why are people scared of furries? why are they ridiculed?

Unfortunately, not all Furries are innocent.
A portion of them do have weird tendencies: scat, vore, zoophilia, etc.
Now, you can be Furry without all that and you can be into that without being a Furry.
So, some people know Furries who are into the weirder things and assume all Furries are just as strange.
Some people think Furries are all zoophiles, which are actually a totally different thing.

I'll even admit, I find many Furries to be annoying for various reasons.
Some of them are very pious for Furry fandom.
They think Furries can do no wrong and are discriminated against like gays and minorities.

And then there are some people who hate for no real reason.
They hate Furries because they know other people who hate them, so they jump on the bandwagon without a true opinion.

The best thing to do is to stand up for yourself, but respect other peoples' choices.
They aren't Furry and maybe the don't want to be, so you can't force anyone into it.
It's very difficult to "convert" someone.
Just be confident in yourself and be informed so you can enlighten some who might not have known otherwise.

I've got two characters: a she-Wolf (Larka) and a Tigress (Nomaki).
I've managed to "convert" my Mate, though he claims to have been a closeted Fur before he met me.
I don't mind Fursuits, though I HATE baggy mascot suits.
I prefer to have a slimmer fitting, maybe 3/4, suit.

I collect Furry porn (actually porn of any kind that stimulates my fancy).
I'm a member of many groups, guilds, websites, etc. for Furries.

I do not like zoophilia.
I am kinky, though I don't take it to the extreme.

I RP a lot.
I've been working on writing stories.

I like the idea of playing as my Fursona.
I would very much like to be her, as she is sexy and badass all in one little adorable package.
My Fursona is a Wolf and my Mate is a cheetah and with my college major, I plan on working with wolves in cheetahs for a career.

A member and I once tried planning out a Fur "meet" that was unlike any convention.
It was a gathering of people who were Furries or just wanted to have some fun, and we would dress as our characters (from full suits to just accessories) and we would run through a park or woods at night.
This never came to fruition, but it is still a dream of mine.

I have a few accessories: 2 tails, ears, leg warmers, and wrist warmers.
I have bookmarked several sites from which I want to pick various things from to "complete" my Fursona but for real life.

I usually tell people we're just part of a fandom.
Like otakus for anime or Trekkies for Star Trek.
There are a few crazies, but we're all people with a common interest.



And I like the second one better, personally.
The first one doesn't show enough of the skin, so you can't really tell what it is.

But that's not a real furry. That's just a furry fan. All furries have fursonas, even if they don't yet know exactly what it is. I first became a furry in 9th grade, but back then I was a "werewolf" type dog, and my fursona has changed several times since then.

The thing about anime is true. But show me where in the fandom if says that that is not being a furry. There are many different definitions. Just because that would be the logical thing doesn't mean that it isn't a definition. Not everything in the world is logical anymore.

Im intrested about th ewhole furry thing. Im not sure about fully dressing up as (at least anytime soon) but i would like to learn more.

If it helps i have a few personality test results on my profile.

Other things about me to help give insite: I love twilight (moonlight not the glittery vampires). i am photophobic. i wuv my kitties cat_4laugh cat_whee anything cute, tiny, and fluffy is like Kryptonite to me. i love soft fuzzy anything, stuffies, blankets, etc...
and most of all, i have never felt fully comfortable around the average person. in other words i dont feel like im human. i dont know if im more like a cyber-organism, or something else.
