Ever heard of DNRC? It stands for Dogbert's New Ruling Class, and is comprised of the smartest, sexiest, most sophisticated people on planet Earth. Yes, I'm a member, but don't worry, you probably could be a member too, as long as you're not that guy I saw this morning at the elevator.
I went up to the elevators and pushed the UP button. It had not been previously pushed. I know, because it was not yet glowing. When I pushed the button, it started to glow.
Another guy walked up and made as if to push the button. "I pushed it," I told him. He shrugged, pushed the button, and grinned as he told me, "Can't hurt." Now, that's true. It didn't hurt. But it did make him look stupid. See, those buttons only have to be pushed one time, because one time is enough to break the circuit and let the elevator mechanism know that someone wants the elevator. Pushing it one time is the same as pushing it a hundred times. It's all you need.
But that's not what makes this guy stupid. What makes him stupid is that four other people came up while we were waiting, and he told every single one of them, "I pushed it." Then he looked at me with the universally understood eyebrow-raise of get a load of this idiot. He seriously expected me to think of them as idiots, and yet somehow, not think of him as the same type of idiot that they were. I lifted my eyebrow back at him, but not in the "Yeah, I know" look. My eyebrow clearly said, "You're one to talk, eh?" because apparently my eyebrows are Canadian.
Anyway, I told you that in order that you'd understand what an inDUHvidual is, as opposed to an individual. An individual is just a person. An inDUHvidual is the walking punchline to the jokes that the universe tells.
