Well, I think it's either about: the mood or, people just doesn't understand it or, nobody has the patience to understand it. I mean, as much as I love classical music, there are times when I'd rather listen to a more upbeat/loud that makes me want to dance and do things. besides, most of the society hasn't taken time to understand it. It has to be more exposed to their life.

flutopia I don't know why people don't like classical music anymore. I guess people just think its outdated, perhaps? rolleyes It reminds me of a math class this year and my teacher started to play Beethoven's 5th on the speakers and my classmates walked in and where like "Ughhh. This music is so boooring, I hate classical music." And then they just went outside and worked in the hallway, rather than sitting in actually chairs. It was rather annoying and ignorant of them. because the world now is inundated with pop music and music like that so they don't listen to classical music anymore.

xMissMacabre Wow, your guys cases are quite extreme to me. I remember one time my teacher played classical music in the middle of class, and people didn't seem to mind at all! ..., ...and they seem to like it...and want to come again! and when my school orchestra plays at assemblies, we usually get good response! not just polite clapping, but whooping and cheering, and at one time a standing ovation o.o maybe it's just where I live xD
SOOOOOOOOO lucky! I would love to have someone from my school actually ENJOY what i played! crying When a teacher plays classical music in class, all the students get out their ipods or mp3s or whatever and listen to rap, hip-hop, ... and crap like that! It doesn't help to be the only Native American living in a predominately African American area! sweatdrop

In our world now, almost everyone wouldn't stand out. (I'm no exception) People change, you know. True, we once knew a world where the classical music age was known very much, but it's not the time now.
For MOST teenagers, they would prefer musics like that of what we see now in MTV, Myx, etc. That is because the power of music is... uhh.. very powerful. It influences the minds of people, unaware that what they are listening to are bad messaged (Lyrics are offensive and sometimes illicit) songs in our time now. what they expect from music now is something exciting and hot. They have adjusted to listening to that. Those people who listen to these kinds of musics can influence the others, and the others can influence more people, etc.
In teenagers, this is what we call Peer Pressure. They need to be "in" to become a part of the group. If not, then you're out!!!
This has become one of the major problems in the society (agree with me, it has).
I'm sorry for that brother of yours. I think if I'm in your position, I would get offended too. I love classical musics. At least let him respect it. As far as I know, classical musics are the first ones who made Music possible. It's like the roots of the trees, and its fruits are the others. wink
But that's just me. Haha. biggrin

In my opinion, it is quite obvious that Classical Music was music where the composers spent ages thinking and editing. Take for example, Mozart. He was famous when he was alive, and had to write for royalty. He had so many parts to write for each section, and each one of them is a melody. You have to have genius to make mostly everything scale patterns, everything melody, as well as a perfect balance. Though i personally love classical music, I think Bach (or was it Beethoven, i get their personalities mixed up) liked to be inventive with music. He (whichever one) would have loved some of the new stuff because of its inventiveness. Because we don't have Beethoven here now, we need to deal with some of the new age music. Still, Classical rocks. Oh yeah, have you ever listened to the complete four seasons, in order, starting at spring? It is a great experience. What's even better is hearing it LIVE. That should be on your "things to do before I die" list.

I listen to most everything. Classical, Gangsta Rap, Metal, etc. I believe the reason classical is not as popular now-a-days is because a lot of people see it as the music of their parents and grandparents day. Therefore they don't even take the time to try it because they think since its something that their Grandparents listen too it isn't something they would be interested in. IDK about anyone else but most people i know would not like to be compared to their grandparents in what their tastes in music, fasion, writing, etc. are!

Ah, I grew up with classical music. I don't see what's the big deal, but Bach was always boring (no offense). My friends don't like classical music, but I think that everyone likes the music from zOMG!, Oblivion, Morrowind and such games with classical music (All made by Jeremy Soule).

I think many people of today's society believe that because it's 'classical music' that they'd think it's something that's boring, and uninteresting, but I highly disagree. Plus too many people tend to go to rap, rock, etc. and just leave out the great beauty from the classical music.

Maybe it's just because it takes a certain patience to appreciate? It doesn't necessarily have a bumpin' beat or anything, and I guess people have just become accustomed to music sans melody. Music has sorta become all about the beat in recent times...

A lot of people assume they don't like classical music without even exploring it. Classical music has something for everyone. There are so many different styles and moods. The world would be a better place if more people appreciated classical music.
