I'll get it eventually, but am in absolutely no hurry to play Fallout 4.

I'm currently gunning for Witcher 3. I've owned 1 & 2 for a while but didn't have a PC capable of playing them at college, and I want to beat those before starting 3.

I picked up a copy of Witcher 3 for Christmas, but it is on my backlog for now.

Right now, Emerald and Ruby weapons are my priorities.

Those FF7 weapon bosses can be tough, especially the optional ones.

Well, thanks to some careful planning and prep, and the built-in cheats, both weapons are dead now. Wewt.

Ruby was so much easier with master materia on my side.

Congrats. Oh, master materia are nice, but it takes a lot of work. Command, Magic, Summon, or multiple of those?

Using the Morph command on a specific enemy turns it into the "guidebook." Returning that to the Kalm Traveller gives you the underwater materia. That removes the 20 minute timer on your fight with Emerald Weapon. Defeating that green monstrosity gives you the "Earth Harp," which can be traded to the traveller for a Master Magic, Master Summon, and Master Command all at once.

Only one set, but without the detrimental effects to max hp and such, Cloud ended up a beast with all the kickass moves.

Oh, wow, I didn't know of that circumvention. Definitely a nice way to get those.

Yeah, killing Ruby gets you the Desert Rose item, which you can trade for a Gold Chocobo, allowing you to travel over the ocean and get the areas of the map that are inaccessible any other way. You can breed a series of chocobos to eventually get a Gold, but this circumvents that work.

Ah, gold chocobos, the holy grail of inbreeding. xp

Yeah, i didn' thave the patience for it this time. Just didn't want to breed the damn things.

I've never bothered. While the minigames/distractions in RPGs can be fun and a nice break at times, I'm usually in them for the primary mechanics (battle system).

I am in it for the story . . . so the diversion of raising fictional birds to ride over an ocean was never a big draw. However, the power payoff was great. When I destroyed Emerald, though, I no longer needed it.

That kind of side content is good for those who want a break from the story or mechanics, but thankfully most RPGs don't require them for advancement (or at least not beyond the basics).

FF VII is a perfect example. you do have to race a chocobo in the game once. However, it is not hard, and you are given all you need. Breeding them and raising a Golden one is not needed at all. The only real goal is getting the strongest summon in the game, of which is not needed in the slightest. It can make things far easier, but you can beat the game without such trinkets.
