If not, would anyone be open to a very awesome Pokemon RP? I was in a RP years ago that never got off the ground that was sort of a zombie apocalypse sort of thing (think 28 Days Later, only the Pokemon are the ones infected), and there were a lot of ideas and plot behind it that we never got to use. If there's enough interest I'd be happy to put it together!

Was this something anyone would be interested in? I understand Pokemon is something that's probably overdone or even "childish" but really, people of all ages play it, and one of my favorite things is crafting a more real-world version of it, where everything is just a little bit darker.

@Magni: Well, Mark Twain wrote about some fairly serious subject matter behind the veneer of levity or satire. Twain became an incredibly bitter person toward the end of his life.

@Raven: Welcome to the RPR, Raven!

@Dezte: I got back into Pokemon at 2nd gen remake since I stopped playing at 2nd gen originally. I'm not too big on the idea of a Pokemon RP, to be honest, especially when made grittier.

That is the hope, Raven. *gluggles*

Dezte: Pokemon doesn't typically interest me. Especially since they went beyond the initial 151. Then again, a darker version piques my interest a tad. How dark are we talking? (images of a punisher-style character with bandoleers of battle-hardened monsters at the ready to lob like grenades)

Yoder: Yeah, well, I have not written a lot of his work. Still, some of the show was quite poignant. One thing that was interesting was at the end, there was two Twains, one in white/cream, the other in black . . . the whole good and evil versions of a person. In this case, it was not 'evil' but cynical that personified the dark version. One of remorse and bitterness, though not rude. Interesting stuffs.

I only have due to many literature classes throughout the entirety of my schooling.
That's interesting about the 2 versions of him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpaRouocBes This is likely the most famous/infamous part of the whole film.

eek Quite the nightmare fuel. That masked character reminded me of SHODAN of the System Shock video game series.

It was an interesting take on the concept of Satan . . . "I can do no wrong, for I do not know what it is."

Yes, it is. I've not seen that idea done before, really.
Granted, the quieted nature of the 3 onlooking kids was rather funny.

In their position, I don't know if I would do any different. They got to see the creation of life, and then the brutal murder of the entire lot. That is a tad horrifying.

Maybe it was just the extreme juxtaposition that struck me as so odd, then. As in, it seemed liked a fairly normal program for kids before sudden;y taking a nose dive into really dark content.

Not all that different than the Don Bluth films . . . seemingly for kids, and then some seriously adult/dark issues come to light. In this case, there were religious overtones in several stories (this one, and the diary of Adam and Eve). The Bible is not always a kid-friendly tome.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 20, 2014 8:55 pm
Yeah, Bluth could be pretty dark, though I don't remember that much about Land Before Time and American Tale.

Oh, I am well aware of that fact. xp

Bluth was a wonderful example of darkness for kids. I always was impressed with Secret of Nimh where there was a swordfight with an agonizing death for the villian . . . sure they were rats, but yeah.

Oh, and when I found out NIMH was real? Jaw was on the floor.

What do you mean by Nimh being real?

The rats were experiments from a company named Nimh. Somebody thought it was a good idea to test drugs and treatments to expand mental capability. In the movie, they succeeded. There is a real institute called the National Institute of Mental Health. NIMH.

They are real. The rats, well, we'd never be told.
