Bare with me people....This poem is long:

God the Malevolent

They parade around night and day
They, the theists, demand we obey
They say, “Love him”
They cry, “He loves you”
They scream, “He died for you”
They shout en masse “He is the way, our Creator”
You call him Father, and divine him Creator
What kind of father does not forgive?
What kind of creator makes his creations flawed?

There sits the dumb one, and his parents claim
That god made him that way, special for them
Your god made your child flawed…
Why are you proud?

There on the deathbed she lays dying, wasting away
Cancerous at birth, with so little a chance at life
Her parents say “ God made her for us,”
Her parents pray, “God, please help us heal her.”
Your god made her cancerous at birth….
You pray to the one who caused this suffering?
Are you sure you should be praying…to him?

There a body lies inside the death box
Figures gather around
Cold, silent, with tears streaming
Lips tight as sharp pain slices the heart
All of their freedoms are worth fighting for
Thus those who fight will often die
The soldier of freedom is being lowered in the ground
Breaking the silence are the theists
From behind a bike brigade
They are accusing tolerance of difference
As the culprit of why that soldier died
They are saying that god killed him
For tolerating difference
Would your god be proud of this?
Are you proud of this ignorance?
Why do you preach tolerance?
Why preach, when you yourselves are the root of intolerance?
Why?

People are dying
Suffering
Crying
Bleeding
Needing
Mothers weeping
Hearts breaking
Killers creeping
People hating

People are dieing
Soldiers are dieing
Innocents are dieing
Children are dieing
Mothers are dieing
Families are dieing
Everything is dieing
In the name of that lord
In the honor of that god
Who is so important?
That nothing else matters
That cold murder is justified?
That renders it acceptable to commit Genocide?
That our own rights can be swept away?
That countless bodies to waste can be laid?

Who is worth the violence?
Who is worth the murder?
Who is worth the cruelty?
Who is worth the intolerance?
Who is worth the problems?
Who is worth the corruption?
Who?

I feel as though we are lemmings on the run
Heading towards a cliff
Heading towards suicide
Have we lost our minds?
Maybe, but maybe we should step back and learn
It is ok to be different and get along
It is ok to believe
It is ok to not believe
There is no proof for either side to be proven true
So rather than engage in a slaughter of minds, will, and bodies
Let us find peace
Maybe when you understand why you reject other gods
Maybe then you will understand why we reject yours
I don’t see the logic in worshipping the god malevolent
However it is not my place, our place to stop you from believing
So give the same consideration, because it is not your place
To convert others, to tell them they are wrong
When your belief is based on faith
You should know where you belong
Stop pointing fingers theistic worm
Stop screaming that we are being mean
Step back and observe yourselves
Observe the religious family with the dumb child
Observe the religious family with the cancerous child
Observe your fellow worshippers at the funeral of the soldier
Observe, and learn why people defy you
Observe, and learn why people are resisting you
Observe, and learn why you are losing your flock
Observe, learn, and change

You can follow your delusion
I can follow my delusion
We can get along peacefully
We can find common ground
We live on the same rock
We drink the same water
We live the same life in different minds
There is common ground below us
There is common sky above us
We are the same
We are different
We are equal
We are unequal
We can get along
We cannot get along
We are black
We are white
We are yellow
We are brown
We are one
We are separate

Tired of the hypocrisy?
I am too
Live and let live
It isn’t hard to do
Peace, harmony, understanding
It starts with trust,
It starts with tolerance
It starts with you theists.
It starts with you.

An lo and behold, I called upon the power of Pink Floyd!

Sheep is an awesome song. It's not really referring to religion completely, especially if you listen to the rest of the album (Animals). It's actually referring to society and is more political in nature. Still, it could apply. The bolded parts is said by a dozen voices, as if being said in a prayer in Church.

Pink Floyd
Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
You better watch out,
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Jordan, and I have seen
Things are not what they seem.

What do you get for pretending the danger's not real.
Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.
What a surprise!
A look of terminal shock in your eyes.
Now things are really what they seem.
No, this is no bad dream.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He makes me down to lie
Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by.
With bright knives He releaseth my soul.
He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places.
He converteth me to lamb cutlets,
For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger.
When cometh the day we lowly ones,
Through quiet reflection, and great dedication
Master the art of karate,
Lo, we shall rise up,
And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

Bleating and babbling we fell on his neck with a scream.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers
March cheerfully out of obscurity into the dream.

Have you heard the news?
The dogs are dead!
You better stay home
And do as you're told.
Get out of the road if you want to grow old.

Pink Floyd was one of the greatest bands of all time.

I wish I could write like you, Sanguvixen.

Wow, Sanguvixen... that's really moving. I love it. It's all so true, though. They preach tolerence but are intolerent themselves... That was just so well written.

To Reach the Surface
Inspired by a debate with Beaufleur.

Legs kicking
Body squirming
The hands hold you back

You see the light
You sense the air
Yet you still are drowned

Fight and escape
Lungs are bursting
You've reached the surface

Glancing around
Your eyes widen
You are not alone

The others wave
You are greeted
They have been waiting

The air is fresh
The scent of truth
Not what they told you

"Poison!" they said
"The air is bad!
Drown and you shall breathe!"

You look around
Underwater
Many more still drown

You pity them
And take their hand
But they pull you down

Their attempts fail
I wish to breathe
I will not submerge

All that was taught
All that I knew
I have falsified

What they believe
I know untrue
You can't breathe water

Rough, I know. But I never fancied myself as much of a poet.

I had a lot on my mind when I wrote that. I still havn't gotten over the disgust that people would be so bold as to go to the funeral of a soldier, and so disrespectful and crude as start preaching that a "God" killed the soldiers because of tolerance of homosexuality.

I was watching the news and they were talking about some good religious group who got together to have a soldier with no family put to rest the right way instead of being donated to science.

So I had a little outburst that scared my family, where I said "Why aren't they covering those religious people down in whatever state it was, who were going to the funerals of dead soldiers preaching that god was killing them because of tolerance towards homosexuals? Why arn't they showing that as well?" Then I explained about how those bikers created a blockade so that the mourners could mourn in peace, and my mom said "Good for them."

I just apalls me that they never show the negative side of religion and religous groups on the news. Always the few positive things, and never the atrocious things that are commonplace. Then I was reminded of a song called "Death of Outrage" by Papa Roach....All I could think of...."Is there a Death of Outrage?"

I strongly feel that that epsiode where the Baptist followers were making a fool of themselves over at that funeral should have been in the news. That bit of wrongdoing deserved more than a brief show on the Internet.

That and other things had happened that day, so I decided to sit down and write a poem to vent my feelings. There are some things I am tired of, and to help release some of those things I write it into poetry. It helps out a lot.

The pink floyd song reminds me of a song put out by Perfect Circle called Pet. Perfect circle is anti-gov't and anti-religion.

It is so ironic how they called a religious person's followers a flock. I don't like the idea of following a person like a sheep...but that is just me.

I like that....although I'm not certain what the topic is though.. sweatdrop

I like the end stanza. You can't breathe water....it sounds so logical...but than again most theists who swear by thier god wouldn't know logic if it fell out a tree and shone light upon them.

Honestly, the only line there that I'm truly proud of is "Drown and you shall breathe!".

It was my best attempt at a metaphor for what it feels like to become an atheist, and realise that everything you were told wasn't necessarily true.

I found another song that, though not exactly applying to atheists (And theists), certainly puts the right point across.

Rush

Witch Hunt

The night is black, without a moon.
The air is thick and still.
The vigilantes gather on
The lonely torchlit hill.

Features distorted in the flickering light,
Faces are twisted and grotesque.
Silent and stern in the sweltering night,
The mob moves like demons possesed.
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right,
Confident their ways are best.

The righteous rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will.
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill.

They say there are strangers who threaten us,
Our immigrants and infidels.
They say there is strangeness to danger us
In our theatres and bookstore shelves,
That those who know whats best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves.

Quick to judge,
Quick to anger,
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand.

Rush, in my opinion, might be better than even Pink Floyd.

Don't ever say such a horrible thing about Pink Floyd again. *dies*
xD

I think I did see it on the news. I don't watch enough news to say how much press is got, but I have heard about it other than on the internet.

You write well, Sanguvixen, but it's kind of.. I dunno. It's poetry but very literally written and almost just prose. A matter of taste is all, but it's just not my favorite kind of thing.

After looking it over a couple of times I realized that it might be a little too long to be poetry. So it might be prose..

I watch the News all of the time, and I don't remember seeing it.

Don't get me wrong; I love Pink Floyd. Especially Post-Barret Pink Floyd (Nothing against Barret, it's just the lyrics got a lot better once Roger Waters took over. Matilda Mother and Astronome Domine, among others, were awesome.).

It's just, when you think about it...They're not really all that talented. They play simple songs in general, with a slow tempo. It's the lyrics that make them awesome. Plus, of course, the sly use of synthesizers and the fact that they can crank out a catchy, easy-to-play tunes like no other (Except maybe the White Stripes, but the White Stripes aren't quite as deep lyrics-wise.). They're the first Rock group I ever took an interest in. The first album I ever owned was The Wall. I love them with all my heart.

But Rush seems to be a lot more talented. Sure, some of their stuff is kind of "gay" (They used to wear leotards for The Spork's sake!). But all in all they've cranked out some really cool stuff. Of course, you have to be pretty much a professional musician to be able to play any one of their songs (Except maybe Tom Sawyer), and a lot of people don't like how Geddy Lee sings (I think he's really good; it's a matter of opinion), but still...

Meh, I love them both. Along with thousands of other bands...

WHAT?!?

How can you hate Rush, U2, and Dave Mathews Band?!? And yet you like Pink Floyd?

Oh well, as Geddy Lee himself said,"You either like Rush or you don't. It seems like there's not much of a grey area."

U2 is awesome. Religious, yes, but still awesome.

Dave Mathews Band, though it seems to be a bit self-centered (I have a natural disposition towards bands that include the name of the singer and no one else. The Jimi Hendrix Experience is another example of this.), but it makes up for it with very beautiful songs. Have you ever heard "The Dreaming Tree"? Incredible song...

Then again, I'm really lenient in my musical tastes. I like anything from Bob Marley to Green Day.

I don't see what liking Pink Floyd has to do with liking Rush, U2, and DMB. xP One is good and the others, in my personal opinion, simply aren't. xD
I like a pretty good range, generally things more like rock and electronic but some random rap and other things too. I guess I'm just picky about certain bands >.o

Back on topic though, I put a bunch of information in my journal that I did for something that started out as a role play idea. I've been writing some actual stories and posts for it. So I'll post those sometime when I get it together >.>
