Lin
The man nodded, not even remotely taking any kind of offense when Lin admitted to not knowing much about himself or Unova. "That's quite alright," he said amicably, his smile still present and, he hoped, at least a little encouraging. "Unova is a region like Kodo, except quite a bit larger. I was the Pokemon League champion for quite a few years, before relinquishing the title to a young colleague of mine named Iris," he explained. Figuring that was more than enough of an explanation, he instead focused on the young man's origins. "Sandalwood; the city in the trees, yes? I was there for a few days last month, and it's a very charming city. How long have you lived there?"

She accepted Dith's reassurance, feeling incredibly uncomfortable now that someone had vocalized her fears. Rosie's intent sank quickly, and though the girl tried to offer the blonde a fleeting smile, it all but failed, and she looked down to her belt, drawing up a ball and releasing it's contents into her lap, more ready to defend the appearance of the little pink pokemon than to talk about her fears. Plus, it was a comfort to have something innocent and small in her arms as they rode out into the heat and sand.
Trill peeped up at its trainer, curious as to where exactly they were, and why there were so many people here.
With a glance back at the four in the back seat and to Dith again (as Lin seemed to be talking to Alder, and the other two in their own worlds), she asked the large man, "You're a doctor, right?" Sure, the question was a little out of the blue, but it was something to talk about. Something besides fear and inner thought.

The three vehicles continued unimpeded into the heart of the desert as the van's occupants carried out their various conversations, the horizon fading into a haze of heat and sand. Eventually, three small beeps sounded from a device on the van's dashboard - presumably a GPS. "Sorry to interrupt, but if our investigations have been accurate," Petra announced, "we just passed into their security perimeter. Get ready; I doubt it'll be smooth sailing much longer."
As if on cue, what felt like a small earthquake shook the van, suddenly and effectively halting its progress as something forced the front end up off the sand. It dropped heavily back onto the ground as something beneath the vehicle loosed an angry, muffled bellow. The vehicle shifted a little as the terrain below it shifted as well, and then a second or two later, a huge spray of sand erupted from the ground on one side of the van as an angry, black Hippowdon emerged. With another enraged bellow, the large pokemon moved to push the van on its side. Smaller, muffled cries joined in with the Hippowdon's calls as a group of half a dozen Hippopotas emerged from the sand as well and circling the vehicle, a second, tan Hippowdon following shortly after.
"Everyone out!" Alder called out as he hastily put his goggles on, as first the black Hippowdon then the tan Hippowdon blasted sand out of the holes in their backs, causing a blinding sandstorm. "Use ice, water, or grass type moves if your pokemon have them!" That said, he opened his door and exited as he pulled out a pokeball, loosing his Bouffalant out onto the sands. With an angry snort, the pokemon charged the large black ground-type, trying to push it away from the vehicle to allow everyone within to get out. The rest of the angry ground-types loosed sharp cries as they closed in on the front of the vehicle, not close enough yet to block the doors.

She had listened and was about to respond to the man when the van was jostled, and instead found herself clinging to the seat as Trill latched onto her neck. Her heart picked up its pace, and she watched with widening eyes as the pokemon surrounded them, and as Alder gave his orders.
Crap!
As everyone else poured out of the van, the young woman called the confused little legendary back into its ball, and instead released Aurora, knowing the pokemon wouldn't have the upperhand at all, but unwilling not to let her fight. Her bag secured on her back and her gun to her thigh, the girl followed the rest of the team out into the sands, sliding her goggles into place and hissing at the sting of the sand on her skin.
Aurora released an immediate roar, quickly surveying the situation at hand and setting off in an ExtremeSpeed toward the closest target.

The sudden jerking of the vehicle startled her and Sera instinctively reached out to grab onto the seat in front of her with both hands - except she only had one hand with which to do so - and inhaled sharply. Once the vehicle ceased moving and pokemon began emerging, she quickly made sure her goggles were still on properly before exiting with the others. Grass, water, ice... Did she have any of those? It took her a few seconds to go over her pokemon in her head - most knew dark-type moves, but one stood among among the rest. Her hand flew to her belt, pulling a dusk ball from her left side with her right hand. Man, this was awkward as hell, but she didn't have time to worry about it. She covered her nose and mouth with the crook of her elbow as she loosed her pokemon, the white light that shot out from the ball morphing into the small form of a Sneasel - one who stood erect for a split second before stumbling back with an irritated cry as the sandstorm whipped around them. "Agatha, Icy Wind!"
The dark-type obliged, though she didn't enjoy this nearly as much as she couldn't. Regardless, with a sharp, shrill cry, the small pokemon loosed the ice attack at the nearest pair of Hippopotas.

The vehicle's sudden lurch was nothing short of unexpected, and Luke instinctively braced himself in the seat to steady himself as he searched the windows to try and gain an understanding of the situation. Alder's harried call pulled his attention, and he drew the goggles up to their proper place before rising from the seat as much as the low ceiling would allow. With a glance to Rosie and Seraphine that was perhaps less nervous than he had been feeling earlier - fighting against pokemon was familiar territory and something they trained to do on a regular basis - he exited the van and assessed the situation.
Ground-types, weak to water, ice, and grass. Water, of course. The type he had foregone in favor of electricity, to which ground was immune. With no real advantages to speak of, he released a large Pidgeot into the building fray, the bird voicing her discomfort at being buffeted by the raging sandstorm. "Give it a Whirlwind," her trainer encouraged, the back of his hand to his mouth to prevent inhaling the airborne earth. The flying-type complied, flapping her great wings at the nearest Hippopotas in an effort to push it back from their transport. ___
Petra extracted herself from the van alongside the other trainers, loosing a pokeball from her thigh and releasing a large Victreebell. "Gloria," she said, lowering her goggles over her eyes and covering her mouth with her sleeve, "up, please." Understanding the request, the large grass-type extended a vine to wrap around her trainer, lifting the small woman and placing her on the car's roof. Her task complete, the Victreebell moved on to the next order of business, joining Alder's Bouffalant in deterring the black Hippowdon with an aggressive display of Vine Whip.
The grass-type's trainer observed the sudden battlefield from her new perch, calling out a plan of action, "Drive them back! We can't stay here long!"

Once clear of the van, Lin swung himself up onto Moriko's back, as Jeeves found a perch on his right shoulder. He rode the Sawsbuck toward the Hippowdon, holding up a hand to gesture intertwining fingers to the Snivy on his shoulder, then pointed forward, hand flat.
As soon as the silent command was given, Jeeves ran down, and leapt from, his trainer's arm, launching himself, as Lin and Moriko broke off their charge so as not to get in the way as Jeeves released a Leaf Tornado toward the Hippowdon.
Meanwhile, Moriko's target was one of the Hippopotas. Unused to silent commands, as yet, she had to rely on her rider's shout for the attack to use. "Moriko! Leech Seed!"
