Addie sighed as she entered yet another class. The first year was so sick of classes and learning she could just puke. She glanced around the greenhouse and saw sitting by herself was Snowflake. The brunette walked over to the Ravenclaw and plopped down next to her. "Hi Snowflake. How's it going?" She greeted the shy girl cheerfully. Soon class began and the scary professor began talking. He seemed intense and Addie couldn't help her distaste for someone so harsh. He demanded them to introduce themselves and when the young brunette's turn came she stood and confidently told the room her name and house, "Adaline Davenport, Gryffindor." When she was finished she quickly sank back into her seat.

Location: Herbology (Friday 2:00pm – 3:00pm) Grace entered the greenhouse for her last class of the year. Aside from potions, herbology was the next class she was most interested in. Professor Hill seemed pretty strict and rather scary. However, Grace wasn’t going to be afraid of that. Her sisters would so why should she. Besides he was a professor he wouldn’t do anything that terrible besides possibly detention for not doing what he asked. The first year really had no need to worry. Hearing her housemate Selina once again answer the question given to the class, Grace believed she possibly could add to it. As such she stood and said, “I believe my classmate is correct. I’m Grace Mitchell, member of Ravenclaw house sir.” She said introducing herself. “To elaborate, the tools one would use would be fertilizer such as mooncalf dung and dragon dung as well as dragonhide gloves, earmuffs, shovels and our wands among other things.” Grace added before once again taking a seat. Status: He seems different… compared to our other professors… With: class… Wearing: Ravenclaw Uniform OOC: ---Lily the Rabbit Well you certainly know what you want. And I won't argue with such a mind as yours. Ravenclaw!

”Also probably a good pot… and some live plants, sir.” Dante chimed in not too late after. Smiling to the Herbology Professor, Dante stood and held his hand up to draw the man’s attention. ”Dante Bianchi, from Gryffindor.” The boy wasn’t sure where he stood in terms of Herbology class… plants had never really interested him, but there were all sorts of weird and gross plants that he knew they would be able to play with in the future, which, needless to say, Dante was looking forward to.

She read the board and looked to the man, already fearing that she would get in trouble a lot. When they were told to introduce themselves, she stood, looked down and said, "I'm Ceri... uh, Davies. I'm in Hufflepuff." She nodded, then sat back down. She listened to the answers from the rest of her class. Shrugging, she quietly added, "Shears too. Gotta prune the dead away." She wasn't about to speak up though, because that would call attention to herself. {συт σf ¢нαяα¢тєя: ...}

Jason allowed himself a small smile and nodded at the students answering, however thinking that they all didn't need to answer at once. Deciding that he'd heard enough suggestions, he held up his hands. "All of those are correct answers, though Miss Grey is correct about your own senses being the most important. Never forget the importance of looking, feeling, and yes, even smelling plants to see if they require anything from you. While some plants love a lot of attention, there are others that that will quickly kill if you don't pay attention to the plant's cues, which are leaf colour, colour of spikes, whether the plant is drooping or feels softer than usual, and so on. Any of these things can easily pinpoint an ill plant, and depending on exactly what has been done or not done, will determine what needs to be attended to, even if that something is to leave it alone in some sunlight. Now, as I stated earlier, I heard many different people answer, and considering that I feel to be in a giving mood, will award each ten points for who actually responded. For those that didn't, I assure you that you had better have listened to your classmate's answers."
He looked over the class and put his hands behind his back. "There are many other items that are useful for herbology, but the ones everyone stated are the most important ones. We shall learn more about the different tools as the year progresses. For now, to leave this lesson off, write down your homework for the evening. You are to write a ten inch paper on what tools you can discover that can be used, how they work, and how they benefit plants. They will be due next class when you enter."

Jason entered the classroom and strode toward the front, his head erect and his his eyes focused as he quickly set up the classroom. Looking things over, he nodded and settled back to wait, his arms crossed as he watched the students enter. When the last students entered, he flicked his wand, causing the door to close and lock.
He then settled his gaze at the students assembled. "Hello, and welcome back. Last lesson, we happened to discuss the various tools you will be using in this class, while this class we shall go ahead and start with a basic plant that is found in many gardens in the wizarding world. The spiky bush. As you can see, I have set several bushes on the tables before you. I would like for each of you to pull on your dragonhide gloves and please gather to them four at a time. This way, we can all see what exactly I happen to be showing you."
Jason pulled on his own gloves and approached the plant on his own table. "As you may not know, spiky bushes happen to be a highly aggressive species of plant, with long thorns that give these bushes their names. The thorns on these bushes happen to be yellow, while the thorns of wild spiky bushes are more of a brown colour. The one distinction between domesticated spiky bushes and their wild cousins aren't in the colour of their thorns, but in what they do with them. These bushes when domesticated can shoot their thorns at what they perceive as threats. This makes spiky bushes ideal for owners that wish to keep intruders out of their gardens. The bushes before you have been hit with a Stunning Charm, which means they will not attack. However, should you notice the bush start to shiver, please inform me so I can recast the spell. I wish for each of you to gently move aside the foliage of each plant and try and locate one of these thorns, like this." The older wolf deftly pushed aside a bit of the foliage, stopping finally when he found one of the thorns in question. He showed it to the students and then nodded toward the bushes he set out. "Now you try. I will be coming around and watching you to ensure the plants are uninjured and that you are using the proper technique to minimize both damage to yourself and the bush."

Text.
The warm confines of the greenhouse were a welcome from the cold and drafty halls of the castle. Still the bracing cold breeze helped to clear the cobwebs of sleep from Selina's mind. She, of course, took care to arrive early for class, not wanting to be faced with a locked door and the inevitable snickering by classmates whom desired for her to be brought low.
Already there was the more tolerable of the Bannister brothers, whom she gave a slight smile and a wave to.
Once class started, Selina was glad to discover they would actually be getting their hands dirty in this class, well, figuratively, anyway, as they'd be wearing gloves, and a good thing too as they'd be handling spiky bushes. Mother Grey kept a few of the plants around her property, to drive off intruders, naturally, and because the thorns had their uses in certain potions. The elder Herbologist and Potionsmith never let Selina handle the plants on her own, so this would be her first time working with them.
While keeping a sharp look out for any sign of the plant becoming active, Selina began to gently brush aside the foliage in her search for the thorns Professor Hill spoke of. Taking care not to cause harm to the bush, she spotted what the professor told them to look for. A quiet smile of satisfaction was all she allowed herself.

XXXXXXXXHarper walked into the greenhouse feeling rather chipper, though intent to keep her mouth shut. She loved herbology and she couldn't bare the thought of not succeeding at it. Her mother was a Herbologist and loved every part of it and if Harper couldn't do it...well she simply couldn't deal with that thought. She listened closely to every word Professor Hill said, even if the man scared the living daylights out of her, but then again many people did. She was a bit of a wimp despite how she sometimes acted. She put on her gloves after the professor had finished speaking and moved around the plant, examining every inch of the plant. She made sure she was gentle, that was something her mum had taught her years ago, she always had to focus on the safety of plant. In a few moments she found the thorns and looked at them closely with a bright smile. Maybe she really did had a gift for this. {ooc; let the courtship begin!}

In fact, when she saw the plant in question for today's lesson, she let a small smirk crawl onto her face. Her stepmother favored the spiky bush for ensuring that Ceri stayed out of her garden. The girl had gotten adept at removing the thorns so that she could sneak some of her stepmother's raspberries. Sitting down at her desk, she listened to the Professor's speech, recording her notes in her parchment. When it came time for the practical portion, she pulled on her gloves. Then she began to deftly hunt through the foliage and remove the spikes from the plant. She was careful not to remove too many too fast, in case she woke up the plant. Once she had several in her hand, she sat back and watched the Professor. {συт σf ¢нαяα¢тєя: ...}

Jason took a seat on the table in front of the greenhouse. He watched as the students filed in, and he crossed his arms as he waited for everyone to find a seat. This was his first class with the students, and he wanted to be sure that they understood what was expected. Otherwise, he figured there would be a lot of tears and frustrations. As well as students being kicked from his class until they listened to instruction.
As the last students filed in, he flicked his wand, the doors shutting and locking immediately before he stood. His eyes bored into the children before him. "My name is Professor Hill, and I am your Herbology instructor. For those of you that will not read the rules on the board, I will repeat them now. Lateness will not be tolerated as I will lock the door when class begins. If you should not listen to instructions, I will remove you from the greenhouse without hesitation. Any harm befalling any of the plants in this greenhouse will result in me removing you from the greenhouse immediately. You will behave as civilized individuals or you will suffer the punishment befitting your misconduct. All assignments will be turned in on time or I will dock points from your house for it. And last, you have any disagreements with me, you will be shown the door and I will not hesitate to flunk you for that portion of the course. Is any of that unclear?"
The werewolf waited for confirmation that everyone understood the rules of the class before he started in with his lecture. "For our first class, we will discuss the basics of the subject, and familiarize yourself with working with living things. Whereas most of your other classes do not involve dealing with living organisms and only with dead specimens, this class is the exception. Every plant in this greenhouse is alive, and I intend to keep them that way, which means that you will be proficient wit the basics before we go into the actual courseload. Now, please stand and introduce yourself. Name and house are the only information necessary."
"Now, down to a real question. Anyone know what the basic tools are that are used for Herbology? Ten points for the student that can list them accurately."

Let's say sunshine for everyone. But as far as I can remember- We've been migratory animals... Living under changing weather. Someday we will foresee obstacles. A S T E R I A C E C I L Y F R E Y first year │ gryffindor │ muggleborn
Aster was not a 'plant person'. She definitely didn't possess a 'green thumb'. If her thumb was a plant, it would probably be dead and rotting away, to be honest. Ew. Cool. Zombie thumb. She eyed the plant guy, their 'Herbology' professor. She wasn't stupid; she knew what herbs were. Her mum grew them sometimes in a little planting box in the window. She'd never been very interested in them, so she did not have high hopes for this class. But Plant Guy looked hardcore. She imagined him as some medieval assassin bloke. His hair was impressive, anyways. She tuned out most of what he said, but listened in at the end. Points? Points sounded good. She'd be the hero of the hour. Her hand shot up. "Gloves," she said immediately. "And a trowel, and pots, and dirt, and fertilizer..." She struggled to think of anything else. "And a watering can?" Through the blizzard, through the blizzard... Today we will sell our uniform! Live together, live together- We played hide and seek in waterfalls; We were younger, we were younger.

Both arms stretched out wide in front of him as he sucked in a fresh breath of air, the earthen scent of puffapods, bouncing bulbs, wormwood, and dittany, it all smelled like home. His father was a herbologist, so Tristan had seen many of these specimen, but there were many more he couldn't identify and that only served to pique his interest more. He hardly even noticed the professor at the forefront of the greenhouse, nor that uncannily familiar scent which, he decided, probably wasn't anything important anyway. Tristan plopped himself down on one of the tables at the far end of the greenhouse, nearest the glass walls and a flowering bed of moly, identifiable by their black stems and white flowers. Settling into his seat and glancing at the rest of the students, he finally turned an eye toward the daunting professor. His eyes lowered and his head tucked in out of instinct, not that he understood why. It took him a moment to shake off the odd, dwelling feeling in the pit of his stomach and spurred himself forward to dig through his rucksack for a notebook and pen, (screw those quills, they're hard, and it's 2029 for bloody's sake.)
