through the normal routine before Reginer started to get checked out. It took a few hours but soon Reginer was in a room all by himself .
He held his head feeling a little tired as he waited for the results. The doctor seemed worried even before testing once Reginer told the doctor what was going on. He waited and waited still worried until the doctor came in with a rather depressing look and Reginer knew immediately that it was bad news and he frowned as the doctor started to speak to him. " Mister Audo for the most part you seem to be a healthy young man. Your physical condition is very surprising for someone at yuor age, your mental health is in good condition and we couldn't find any other problems..however." he said and at this point Reginer stopped breathing as what came next was beyond distressing and caused him to bite his lip its start to bleed.
" Mister Audo it seems that you have cancer and an abnormal case at that." the doctor told him. Reginer closed his eyes and put his forehead in the palm of his hand as the doctor continued " We could try and treat it but its spreading rapidly and we can't really predict when it will completely take hold." he said " We might attempt treatment but it won't really work as its spread far throughout yuor body, I'm surprised your still alive." he said. Reginer shook his head " We'll thats uh, rather distressing news." he said really trying his hardest to seem unfazed by the news though he was in a very bad place at the moment but he didn't bother to show it. He and the doctor talked for an hour before Reginer finally left the hospital. Once outside he took one deep breath and shook his head and started to walk home though he seemed rather spaced out and depressed.

Melanie | Jane | Cross No matter what it takes, I'll find a way to save you Melanie had stayed in the room with Reginer the whole time that he was getting tested and waiting on the results. She paced the room that he was in, back and forth as he waited in, worrying her bottom lip every now and then. When she saw the doctor come in and heard what he said Reginer's problem was, her legs turned very shaky beneath her and she leaned against the nearby wall for support to keep her up. Cancer? Out of all the things that Reginer could possibly have, he had to have cancer. And at that, a type that wasn't going to be cured and something that Melanie couldn't really help him with without getting into trouble herself.
Melanie could take care of everything that would come at him such as objects, cars, people, ect. and she had done so for almost two years now. But cancer? Yeah, she could take care of it, but healing an illness like that that was supposed to take someone out of the world simply because it was there time was forbidden and could land Melanie in a lot of trouble. "I'm surprised you're still alive" the doctors words traveled through her mind over and over. If he was surprised that Reginer was still alive now, then surely he didnt' think that he was going to live much longer at all.
At that moment, Melanie knew to what lengths she'd go to save him. Losing another person that was under her care was out of the question in her opinion, losing someone that she truly cared was out of the question to. Although it would be at a great cost to her. . . and inadvertantly him to since he'd be dragged into it as well, Melanie knew that she had to to save his life as well as her own emotional stability. Losing those twins had damaged her for quite sometime. Losing another person so closely after was sure to damage her further and she didn't want that feeling anymore. Melanie decided that once they reached his house, that she'd appear to him in her true form and explain to him what she'd chosen to do. . but only if he agreed could she get her plan done.
No matter what is at stake, I'll do anything to see that you make it through safe.

Reginer Audo ((Writers block)) Reginer made his way home after an hour of slow walking he ignored the constant calls form his friends and walked inside. Once inside he took a deep breath and sat down closed his eyes for a moment trying to think. He wished he hadn't of heard the news but in a way it was a good thing as now he wouldn't be surprised when he died. He kind of wondered what it was like to die so at least he would learn something. He would have to try a little harder to hide everything especially since he still had school tomorrow and it was only going to get worse.

Melanie | Jane | Cross No matter what it takes, I'll find a way to save you Melanie followed him into his house, a determined set to her face. She watched him as he sat down and while she was a hundred percent sure of what he was thinking, she had a pretty good guess and she didn't like it. With a sigh, she let the invisibilty effect that shielded her from everyone's sight fall to where she was just standing in his house. Of course, his eyes were still closed and all so he hadn't seen her at that exact moment which was probably a good thing. She didn't know how he'd react to having an angel suddenly standing in his house without warning and she wanted to get a few words in before he looked up and had a chance to react. "Alright, so please don't freak out till I explain, okay? Obviously, angels are real and I'm your guardian angel and I'm kind of stressing at the fact that you have cancer, because I can't save you from that without getting you an I both in trouble," she said throwing her arms up in a helpless gesture, before she folded the across her chest and sighed slightly.
"Mm, and I'm sure that if you look even remotely closely at me, you'll fnd out that I'm Melanie," she said to him absently, figuring she probably should've started with that. "The only things that are different is my hair and the fact that I've got wings," she said, ruffling them for a second. Her eyes remained the same blue color, her voice sounded the same though a little more pure sounding she supposed, and her body was the same as well but she had the radiance of an angel. The radiance wasn't so much a light as just a soft kind of glow that wasn't natural, but not creepy either.

Reginer Audo Reginer immediately opened his eyes upon hearing a familiar voice and looked down to see Melanie though her hair was black and she had angel wings. He at first thought he had died moments ago and that the angel was here to drag him away until she started to explain. He remained silent like she requested and stared at her as she did and when she was done he silently stood up and went into the kitchen. He went into the refrigerator and grabbed a pitcher of water as he looked over at her and shook his head and poured the entire pitcher on himself and closed his eyes before opening them but he still saw her and he stared dumbfounded. He went back over to the couch and sat down " Okay so this must be real." he said. He shook his head and looked at her " Listen I uh, appreciate the offer but I'd rather not get you in trouble." he said " I don't really know you plus I'm sure whatever type of trouble it involves is way worse than my current problem, but thank you Melanie." he said

Melanie | Jane | Cross No matter what it takes, I'll find a way to save you Melanie, despite te levity of the situation, was amused when he'd dumped the pitcher of water of his head and she found laughter coming from her lips at such a display. "I'll say," she murmured, bringing her laughter under control before the seriousness returned to her face at all else that he said. "I'll alright, I listened to you, now you listen to me, Reginer Audo," she said to him. "You may not really know me, but I've known you for about a year and a half now," she said to him, before frowing slightly at how that sounded. "Not to sound creepy or anything though, I know how that might be taken. For guardian angels it's simply our job to do so. It's second nature to us and not something we really have to think about," she said with a shrug before shaking her head, that wasn't really the point. "You know how I said I was close to those twins? They were my charges, it was my job to protect them. I lost Lizzie, then two months later I went and failed Maddie as well. It took me awhile to get over that. I cannot lose you, too," she said to him and though her voice held a heavy emotion, she kept her face carefully controlled by years of experience. "Besides, I've already broken one rule. You're not supposed to know exactly what I am," she muttered with a shrug of her shoulders.

Reginer Audo Reginer stared at her " Is there a way to hide it?" he asked and shook his head " If I were to accept it and agree what kind of trouble would it cause?" he asked and crossed his arms and stared at her. If she knew him she knew he was gonna try and find a way to keep her out of trouble beacuse no matter how much trouble he was in he would put others before him like the time he broke his leg to get an injured puppy back for a small boy when he first came here. He used that leg regardless of the pain and retrieved the puppy for the boy who was actually now a good friend. There was a time in Germany where he broke his arm defending his friend from bullets and that time where he ended up in the hospital for a month after falling off the roof trying to retrieve the toy for his five year old friend.

Melanie | Jane | Cross No matter what it takes, I'll find a way to save you Melanie pursed her lips at his questions, clearly displeased that he'd asked such. It wasn't in her nature to lie, and now that it wouldn't be lieing to his benefit particulary, she didn't see the point in doing such. While what she wanted might not be possible with her telling the complete truth like she was about to, she figured honesty was the best policy in this case. After all, all lies just came back to bite you later, what was the point in lieing?
Melanie walked to the kitchen window and, her blue eyes staring blankely outside as she spoke to him. "Yes, I suppose I could save you and hide the fact that I done so by making you appear to still be sick, but even that would not solve all problems," she slowly, her voice soft as she never once looked at him. "This cancer you have. . you're destined to die for, I've suspected it for some time now. I knew something was wrong with you even before you did, I kept dropping hints even for you, but you either paid them no mind or ignored them," she said to him, her eyes coming to rest on him. There was a brief flash of anger in them before she let it fade though her next comment came in a hard tone that said her annoyance was still there. "Don't you remember the hints I dropped? Random commercials, letters coming to your mailbox, random comment your friends made, all the stuff that related to getting yourself to a doctors office visit? If you'd went, then maybe the cancer could've been treated early enough to where you wouldn't face dieing. Preventing us from both having to make choices," she said before smoothing her features and calming herself down once more before looking at the window again.
"As for the trouble. . . it would cause us both trouble," she stated with a slight frown. "As I said, I can't just save you and hide it and act as if, eventually, you recovered on your own. You're on Death's records; they'll miss you and know something's gone awry which would prompt a search," she said to him, pausing a moment before continuing. "It's also against Angel Law to save you from a natural death like this, everyone must die in different ways, this is how you are meant to die; natural cause. If I save you, I've broken a law. . I've already broken one by simply just appearing to you. Appearing to your charges doesn't send off triggers though, saving you would because it would acquire a nice amount of my energy that leaves. . . traces, for lack of a better word," she said with a small shrug. "When an Angel breaks that serious of a law, they actually work with demons to send them to kill the angel that they've deemed 'fallen'. And because you are the one that would've been 'unnaturally' saved in their opinion, they'll try to kill you, too," she said to him, rather bluntly for the levity of the situtation. "I can keep you safe though, I've been trained. I may not look like a fighter, but all angels have the potential to be lethal if needed," she said to him before resting her gaze on him, wondering what his response would be to all that she'd said.

Reginer Audo Reginer listened to her with his arms crossed waiting for her to finish as he raised a brow. He sighed " We'll I'm sorry but the hints you dropped were rather subtle." he said " You could have just had my mother call me and remind me seeing as how I gone everything else." he said and stood up stretching " I'm still not sure, I don't like putting my own health above another and I certainly don''t like being protected all the time." he said " I know Angel are to protect their charges but don't think about me on this one beacuse I'm certainly not." he looked around and put his hands in his pocket " I mean your an angel and your important and could help someone who needs it much more than me.' he said " I mean yeah its rather depressing that I'm going to die from a disease I never thought I'd get since I have never smoke and I prefer to remain healthy." he said " I mean why go to such great lengths for me?" he asked " I guess loosing a charge is sad but maybe beyond me you can find one truly worth protecting...why would you risk it for me?" he asked her staring into her eyes.

Melanie | Jane | Cross No matter what it takes, I'll find a way to save you Melanie frowned at him when he said her hints were subtle. That had been the point, she didn't want to make it painfully obvious at the beginning, but she had done so at the end. "Well, I'm apologize for my imcompetence," she said to him with biting sarcasm before she listened to the rest of what he said with little patience. Melanie wasn't used to waiting on things such as permission from a human, it was usually what Melanie wanted, she did and that's the way it was. She'd never have to point out the pro's and con's of the situation. "You're just going to have to deal with being protected all the time," she simply to him, unaffected by that. "Everyone is protected by some angel, we always follow and watch. I imagine that sounds either boring or extremely creepy to you, but it's our job," she said with a shrug of her shoulders.
Melanie listened as she visibly tensed slightly, seeing him getting closer and closer to the one question that she didn't want to answer. And there it is, she thought as she heard the very last thing he'd asked. Melanie didn't flinch from his gaze, but it was clear that she was a little uncomfortable with the question. It took her a few more minutes then it should have to come up with an answer, and even then it wasn't very near the truth and was very vague. "For one, I don't want to lose another charge. After years and years of training, I finally get my first cases about five years ago and I lose them within two years. Same thing is about to happen to you, and I might only have you for less time then that even. What kind of angel can't keep her charges alive?" she asked him, looking away for a second before she glanced back at him. "Besides, you've barely lived your life. It's just started for all practical purposes, no one should die as young as you," she said to him before she went silent for a long while as if lost in thought. About five minutes later she mumbled two small sentences. "I risk it for you, because I want you to live. I need you to live," she said, glancing back out the window once more, though in those last sentences, it was obvious that there was something else.
