astroninja1 to tell the truth, the only tenchi shows ive seen are GSX and Universe. i skipped the original cause i heard they never finished it cause they just decided to restart with Universe. is this true? Well, the OVA is not finished, but it is not unfinished. It is ongoing. Yes, we waited 9 years (10 years?) for OVA 3 to come out. Hopefully we won't have to wait so long for OVA 4. ~__~ OVA 1 and 2 are BY FAR the best of Tenchi. OVA 3 was good, but was more for people who knew more of the background and were willing to wait out even longer for any sort of conclusion to the story. XD It did whet my appetite for little-known characters though, who we do meet in GXP. <333 Tenchi Universe is a completely different continuum. The backgrounds of everyone are different. Tenchi Universe was a lot of fun and is great, but it is not part of the Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki canon, nor was it a replacement. Basically, it was a rehashing of a popular program to get even more viewers and ratings as a television series. Milking the cashcow. biggrin I don't see the point of watching GXP without watching TM!RO. It seems pointless, as you wouldn't know what was going on. XD WATCH THE OVA. I COMMAND IT.

Yeah, the original Tenchi Muyo! is the OVA...with or without subtitles... 3nodding Here's the wiki on OVA's: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OVAEssentially, they are straight-to-video anime series that didn't air on TV (at least, not a first). The funny thing is, in Japan, OVAs are usually higher-quality than TV series...where in the US, "straight-to-video" usually means "crappy, low-budget mess"...the reasons why Japanese OVAs are so high-quality are various and say a lot about the differences between the broadcasting schedules of the two countries... ninja Looking good, Reiyoko! wink

thats not what i meant when i said subtitle, what i meant was the second part of the title of each series, after the colon. as in tenchi muyo:ryo ohki, ryo ohki is the subtitle.
anyway, thanks for the info, i asked cause i had actualy just finshed watchin tenchi universe and was confused by the beginning of the first episode of tenchi in tokyo

you should be able to find most Tenchi series on veoh.com I own the OVA, Universe, Tokyo, GXP and Sammy OVA, and I would say by far the Ryo-ohki OVA is the most thought provoking of the current releases. Also, OVA 4 Tsuki??? O.o
