Texas certainly is like an entirely different country. I will say that so far, everyone I've met has been exceptionally friendly; Floridians are not known for their kindness. xD

Hopefully you can move with your family, moving without them sounds awful!

Having to move ahead will be trying, so I hope you don't have to.

Oddly, I've had the opposite experience. Granted, I'm talking non-peninsual FL and the type of Texans who will not stop talking about how their state is better than the other 49, so that skews things I suppose.

Well, I think Dallas is such a melting pot society that I haven't met a lot of the scary "Grr our state is awesome!" people yet. And being from the Central east coast of Florida, we get all kinds of mean and grumpy Yankees that come down to escape the winter and never leave.

Yeah, in Tx we call them "Winter Texans" when they are in earshot . . . "Snowbirds" when they are not. I lived in a beach community, so all winter and fall we had to deal with an army of slow-driving old people, at least one in five had a mobile home that was larger than some of our physical homes.

Everywhere has their own local color. Certainly Tx has the militant lovers, but not everybody from there will be mean. For instance, a man I knew once said "Do not believe the license plates- Oklahoma is not OK." Similarly, I told my wife that we may have to move in stages, and the first might only be to Ohio. As a native Pennsylvanian, she looked disgusted that I dared to suggest moving to the next state over.

Twas funny to me.

Ah, being in a culturally diverse city helps a lot.
Well, I'm definitely a yankee, and we're definitely not knowing for being the most cordial. mrgreen

I'm by no means trying ti pigeonhole all texans that way. I've just met so many who exemplify the stereotype.
I personally don't hold much allegiance or fervor toward my state.

That's the odd thing about stereotypes . . . they exist for a reason. sweatdrop Positive or negative, they exist because such is a representative behavior for a given group.

Haha, hooray for stereotypes!

I've been up North a few times before, and even though I've met a few really friendly individuals, the stereotype does for the most part hold true. Just like how most of the South is known for being gun toting rednecks. biggrin

Then of course, my husband is Dutch, and I can't even tell you how many times he has been asked if they really do wear wooden shoes all the time in the Netherlands. >.<

@Magni: True enough.

@Twinkelen: That's more of a Bavarian custom than anything, but I guess a region can represent a whole people (even if Bavaria is part of modern Germany and not the Netherlands proper).

Enjoy your evening alone, Magni.

Well, have fun both of you.

I have seen mixed reviews, saying "ehhh" to "awesometacular." Me? I am definitely in the latter category. It made as much sense as any comic book is supposed to, yet I followed it easily. Frankly, I deeply enjoyed the film.

Ah, well that's good to hear. I enjoyed X 1-3, but the ones that came after that never really struck me as that good (I haven't actually seen anything after X3).
