Even so, we'd really prefer the spam threads not be kept at the top of the page by members talking in them.

It's like any other discussion forum on Gaia. The Mods prefer them to be left alone. 3nodding

Exactly. As soon as you start talking about something else in a spam thread, it makes it worse because it's just being bumped to the top every ten seconds. Take it to the chat thread, it's there for a reason! We will deal with the spam threads when we get online.
