Yup, I'm sure they have the ability to destroy or deflect them

I prefer destroy, it means there will be things most likely blowing up.

Yeah, but when destroying asteroids you'd have to be careful because even small rocks/screws and things can just tear through things if they get going fast enough

Well they should have a some sort of barrier around the colony to prevent that.
