*Facepalm* Am I the only one seeing this? My problem is your asserting that older males being with young females is a Mormon thing - that's total BS. If you're basing your observations on those crazy polygamists out in the desert, those aren't Mormons. ^^"

Amara Su *Facepalm* Am I the only one seeing this? My problem is your asserting that older males being with young females is a Mormon thing - that's total BS. If you're basing your observations on those crazy polygamists out in the desert, those aren't Mormons. ^^" That's where it all started. I mean considering the way that Mormons don't really make it easy to see WHAT they believe and how it's different from their extremist counterparts, I can't be sure. I mean they don't openly say God is an alien living on another planet, but that's what their holy doctrine says as one example. Now according to Wikipedia they were different enough to be considered an off-shot, rather then a real successor to the originals, so I could be wrong. Still unless I see more concrete evidence that specifically says "This is wrong" or "We discourage this", then you can't tell me it's wrong, since it's not explicitly illegal like the polygamy thing. Now if I said Mormon men with underaged girls, that would be different.

They don't *disallow* someone young (20-ish) from marrying someone older, but what church does? What I'm saying is that they don't actively encourage older men to marry younger women - that simply isn't done. You were talking like that is some thing they promote, but that just isn't true. How can I find written evidence of something they don't do? They don't advocate setting pianos on fire, either, but I'm sure nobody took the time to write, "We don't set pianos on fire!" - it's not necessary to make a proclamation stating what you don't do.
As for the God on another planet thing, I won't argue it - that is an example of the things that are provable that one can use to argue against them. You won't hear me debating that. ^^" I feel really badly to be going on about this, but it's something personal to me, and I think they have enough easily-proven things going against them, so we don't need to go looking for unprovable things as well. Rei-chan, please PM me about this, so we can stop dragging the thread off-topic. Pleeeeaaaase... : (

Not always Tenchi. There are certain points that you CAN make even with religious arguements, although usually the best way to do that, is to argue with their own holy doctrine.

This is a touchy subject. Mormons believe in polygamy in some strains of the religion. They also marry their children off to older men so they can begin to have children early. But those strains are often hidden and illegal. Now, that came straight from a mormon friend of mine. He says that those strains are a disgrace to the church he goes to (aka Meyer's church). Can we stop fighting now...? sad

My only point is that debating doctrine is fine, but hearsay and unsupported accusations are going beyond the bounds of fairness. As for the official word on all of this polygamy and stuff, here's their own site dealing with it: http://www.mormon-polygamy.org/ The weird groups who claim to be offshoots of the Mormon church are deviants who were either expelled from the church for their illegal and immoral activities, or not connected to it at all. Some groups are just a bunch of pervs, who claim to be associated with that church, hoping that they can hide under governmental religious protections. Aaaaaanyway, I'm done with it - believe whatever you want to believe, it's no concern of mine. I don't even know why I'm defending a church I'm not even a member of anyway. XD
