Dethan, City of Perpetual Darkness

Kir remained in his defiant stance, his wings outspread as if to protect the girl behind him. If the creature attacked, he would most likely use his cursed voice. It would kill him, but it would also kill the creature.

Durrahn grunted. He felt the pressure of holding this form bear down upon him. A desire to stay could not outweigh nature. He hugged himself, as if hoping to hold himself from expanding, looking batween the two with a pained and afraid look on his face. He thought that if he shifted back he would die.

"...?" Kir looked confused. The creature that was seconds away from killing him suddenly started shivering in pain. He continued to watch and not get close. He thought that he could attack at any moment.

Lily could feel real fear welling out in the boy. She knew that if they left they could probably avoid anymore conflict. She tugged on Kir's shirt to get his attention then gave a slight motion of her head to indicate they should go. She hoped that they could just get away safely.

Kir felt a tug of his shirt and knew that Lily wanted to leave now, but he somehow couldn't find it in him to do so.
"..." Kir glared at the creature. He saw his notepad a distance away so he couldn't use that to communicate. He instead wrote in the air 'Kir' and pointed to himself, to see if it understood him.

Durrahn could hold himself no longer. A tentacle burst from his back, then one arm burst to its normal shape. Finally his entire body resumed its form. Screeching in fear, he backed away into a stance, ready to pounce when the two attacked. Under his breath, the creature hissed, "No....die...."

Kir turned around and picked up Lily. He had enough of this creature and he wanted to see her safe. His wings opened up and he ran along the ground with fast speed.

Durrahn watched them run, and, in a strange shift in emotions, the creature grabbed the nearest civilian and devoured him. The other civilians ran and screamed but he didn't much care. He was safe from those who could hurt him. Sliding into the shadows, he seemed to vanish. He followed the darkness, searching for another holy morsel.

"Kir, put me down!" Lily cried as the angel began to run. When he'd swept her up she'd dropped the arrow she'd nocked and she didn't want to loose it as those were hard to come by and she was confident enough that she thought she could fight off the creature if needed.

Kir gritted his teeth. He didn't want to let her down, but he had to. Who knows how many innocent lives were going to be spent because of their cowardice?
"..." He stopped and let her back on her feet.

"Thank you," she sighed and walked back to the alley, ready to fight but by that time the creature had gone so she grabbed her arrow and put it back in her quiver. "Now, I think we can move on."

Durrahn quickly caught his next scent of holy power. It was a priestess apprentice, but the morsel would fill his appetite until he could find another, less prepared angel. The second she arrived in a shadow, the creature arrive as a giant mouth, engulfing her entire form instantly. She attempted to attack back, but was engulfed by shadow too quick. Devouring the holy energy, his claws glowed white with power, and his size became slightly bigger. He hardly noticed the screams of panic all around him, so lost in the power he now felt. He clawed through the support beam to a balcony effortlessly, letting it come crashing down, killing a clueless bystander. He let out this time not a hiss, but a roar. The roar decreased as he noticed that using his claws had wasted some of his new power, until it became yet again a hiss. A hiss of disapproval at the limits of his new found power.

Kir ran after Lily and eventually found the creature again.
"...!!" Gathering up his courage, he shot more arrows of light at the monster and took to the air.

"Kir!" Lily called after the angel, but then sighed and ran after him. She was beginning to wonder if he wanted to get himself eaten.

Durrahn hissed again, shifted around the arrows, but getting caught by glances. Why couldn't they just leave him alone? He simply slid away, hoping they would just give up the chase. He knew by now running woud work up an appetite, and as a man worked up the courage to swing a sword at him, he knocked the weapon from the man's hands. The man began to scream and run, but the creature picked up the man and ate him. The darkness in the person's heart ate away at his power, shrinking him slightly. Hissing he continued to slide off, hunger again satiated.
