Jacob "Jac" Fayden McClain

Jac was a bit surprised at the information that she wanted to be a biology major. He had not pegged her for the science type. "Me? I don't really do anything really..." He honestly had no clue what his hobbies were. So much of his life had been dictated and morphed around his gang and their wants and needs. He knew what he was good at, but not what he actually liked to do. He enjoyed a good fight, but how could he phrase that. "Boxing maybe?" he said to himself, but out loud as well. He had no idea how to box, but he knew how to fight. "I guess I like to run and swim. I was in track and field when I was in high school, and one year on the swim team." This was true, but when home life hit the fan, everything dropped and he never finished his junior year. His shoulders slumped, remembering his father's words the day he got kicked out. 'There are NO FxxK-Ups in house! No Faliures allowed in this family!' 'Well then what the hell are you doing here dad?!' he had returned, and was rewarded with a fist to the side of the head. He still had that scar, on the left corner of his brow at the corner of his eye.

Delia was watching the ground ahead of her again, but now and then she would look up at Jac and smile. "Swimming's fun. That's one of the reasons this town interested me: it's right by the beach." She sighed contently at the thought of swimming, and though she knew the weather would get considerably colder during the winter, she still looked forward to seeing the foamy waves wash over the sandy shores. It was like a perfect paradise to her. She snapped out of her mini daydream to look at him again, holding up her hand to block streams of stray sunlight that peered through the trees as they walked. It would be nice if she had her sunglasses right now. "So how old are you now? Did you enjoy any classes in particular in school?"

Jac nodded. The beach was a nice thing, though he had only been a few times and when he was much younger, when his mother was alive. "I'm twenty-one. I'll be twenty-two in December. And no, I didn't like school that much. I liked the after school activities while they lasted, but I hated school itself. I usually ditched." He said this as if it were a normal thing. He looked around as they walked, noting landmarks and street names for future reference. "You?"

Delia smiled, quietly laughing at herself. She wasn't sure why, but she suddenly felt rather stupid. At his question she looked up again and shrugged. "School was...okay, when I wasn't getting picked on. I loved art class the most, but I need to take more science classes if I want to become nurse. I feel like being a nurse would help more people than just painting a bunch of pictures would." She had no idea why she was telling him all this, but for some reason, she felt one hundred percent comfortable around him. Safe, even. It was a strange, definitely new feeling, but she didn't linger on the thought too long, for the smell of something cinnamon wafted their way and she sniffed the air happily. Delia's stomach grumbled hungrily. "I could so go for some cinnamon swirl bread right now," she said as they neared the bakery. She had been an idiot to think a tiny protein bar would tide her over.

Jac was not surprised by this new information. It made sense now. "A nurse, huh? that's... admirable. When I was little, I wanted to own a farm. Not so much any more. A ranch maybe, up in Washington would be nice." He chuckled at himself, then looked at Delia, "Raise some buffalo. A bunch of dogs, couple of horses." He looked back ahead of him and smelled the cinnamon too. He was reminded that he had not eaten at all this day. "That does sound pretty good." He agreed.

Walking up to the bakery, he opened the door and peered inside. He then pulled back out and looked next door. "Ooooh, Coffee!" there was a small coffee shop, one of the privately owned, small businesses Delia said were better. He wanted to put that to the test. He turned to her, "You get the bread, I'll get the drinks? What do you like?"

Marina Elemento
Haha, why? And also, whats the month? You pick.

Delia's smile brightened. She hadn't expected to hear such a humble dream from him, though she had just met him in the first place. She supposed she shouldn't have judged a book by its cover, but sometimes she couldn't help to. When they approached the bakery, Delia couldn't help but to giggle a little bit at his excitement over the coffee. She nodded then paused to think for a minute. "Something with lots of whipped cream," she said finally with a small, childlike smile.

She couldn't help but to be a little pleased with herself when she strode through the bakery door (this time not tripping like an idiot). The little bell on the door rang, and the woman behind a glass counter with a rack of colorful cakes greeted her. "Hello there, miss, what can I get you today?" The woman asked with a friendly grin. "A loaf of cinnamon swirl bread, please. And some sugar cookies." she added, noticing the cutely decorated cookies on the shelf.
She paid the woman and waited patiently for the food. When it finally came out, the loaf was wrapped up and put in a bag, the cookies in another. Delia took them both and her mouth watered when she felt they were still warm. "Fresh out of the oven. Best in town." The lady at the counter assured her.

"Thank you very much," Delia replied happily, before turning to go find Jac again.

Jac walked into the coffee shop and nearly melted when the smell of roasted coffee beans hit him. He took a deep breath in through the nose, taking in the smell. There was one other person in line, so Jac waited patiently. His attention was drawn to the walls of the coffee shop. they were covered in what looked like kids' renditions of famous paintings and original art pieces thrown into the mix. he tilted his head, wondering where all these framed forges came from. he got his answer. The server behind the counter called to him, "Those are all paintings and pastels from the family arts center here in the shopping center." She curly haired woman informed. "What can I get for you today?" Jac came up to the counter, "Um, I'd like a pumpkin spiced coffee I guess, and ... Something with a lot of whipped cream?" He raised an eyebrow in question, asking for her suggestion. "Hot or cold?"
"Hmm... Cold." He figured he would give her the coffee if she wanted hot.
"Then I recommend the java chip."
"Sure. Both medium please."

He paid and waited for the drinks, watching the street from the window. When Delia passed by he straitened and watched her. Just as she reached the door, the drinks were called out and he went to fetch them. He grabbed them and turned to face Delia, handing her the cold, brown beverage with chips of coffee bean and chocolate chunks just small enough to fit through the straw, whipped cream galore. "There ya go. Try that. S'called a Java Chip."

Oh yeah... Well, that's how "Bad Boys" are made I guess lol

Delia met Jac and smiled at him. "Thank you," she said before taking a sip of the drink. It tasted like heaven in a cup, just as she had expected. It was much better than the coffee at home, in any shop and the stuff her mom made. It was cold, and fresh and indeed filled to the brim with whipped cream. She licked her lips and let out a content sigh. "So good. I'll have to make daily trips here from now on," she said, taking another sip. "How's yours?" The mixture of aromas that floated out on the street now, between the coffee and the fresh bread was just tantalizing. Delia held up the paper bag with the loaf of bread in it. "Should we find somewhere to sit?" She threw a glance at the little circular tables that were in front of the coffee shop under the awnings.

Jac sipped his coffee, tasting the pumpkin. "Mine's good." He answered, taking another sip. He followed her gaze and nodded, making his way outside and sitting at one of the little round tables. He set his cup down and eyes the bread bag. He was very hungry now that bis stomach had been teased with the coffee and the delicious smells. He stifled a yawn, finally feeling like he was waking up the rest of the way, the magic of caffeine.

There was a light hint of music floating in the air and Jac lifted his head, tilting it to hear what it was and where it was coming from. It was something that he strangely recognized that he was sure very few others would. "Huh, this plays Caravan Palace over the sound system. That's interesting." knowledge of music was a strange trait for one involved on gang matters, but Jac found that music was the only thing aside from smoking and drinking that could calm his nerves. When it was available to him, he would check as much music as he could. he found that he liked almost everything out there, with a few exceptions.

Marina Elemento
I cannot make this character without my love of music! XD. Since I am seemingly constantly subjecting you to mine, go ahead and feel free to show me some stuff you like if ever you feel the urge. I collect music.

Delia sat down with him, set her drink down and opened up the bag and unwrapped the bread, placing it on top of the flattened paper bag. The sweet scent of cinnamon found its way to her again and she sighed happily. Luckily it was already cut, so she took a slice and nibbled on it happily. It tasted even better than it smelled, if that was possible. At his remark about the music, Delia tilted her head slightly and listened to the swingy little tune, swaying back and forth slightly as she did so. "Caravan Palace? It sounds cool... I like it." She smiled; she had never heard the song before, but it was a nice little instrumental, setting the scene of the morning glow. "So you like music then? What kinds?" she asked curiously, taking another sip of her drink.

Jac watched the passing people, unable to keep his thoughts of how easy some of them would be to pick pocket and purse cut out of his head. When Delia pulled the bread out he took a slice after she did and bit a piece off. It tasted really good. He took another bite and sipped his coffee before answering with a shrug. "I like most types of music. All music is a way of expression through something that connects with people on a deeper level than just conversation." Whoa, where did that come from?! He hadn't spoken like that since freshman year in high school! He shocked himself. A bit unnerved by his reversion into his prepubescent mentality, he went quiet and sipped his coffee.

Delia finished her slice of bread contently and licked her fingers. She listened to his little spew on music and it brought another smile to her face. "I completely agree," she replied, a little surprised to hear that kind of thing coming out of his mouth. He seemed so quiet, not necessarily emotionless, but he had that "loner" persona about him that made Delia want to crack open that facade and peer inside. "Music is great. My dad used to tell us that music was the key to opening ones soul and seeing the universe around them." She laughed quietly at herself and her gaze fell to her feet. That was back before her parents divorced, which at the time, hadn't been that big a deal, but that was also around the time her social life wasn't the best it could have been. Blinking for a moment and returning back to reality, she sipped her drink and licked her lips.

Jac nodded. What was this chick doing to him? He felt more at ease around her, more like he did when he was younger. That was dangerous. Call it paranoia, but Jac felt like if he let his guard down, he'd be dead before the week was out. he needed to keep himself in check. "Yeah, musics pretty sweet. Can't play worth a damn, but that don't stop me from listening." He finished his slice and leaned back in the chair, coffee in his hand. After the Caravan Palace song finished, Lily Allen came on next. This was coffee shop status, if slightly questionable. "So whats next around here to check out? Any music shops?" He was still on that topic. He did not expect her to know, but maybe being at a college she would have picked up some places. After all, she knew about this bread place.

Delia found herself unable to stop smiling again. She probably looked ridiculously happy right now, but she couldn't help it. She tried forcing a more casual frown as she took another long sip of her drink. A tiny stray chunk of ice slid down her throat and she shivered absent mindedly as she thought for a moment. "Actually, I think there might be an old record shop somewhere in town," she replied, recalling the the map she'd looked at a few days before arriving in town. The vintage record shop was somewhere near a park trail that lead to the beach, which is probably why she remembered it that way. "Wanna go check it out?" Delia asked, wrapping up the bread again and nestling it safely in her bag.

Jac raised his eyebrows at the mention of an old records store. "Mmmh," he swallowed his mouthful of coffee, "Yeah, lets go there." He finished the rest of his drink and stood, walking over to a trashcan and tossing it in. "Lead the way. I don't know where I'm going." He needed to invest in a map or something. Also a laptop of a sort. He would need one eventually.

His thoughts drifted back to is friend, Claudio. He honestly hoped he was alright. he wanted to go back for him. Claudio had never gotten mixed up in any gang, and did not deserve to be getting the rap for Jac's heat. He scratched his head nervously, trying to get those dangerous thoughts out of his head. Going back would be suicide, especially so soon. Maybe in a month or so he could risk it, but not now. he hoped Claudio could survive that long. It burned his blood that Birch would send the gang on someone unaffiliated, but then again, being friends with Jac was being affiliated in a way. He looked around him, suddenly paranoid. Would he inadvertently get Delia into trouble? He was not sure of they were even close enough to matter, but what if something did happen. he would like to think that he would not be weighed down by it. After all, they had only met yesterday. If he did already have eyes on him, they should be able to see that.

Now he was rethinking is choice in friendship. This girl would definitely not be able to handle herself if she got mixed up in his mess. His nerves were working again, and he pulled out his cigarettes.
