On the other pokemon, actually I haven't seen substitute in awhile. I never really thought of it as useful, only reason for that one I can think of is in case of one hit ko moves.

Actually, Substitutes are good for blocking status effects such as Paralysis and Burns, too.

That too. But I never really had problems with any of the above possible reasons for having it and so I never did.

True. That's where substitute becomes useful.

That, and the combo with power-punch and that move that switches to another pokerman and passes the stats to it.

That would be the Sub-Punch (Substitute, then Focus Punch) combo and using a Substitute with Baton Pass.
