When we went off away from the forest- We did travel far to get a taste of so much more. We dug up the roots of all the stories... Put them in a pot and brought them to a fiery roar! We fed on these things without a worry; Never gave a thought to the coming of the winter storm. Gone away, gone away, what was yesterday? Make a meal, make a bed, tuck your feet in- And resting elbows twice on a table can be nice; But the comforts, they can be deceiving. ᶜ ʸ ᴿ ᵁ ˁ ᴱ ᶻ ᴱ ᴷ ᴵ ᴱ ᴸ ᴸ ᴵ ᴸ ᴸ ᴬ ᴺ ᵀ ᴵ ᴺ ᴱ ᴾᵁᴿᴱᴮᴸᴼᴼᴰ │ ᵀᴴᴵᴿᴰ ᴮᴼᴿᴺ │ ˁᴸʸᵀᴴᴱᴿᴵᴺ │ ᶠᴵᴿˁᵀ ʸᴱᴬᴿ
It was awful, but it was true; Cy had no passion for history. His family seemed to hinge entirely on twisting, turning, shadowed history. Honestly, he was sick of hearing about so-and-so and that marriage and this marriage and who died and when and all the mistakes and triumphs. Half of it was probably utter lies, or at least exaggerations, anyways. He had no head for dates. That was Vander. And no wands? Boring. His interest was slightly piqued, however, by the question posed. He wanted to hear his classmates's answers. It'd give him a bit of a feel for them. Thus far, the only one to answer had been the pale haired Hufflepuff with the big, dark blue (or were they grey?) eyes. He tried to recall her name from the Sorting. Something Bailey. Her answer was fairly straightforward, and brief. He rested his chin on his folded arms on his desk, and waited for more to take the bait. Now the seasons are not what they once seemed- The berries all are green though the sun is at a fine high crest... We lifted our shirts up in a hurry- Reaching for the belly hollow from the long cold rest! We slept off all the fat, but they'll be no more of that, 'Cause there must be some disease 'neath the canopy! Swinging tails from trees, we can gather we need- Give away what we had a fair share of... And now the forks and knives with the sacrifice; With a pair only some can believe in.

xx❀ Clementine (Minnie) Fenwick ❀xx xxxx<Hufflepuff> ❀Your very first day ❀ Autumn 2030 ❀Take a deep breath girl ❀ you look fine. ❀Take a deep breath as you walk through the doors ❀ History of Magic I ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Minnie took a deep breath as she entered the classroom and spotting Emma slid into a seat next to her. Her housemate and roommate was so nice that Minnie had a feeling if she hung around Emma for long, not only would Emma not chase her off or be horrid, but Emma and her would probably be fast friends. The Sorting Hat surely got her house right. No offense to her family history of Slytherins or her sister in Gryffindor. She was happy just belonging which Hufflepuff did well for her (or did in her short time so far).
She smiled at Emma and as she sat down and then looked up to the professor. Professor Powell. She listened as he began, a bit relieved there would be no wand waving to this class. She was good at history. So history of the magical world would be fine. And interesting too probably. Well, all history was interesting to be honest. "But history also gives us a place to call home," Minnie offered in addition to Emma raising a hand, "It makes us who we are now and gives us character but it also gives us a place to return to that is simpler, or usually is. We need to study history so we can truly understand ourselves too." She ended with a smile.

Siobhan 'Hannah' Grey Hufflepuff │ First Year │ Eleven Years Old │ Single
Hannah arrived in the History of Magic classroom, and found her friend and Housemate Emma Bailey already there, along with a Slytherin boy named Cyrus. She sat down beside her friend, and waited for class to start. She was interested, though not to the degree her cousin was. Hannah also recalled Linny's blunt assessment of Professor Powell. 'He's a good teacher, make no mistake, however, he's not interested in your opinions, nor does he want a debate in his class. By all means, answer his questions if he asks them, but do not go any further into it than that.'
When Professor Powell asked his question, Hannah raised her hand, and ventured, "Because if we don't learn from history we'll keep doing the same stupid stuff we did before."

xxxxxMordred Taylor Seftonxxxxx 1st Year Ravenclaw ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Mordred walked into the classroom and took a seat near the back of the room, pulling out his quill and ink bottle, something his father insisted he learn to use. Mordred didn't understand the man, he'd like to act like he was some father and he actually cared what happened to his b*****d son (and he probably did), but he didn't care to have it publicized that he had a b*****d son. From what Mordred could figure Peter Avery's family was fairly strict and didn't like anything not "traditional". Well what better class to figure out what is "traditional" in the wizarding world than history of magic. He decided not to offer an answer but watch the others for now. Besides the girl in Hufflepuff with the blue-ish hair summed it up pretty well. So history doesn't repeat itself. Looked like the Hufflepuffs were on a roll with history class though. Good for their house and the girls.

Kai walked into History of Magic, feeling a bit anxious. He knew enough about history, though he wasn't sure how well he'd do in a class that was pretty much strictly just talking. Thankfully, it looked like by the time he'd arrived more than enough people had answered the question that the professor posed, which meant that Kai would be able to disguise himself in the back with little trouble, although noticed that there was one other student who had the same idea.

Savannah's swift entrance would have probably gone unnoticed, if it hadn't been for the chime of her heavily layered jewelry clinking together and the bold alterations to her uniform; the untucked blouse, rolled up sleeves, shortened skirt, spider accented stockings, and worn, leather combat boots. Her petite frame slithered to the rear of the classroom where already a Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff had staked out territory; Savannah left enough space for empty desks all around her, preferring the silence of solitude and the shadows of unprying eyes as she shuffled a deck of tarot cards and flipped them over on a celtic cross spread. She dreamt of this class, of these students, these questions and answers; she's heard them before and she'll hear them again, in many ways, in many tongues, of this day, and future days.

Having been stopped by another first year in search of a restroom in route to the classroom—a question to which he did his best to initially guess an answer to, but eventually ended up grabbing a taller student in passing to point his peer in the right direction—Liam was one of the last students to slip through the door. Seeing the lack of open desks near the front of the room where he might have already been seated if it were not for his helpful attitude, the Ravenclaw slipped through the desks toward an open seat in the back between Mordred and Savannah. The latter was more focused on a deck of cards in her hands than on the professor, though he couldn't tell if it was the same one that had tore away the whole of her attention during their journey across the Black Lake.
Forcing his eyes on the man at the front of the room, Liam withdrew a notebook and self-inking quill form his satchel next to his seat without even looking, and began to jot down every word from the teacher's mouth on a page he had already designated for this class weeks ago. With very little being said, the first question was posed, and it seemed that the badgers present jumped on the opportunity to answer, each reply contrasting to the others, but all arguably true.
The boy let the fingers of his right hand brush the edge of his notebook rhythmically, his dominant hand spinning his quill in unison. It wasn't a lack of interest in this topic that threatened to deflate his concentration, but rather the fact that he had already read the class textbook from cover to cover. Without the use of physical magic being an option, he doubted he'd manage to learn much more than the professor's personal opinions of history over the next school year. Judging, however, by the man's blatant lack of interest in his own profession, perhaps the opinions would have to come from his fellow first years, instead.

C O R I N N A R E N E E W I L L I A M S First Year │ Half Blood │ Ravenclaw
Cori walked into her first class, History of Magic. She wasn't much into history, as far as she knew, but was excited nonetheless: her first year at Hogwarts had now officially begun! Looking around the room, she saw several students already seated, but no Tamaki. Ah, well; she'd be in soon. Cori found an empty desk, set a seat or two away from some of the other students, wanting room to think but not wanting to be too distant, either. She pulled out her notebook and began to doodle an owl. She'd have to write to her parents later, before Astronomy, and find the Owlery so she could borrow a school owl.
As the last students took their seats the professor introduced himself and his subject, all the while looking at each student in turn. He seemed kind, and judging by the little book that was topmost on his desk, a dedicated reader. Corinna could respect that. His dark eyes settled on her for a moment, and she gave a small smile as a sort of greeting. His gaze moved on to other students, and Cori pulled out an empty notebook, ready to take notes, ready to learn about the wizarding world she knew so little of. The professor then asked why learning history was a necessity, and Cori took a mental stumble; she'd never considered it before. A few students, Hufflepuffs by their colors, gave some answers, and Cori supposed they offered up much the same that she might, and felt no need to raise her hand. Instead she shifted her little sketchbook to the top of her desk continued her doodling, considering the question all the while. Such a strong mind! Inventive and a daydreamer, Not to mention kind-hearted! Better be.... Ravenclaw!

Rhys slipped into the classroom silently, already looking for a good seat he could take where he wouldn't be noticed. He then took a seat next to a girl that seemed to be shuffling cards and laying them out. Not that he didn't like history, in fact, he'd read the book for class several years prior when he had managed to grab Kenny's book, but he just didn't think the class would hold his attention. Not when he'd read the entire thing from front to back and made his own notes on the subject. He still had the notebook he had filled up with his own notes on the book in his bag, and pulled it out to at least look like he was working. He sighed silently, deciding to look over at the girl who was still shuffling her cards and laying them out. He was suddenly curious as to what she was doing, and from all appearances, she was reading a fortune. How, he couldn't quite puzzle out quite yet. He bit his lip, debating with himself about asking what she was doing. It wasn't like he'd be talking in class, and any communication would be silent, after all. He reached into his bag and grabbed out his notebook for talking to other people and quickly scrawled out an introduction and question. Hi, I'm Rhys. You're doing a tarot reading, aren't you? Anything you can talk about, or just for fun? He then slid the book over to the girl's table, curious to see if she'd respond or not. There was always a chance that she wouldn't, after all.

A single fingertip grazed the center circle of her spread, two cards stacked atop one another to represent the present and the challenge—the knight of wands and the bleak ten of swords respectively—an audible gasp of breath stifled past her chattered teeth until her hollow gaze hung transfixed on the golden armored knight hidden behind dancing daggers, Savannah sat immobile until she noticed the heavy thirst for knowledge draining her attention. Liam, china blue eyes lingered on his countenance, stern and metaphysical as it was, a single scar stitched in gold across the brow had absorbed all of her focus until she caught herself staring. It bled a story, once upon a time ago, a story that reminded her now of home. Savannah licked her dry, chapped lips and dipped her head down to her cards, eyes seeing but not reading the rest of her fortune. She wouldn't begrudge a Ravenclaw of his learning, oh no, not even if she wanted to touch the gold that felt like home. She didn't rise her gaze from her spread until a silent, ghost of a boy had settled into a seat beside her, and though she could feel his gaze on the side of her face she didn't turn to face him until a sudden scrawl of handwriting on a notebook had reached the corner of her desk. ”Savannah,” she whispered, deciding she wasn't scared enough of the professor to pass notes and opted to whisper aloud instead, ”...these two cards begin the center circle of the spread, this is my present, this is now,” she gestured to the knight of wands, ”in my deck, this card represents energy, passion, love, action, adventure, impulsive. And this,” she fingered the ten of swords, ”is my challenge, or the problems of my present, this card is of back-stabbing, of defeat, crisis and betrayal, an ending, or a loss.” A pensive reflection clouded her eyes, but she blinked the fog away and hovered her fingers over the spread. ”The rest is,” she paused and pursed her lips, biding her time for a moment when the professor wasn't paying attention, ”...complicated.”

Why Dante would choose to sit in the front of any class was a question that only the magic gods themselves could answer… but of all the classes offered for the first years at Hogwarts, Dante had decided to sit in the front in History class. Realizing the weight of his error, by then it was too late to make any switches. So instead, Dante propped his head on his hand and kept his elbow on the desk, scrawling circles onto his parchment as he idly listened to the Professor and the other students. This was going to be a long, long class.

Sitting near the back, Esmée angled her body slightly, kicking her legs out as she crossed them while leaning one arm on the back of her chair. With her other hand, the young Slytherin gently twirled her quill between her fingers, letting the feathery edge tickle the side of her face as she waited impatiently for the class to begin. She’d been seated around some of the others – a girl who she could recognize from her own House, a few people from Ravenclaw, another boy from Hufflepuff - but not close enough for her to pay any mind to them. She also noticed that her brother Dante had chosen to sit in the front, for whatever ungodly reason given the boy’s lack of attention span, and only hoped that he’d at least get into some trouble in their first lesson so she could use it against him in the future.
Of course, when the class finally did begin, the girl couldn’t wait for it to end. By then Esmée had set her quill down and was drumming her fingertips against the edge of her desk, not even trying to mask the boredom on her face. At a little Hufflepuff’s answer to the Professor’s question, Esmée raised her hand, deciding to counter a little as she took Morven’s advice. ”We humans must be pretty thick then, given that history likes to repeat itself time and time again.” She added with a little half-smile.

Lynn sighed as she entered and took a seat near her sister. She wasn't sure what to make of this class yet, only that it was history, and she wasn't the most attentive person regarding history back in muggle school. She propped herself up with one hand and glanced over at Minnie, who seemed already to be making new friends. Now she was just waiting to see if Jazzy showed or not, or even anyone else in Gryffindor besides Dante. Which, she frowned a bit, studying him. Was he...? Oh lord, he was just doodling and not exactly paying attention himself. She covered her mouth, trying not to giggle as she just resumed her listening and not quite paying attention to the class. She was certain she could probably read the book and get the information that way later.

She was rushing and rushing down the halls trying to make sense of this school. Each door she opened seemed to be the wrong room. Dang her watch, it was set 20 minutes behind so she was running a bit late before she even realized it. She had only a few moments left before classes actually started, and she heaved a heavy sigh of relief when she finally entered the correct room. She was one of the final few to step through and take her seat. She could feel her heart attempting to slow itself down after her early morning cardo. Smoothing back her hair, trying to tame the frizz that was starting to be seen, she gazed around the class and saw minimal familiar faces. Although, to her left, a fellow Gryffindor she had met in the Great Hall after sorting was looking particularly less pink today. She smirked to herself as she recalled that fateful balloon drop. "I think you've still got a little pink..right here." She pointed to her own hair for reference and smiled at Dante. History was never her favorite subject, yes she tried to learn and pay attention but she never really caught a liking to it. Maybe with a friend or two, she could make this more fun. "It suits you though, I must say." She quietly complimented the young boy with a playful grin. There really wasn't any there, but getting him startled and out of his dazed state may be nice. She kept her eyes on the professor after her short little tease, as to not cause any disturbance that may draw his attention to the pair. She wouldn't dare stop Dante from his magnificent doodles.

As the number of circles grew on Dante’s parchment, the farther his mind was drifting away from the topic of the class until, for a brief second, all the boy could think about was admiring his work and filling the page. Almost thankful that a familiar voice brought him back into the real world, Dante turned to find himself looking at Marine, the Gryffindor girl with whom he’d shared a laugh during the feast. Dante grinned, reaching his hand up as if to check whether or not his forehead still had paint on it. ”I’m just saving it for later.” He commented with a playful wink. ”Just a little afternoon snack.
