Tho Mai does get pretty pissy w/ Joey for not saying that she was his friend in the cartoon during the uh... God Card tournament thingy... sweatdrop
Anyway, I figured that the cartoon had cut all the sweet stuff... but I guess I'll have to see... & maybe his immaturaty will loosen her up a bit. Sometimes maturity means having a stick up your butt and it's nice to be around someone who's not quite as serious...
Then again, I don't know Mai too well...

Haha, I love how this is turning into a couples debate!
I have to agree with Tesah on this one. Valon and Mai are way too similar. I've seen the emo couples, they never last long. They'd just wallow in their own rediculous drama until one of them couldn't take it anymore. I think they could be friends, but I don't see them working it out in another relationship. Joey & Mai balance each-other out more like Tesah said. It makes more sense to me for them to have a lasting relationship.
I guess my arguement is that opposites attract.

That's not why Mai got mad at Jounouchi. It's because eariler when she started talking about the reason why she helped Jounouchi back in duelist kingdom (During the ep with Magnum) He blew her off for a poster of an actor. Then when he realized she was in danger did he do anything that showed attention. Now looking at it from Mai's perspective she's traveling with a group that goes on and on about the Heart of the Cards and Friendship. Ok fine. Up until this point Mai has not seen actually direct magic. Everything she's seen can be written off as non magical. The God Cards are treated as the moment they are summoned to the field anyone can actually sense raw power coming from them. Now given the system more then likely a fake card should not register into the duel field. (Because she hasn't seen the Fake Exodia deck she doesn't know that fake cards can be read and used like real ones). The first time she sees a god card in action it's during Yami's duel against Bakura, so the impression is of awe, she's in the presence of a god and therefore yeah she should be in awe at Osiris. But Ra is different, when Rashid summons the fake Ra, Ra gets angry and strikes both Jounouchi and Rashid down. It's the difference between being in the presence of royalty and being the focus of a very angery royalty. You're going to be afraid. When Jonouchi is explaining how he survived what he says is very immature. He's more concerned about looking tough in front of Mai then of what he's saying. Which broken down comes to 'You're not my friend and I don't need you.' That's why she's angry, she feels used, since she gave up her place in Duelist Kingdom (Gave Jounouchi a title shot) and he turns around and says she's not important. Mai has lived with the belief that she's alone for a very long time, and what she needed was for Jounouchi to confirm for her that she is part of the group, and that her time alone was over. What he did instead was create a feeling that he used her to get the money for his sister's surgery. That's why she turned on him. He didn't think to lie in a way that would make her feel important, like say; he saw her outside and was going to meet her. You know something to make her feel like she's part of the gang. He just automatically said something that ended up making her feel used and hurt.
Now with Valon, he does nothing 'but' support Mai. He gives her what he considers a good shot at beating Jounouchi because he wants her to be happy. In fact I don't think he's dead serious all the time, he's probably got a playful side to him. After all if you haven't noticed he has a similar character design to Yugi. (Mildly spiked hair to Yugi's outragous spikes, wears leather like Yugi does, and is devoted to those he cares about like Yugi). But as for being like Mai I can't agree. Mainly because it's very cruel to Mai and very unfair for her character. Through out the series including the manga, Jounouchi and gang has been through one magically induced stunt after another, sealed in Game pieces, Cards, Mind Control, Shadow Realms you name it. Each eperience was always as a group, and the support of knowing that they're not alone. Mai's first experience was literally solitary confinment in a sand clock that was going to drown her if Yugi didn't win the tourny in a certain amount of time. Now that alone is very tramutizing, but the fact that Jounouchi had convinced her that she 'was' alone meant that her first experience with Magic was alone, and forced to endure her worse fear. Not to mention that it's magic induced tramua, not something that you can actually talk to a shrink about. Valon is in love with Mai, but she's got all these problems that all seem to focus around Jounouchi. So he does what anyone would do for the one they love. He goes after the source of Mai's problem, if Jounouchi's involvement in Mai's life made her into this emotional wreak then he's going to go after Jounouchi and take Jounouchi down, or help Mai take him down so that Mai can move on with her life. Longwinded Ne?

^ *claps* That was very well-thought out and well-put. I'm very impressed. 3nodding And I admit; while I almost never get angry at Jounouchi, I really just wanted to chuck something at his head when he told Mai she wasn't in his dream. It's hard to imagine how such a simple act of immaturity caused so many problems.

Wow! *applauds aswell*
You make a great arguement. & I do see a lot clearer now why people support that pairing. Mai would definitely be better off with Valon! o_o but I still just don't think they would make a good couple. I think he tries to be too mature for her, and kind of clingy. I agree he's really good for her since he only seemed to want to help her through her issues, but I don't think he would ever make her happy. Even if she could forget about jounouchi, Valon is so needy. =( I know she needs to hear that she is appreciated sometimes, but I think she is still too independent to be happy with him. I mean she did spend most of that arc running from him after-all. It seemed pretty clear she just needs her space sometimes, and I don't think he understands that... Jounouchi's insensitive idiocy can be worked on, however. I think he understands her more than valon (mainly because he's never chased her off), he's just a moron.
But this whole argument is hard to make either way since it mostly has to do with Mai's interactions with characters while she was semi-possesed by evil.
whoa, and after thinking about this so long it's reminded me of satan's situation in southpark. It's like Mai is satan trying to choose between sadam(joey) who he has a lot of history with, but who's hurt him and knows he just will again, and His new boyfriend Jeff(valon), who's obviously better and more sensitive to his feelings, but is simply suffocating.... XD This is eerie Anyway, I respect your opinion. You've obviously put a lot of thought into that arguement, and it makes sense! But now I don't think it would work between either of those couples in the long-run. I'd simply rather support her with Jounouchi since that is where her heart seems to be.

i like the anime better than the mange particularly because i never read the manga. lol. but ne ways i always like the "anime" of ne manga book because u get to see the chracters in color and get to hear their voices. getting to hear the chracters think their thoughts on the anime show is always another plus too. ^^ with yu-gi-oh its nice to hear the different voice for like ryou bakura and yami bakura. we dont have to imagine the difference of their voices.

I would love the anime more if I could get it on DVD Uncut.
But since it isn't out there, I prefer the manga since it's something Yu-Gi-Oh and it's being released. 3nodding

I like both of them for different reasons, although I saw the anime first. Which I can't find anymore. And the first time I heard Yugi speak, i fell in love. (When he was talking to his grandad, and he tilted his head to the side with wide eyes and said 'tomo...dachi...?' ::squees smile Ogata Megumi is my second favourite seiyuu of all time, because of this, right behind Seki Tomokazu.
The anime has colour, and sound, and it's nice to relax to it sometimes without having to think too deeply.
I like the manga, on the other hand, because there's more to it. It has deeper and wider implications which aren't covered in the anime. The characters are more 'human' with more human foibles, and I love the manga for that.
The manga is something I can curl up to in bed on the weekend and relax with.

Ougata Megumi is awsome. X3 She makes a cute Yuugi, but I think I'll always prefer her as Kurama from Yuu Yuu Hakusho. I also think I prefer Kazama Shunsuke's version of Yuugi over Ougata's, though both sound adorable. X3

I fell in love with the show orginally, but the comic just had some depth that the show didn't, it more of Kazuki's personal style. The show had it's own style too...but I dunno Usually I prefer the manga if that's where the show came from originally. If not, vice versa.

Yea, that makes sense. ^^
It's so hard for me to choose though. O_o
I do know that my favorite part in the manga were the first seven books before Duelist. They were so refreshing, I loved the stories a lot.
