You heard me. Rich white men had high heel shoes to fed their over-inflated egos by allowing them to stand just a little bit taller then the rest of the so called commoners. twisted

actually thats a myth, drawn from the lilliputian society of the book "gullivers travels" in which that was the case. however, there has never been any proof as to that being the case. except of course for nepolian, but he had a good excuse XD

"Although high heels originated as male footwear around 1500, since the late 1700s, men's shoes have had primarily low heels. The two exceptions are cowboy boots, which continue to sport a taller riding heel, and a brief resurgence in higher-heeled shoes for men in the 1970s[1](in Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta's character wears a Cuban heel in the opening sequence). Some shoe manufacturers now market heels with significantly larger sizes to accommodate men. Also, the Fall 2006 Dior Homme line by Hedi Slimane features 3.5 inch heels for men."

never trust wikipedia, it can easily be edited or created by anyone who wants to get a laugh. for all we know that could have been copied and pasted in from the evil twin of wikipeida, uncylipedia.

The only time I've seen Wikipedia in any way near accurate, it's with anime, since they're mostly edited by long-time fans. At least I've yet to see any inaccuracies, except maybe with, say, the Toonami version (which I'd like to see die a very slow death). So I basically wouldn't trust anything else it mentions unless it's 100% accurate. My father keeps going on about how Wikipedia people have messed up the genealogical side of it, and I'm inclined to believe him, as he's a stickler for accuracy, something I' ve inherited (although I do NOT share his love of genealogy sweatdrop ). So I'd rather see something NOT quoted in Wikipedia, with all due respect, Rei smile

High Heeled Shoe Musuem: The origin of the stiletto high heel shoe The high heel shoe in various forms has been around for a very long time. The inventor of the high heel shoe is currently a matter of debate. There are references and depictions of high heels back to well before Christ's time, and Egyptian butchers wore heels to stay above the messy butchershop floors. Around 200 B.C. Roman actors wore platform sandals called kothorni during their performances. The high heel shoe was also developed for use by Mongolian horsemen to keep their feet from slipping in the stirrups, a style that has evolved into the modern cowboy boot. These initial heel designs had a practical application.
The first time high heels were worn purely for vanity is attributed to Catherine de Medicis who in 1533 wore 2 inch heeled shoes from Florence at her wedding to the Duke d'Orleans to make her appear taller. In the mid 1500's the chopine which was a platform shoe sometimes up to 30 inches tall or more became popular in Italy, Spain and France. The Japanese geta which is an elevated clog like sandal was usually 3-4 inches high was also very common. In Europe the high heel up to 5 inches in height became quite popular over the next century. High heel shoes also became very popular with both men and women of French nobility, and were a sign of status at this point.
