Well RE1 was science fiction. Ghosts are Occult Fantasy. So the whole artistic genre would've already been different.

Well, unless someone said, "You have to buy Mikami's game or you lose your job" I don't see why I should do it.

I don't respect him because not only was he responsible for ruining the storyline of Resident Evil, but he even admitted that he didn't want to make the old REs as we know them. RE1, 2 and 3 were the best RE games, and he didn't want to make any of them. And he wouldn't have made them if Capcom hadn't forced him to.

Resident Evil was my absolutely favorite game series, and I'm very passionate about video games. So I don't see why I should respect the man who ruined my favorite franchise.
EDIT:
Canas Renvall
Not saying I don't love RE with a passion either, and not saying that I don't disrespect Mikami. But like I said. If a good game is a good game, who cares who made it? You can understand this analogy. It's like Michael Jackson music. You like his music still, right? If you just listened to the music and didn't know the freak he'd become, there's no issue. Same with this. So a horror game comes out that's really good. Who cares what else the creator did?

But the thing about Michael Jackson is, he didn't ruin anything. It's not like he said he never wanted to make Thriller, and now made a music video which ruined the Thriller legacy. It's not a very good analogy.

A better example would be... Let's say this "McG" director makes the new Terminator movie, and it's terrible enough to tarnish the Terminator legacy, then I won't have any respect for the director, and I'm not gonna bother watching his movies.

So Mikami tried to wipe out an entire race? Well, atleast we'll have his inevitable suicide to look forward to then. That is a bad way to put it.

Anyway, I have nothing against Mikami. So he ruined Resident Evil. Big deal. Yes, RE is an awesome series, but don't hate someone for ruining it. That's like hating Denis Leary because the latest season of Rescue Me wasn't as good as the others. Or hating Christopher Nolan for re imagining the Batman series.

Is it bad if someone wants to see Degeneration? It's just another movie. Just another action movie with zombies in it. Only it might actually relate more to the storyline than RE4 did.

Canas, don't forget the Gundam series, Outlaw Star, and Ruroni Kenshin.

Gundam! heart I loved Gundam Wing, Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket, and G Gundam the most. I want to give the original another shot sometime. I anticipated Toonami's airing, but at the time I was little disappointed. It didn't really get into it. sad

I watched Seed some, but I didn't like it. I don't know if I'm going to check out the new Gundam series or not...

On recommendations, I would highly advise Gundam 0080 for first-timers. It has a great story for a short series (6 episodes). It focuses on a child's view of war. The ending is so sad... crying

Funny, I saw the entire Outlaw Star series at Best Buy the other day! I want to buy it sometime. It was a great series even though I only saw Toonami's heavily edited version.

I also loved Ruroni Kenshin! It has a slow start, but the story gets really good later on (Specifically where he fights the man with the bandages. I can't remember his name... sweatdrop ).

As for Tenchi Muyo, I really liked the first two series (Tenchi Muyo! and Tenchi Universe), but despised Tenchi in Tokyo. I have all volumes of the original series.

And then don't forget YuYu Hakusho! It originally aired on Adult Swim, but since the content wasn't too risque, it got moved to Toonami after the cursing got dubbed over.

Last but not least, I have to thank Toonami for getting me into anime with Sailor Moon. heart

One of my favorite things about anime is that in many series, characters grow. Not many American cartoons have that quality...

Another good Gundam series was The 08th MS Team. It took a different look at Gundam, instead of the whole, 'I'm a child, I can pilot this better than people who have spent years in them.' It's about 12 episodes long, and it actually takes more than just one MS to take down an enemy. It has a pretty sad ending.

0083:Stardust Memory was pretty good too.
The last new Gundam Series I watched was Seed, it was alright, but not better than the others. Haven't seen any newer series because they don't air them in America.

For those with a 360 or an Xbox who are looking into Dead Space, a new issue of that animated comic has been released. Apparently, there's gonna be one more. Be sure to check it out!

Gundam 00 is actually pretty good, in my opinion. And good news for you Elliot, it's going to start airing on Sci Fi some time in November. I'm not sure if I'll watch it, just because I've always been a bit wary about dubs.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 27, 2008 2:39 pm

I'm all up for the dubs. I have more of a problem with subtitles, they're very distracting.

I'm not saying all dubs are bad, it's just that some of them have such horrible voice actors. I can read pretty quickly, so subs aren't really a problem for me.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 27, 2008 4:20 pm

Well, I haven't watched a ton of Anime, but one that I was hardcore about was Dragonball Z, and I had no problem with those voice overs.
I also used to watch the original Gundam Wing and that show had really good voice acting, I thought.

Yeah, those ones had some pretty good voice actors. I think it's really a lot of the newer ones that haven't been all that great.

Another reason why I watch subs is that a lot of the things I watch are fansubs of shows that are only out in Japan.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 27, 2008 4:43 pm

But you're not gonna see fansubs on TV.

That's what the internet is for.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 27, 2008 4:58 pm

So how are fansubs better than professional subs?

They aren't really, but it's better than having to wait however long it takes for it to come out on DVD over here.
PostPosted: Sat Sep 27, 2008 5:20 pm

I don't see why they don't just put in the subtitles, there are programs that could easily do that... Well, I guess not AS easily as subbing the voices. But it would eliminate the trouble of finding voice actors and stuff.

I guess I don't mind the subbing so much because growing up in Russia, more likely than not, watching American movies, you'd have the original track, then you'd have a guy talking over it, translating. Same voice for everyone, just to get the language across. That was pretty standard.

I watched that series but not all of the episodes. I don't remember it too much. I haven't seen 0083, but when I saw Outlaw Star at Best Buy I did see Z Gundam. Do you know if it's good?

I also played a demo of Dynasty Warriors Gundam for the 360 and it's your typical HACKAN SLASHAN, but it was fun getting my a** kicked by Zechs Marquise. razz Sadly, my local Blockbuster doesn't have it and copies are still $50-$60 (most I would pay is $20).

I'm happy to see other Gundam lovers on here. In celebration, here is some Domon W.

Bio you don't sound the type to like anime. Then again, here you are on Gaia.

As for voice acting, favorite male voice actor is Steve Blum. For females, I'm crossed between Saffron Henderson and Wendee Lee.
