Hearing his heartbeat now - almost painfully throbbing, Tala would watch the man's face shift and change...the expression turning from one of intrigue to that of noticeable irritation... Clearly the Shadowmancer had failed to fully carry out his request, but the youth wasn't given too much time to think it over as a brusque wind, followed by an angry snarl from his Guardian pushed him towards the nearest wall - knowing it was foolish to fight against it, Tala only pushed back just enough to steady himself before taking up his new position and 'blending' out of sight.

It felt strange to hear the admiration in the Witch's voice and Tala's eyes would narrow mistrustfully towards the old woman, initially gauging her reaction before tensing as she attempted to advance towards him - At the Elder's glare, the Witch quickly bowed under his scowl and stepped back... What forces was he in the presence of? To be able to silence one who naturally cared very little for the emotions of others...?

Tala would now find his gaze returning towards the Elder, the man's voice once again making the youth's skin crawl as it summoned him closer and told him to kneel... "...He's gotta be kidding?" The shadows around him would dispel, crawling back from whence they came as the male's eyes widened at the sight of the man's glowing digit... What on Eoana were they going to do to him? Hearing the Elder's chanting didn't exactly set his mind at ease, especially as Baba's words flooded back into his mind... "You will not move, unless told, you will not touch, unless given and you do not speak unless spoken to...Your life and mine, will depend on it,"

So much for just finding out what the Witch wanted and leaving... The whole situation had clearly been well planned ahead - sure, he could bottle it and run...but how far would that get him? Had the fog returned, he would quickly lose his bearings and perhaps even his mind...and who was to say running was even an option? Knowing the company he was in, he may not even reach the door before he was struck down. "...Oh Gods...How do I let this happen?" Cursing his ever-dwindling trust for the Old Woman, Tala swallowed hard, finding his body resisting strongly as he pushed a foot closer towards the Elder...

To bow before another was something he rarely did unless it was owed, to kneel was something even more abhorrent to him... Tala couldn't tear his sights from the Aged Being as he advanced - the Elder's featureless eyes gave no indication as to whether or not he was actually watching and even though the youth knew he was deliberately taking his time, he could feel the persistent glare of Baba's eyes burning into the back of his skull...

His body now struggling to cope with the nerves, Tala would stumble just before he could fully kneel and the youth found himself dropping a little quicker than intended - he would of course steady himself, sitting back on his heels with his eyes focused on the floor. As the Elder extended his hand, Tala found it increasingly difficult to keep himself from trembling and finally lifted his gaze, focusing briefly on the advancing light before bowing his head again and shutting his eyes tight.

In the lull of the perpetual wait, there would be no sound from anywhere within the room - nor anything from those they had passed through before it. The only sound was that of the ever-present pounding of his heart in his ears...and that alone scared him greatly.

Almost as soon as the old man's finger touched Tala's forehead, suddenly a rush of images and pacing memory suddenly filled the very air around them both. The room around them disappeared altogether as everything seemed to swirl around them, before suddenly they were floating in the air, high in the air over a very very wealthy manse. 'I will show you the way...' A sudden voice filled Tala's mind, as if it were Tala's own thoughts, but in the almost clear voice that at first would sound random, and vague, before it became obvious that the voice was of the old man in front of him, no longer raspy or broken, but clear and concise. Suddenly the entire scene around them jumped to the front doors of the huge estate. 'We will start here...' the voice said with its smooth and deep intimidating sound filling Tala's thoughts. Suddenly the front door became a hallway, and then a stairwell, and then a corridor. It was directions, memories of where to go being directly implanted in Tala's mind. Left, right, down, so far down, just how big could this place have possibly been?

Near the bottom of the huge estate through secret entrances and secret tunnels, the memory led to a large hidden room deep underground, within hidden sections of the estate, which lay hidden beneath the main grounds. Once the location was firmly implanted, one thing suddenly started to form in Tala's mind. A small pendant, circular in shape, metallic with a smooth carving of an eye perfectly etched into it. 'The Ancient Eye...' The voice echoed again, inscribing the object within Tala's mind once more. 'Bring me the Eye...' The voice echoed even louder then, and all of the information just absorbed into Tala, extinguishing the light from the old man's finger. In that moment, all of the information would fill Tala's head all at once, before subsiding as if the memory were his own. The old man sat back in his chair then, and peered at Tala with his clear milky grey eyes. "Succeeeeed, and yooou will be rewarded," The old raspy voice said as his arms were once more settled in at his sides, as if the old man were now resting. "Faiiiilll....."

No more words would come from the old man, a dead silence would fill the room as the old man closed his eyes, the silence itself portraying a 'failed' result, nothing else would come from the old man, not a sound, not a peep, not even a breath, as if there was nothing but a husk sitting there. Baba would stand there for a moment, after having watching the old man cast a spell on Tala, she simply stayed back and let him reflect for a moment. But only for a moment. "Come, Ta-la," She said once she had regained her own composure, leading Tala out of the door and back into the next room of the hut before saying anything else. "Do you understand?" Baba asked, giving Tala a chance to speak now and possibly ask his questions. First and foremost however, Baba needed to make sure that Tala knew what his mission was. What his purpose was, why she brought him here.

Tala's eyes would snap open at the touch, growing wider still as his mouth dropped open with a gasp as the images flooded his mind, then before it could all sink in, everything swirled into white - if only for a moment.

At the sound of a voice - one he didn't quite recognise at first - Tala would open his eyes as if they had been closed all along, only to be taken by surprise to find himself floating high above an unknown building - and a rather opulent one at that. He wanted to ask where they were, but realised he couldn't find his voice...Baba had insisted he speak only when spoken to however, so it was probably for the best - he could always ask her later anyway.

With just enough time to put the initial sight to memory, Tala would quickly find himself drifting through several interior locations - so many that with each turn, he felt he would forget...at least for now.

Several more twists and turns and they would come to a stop - Once again, the voice would speak, growing in strength until it had explained what the youth was to seek. In his mind, Tala could see the object - not close enough to reach out, but it was there. His eyes scrutinised the prize closely, taking note of it so there would be no mistake, then it felt as though he'd been struck and the youth recoiled as the memories flooded his mind all at once before subsiding back into the silence of the room.

Straightening up, Tala would listen as he was offered a reward if his assignment was a successful one, the man's voice seemed to trail off at the mention of failure, but Tala knew that was not an option if he wanted to come out of this on top.

He would remain kneeling for a moment longer, trying to put everything he had seen into order before turning his head as he heard Baba speak. Her voice broke the deathly silence and the youth would rise, taking in the sight of the old man infront of him as his legs took a moment to recover from kneeling for so long. Once he felt safe to move, Tala would follow the Old Woman back through the door. Everything felt so strange, his heart had slowed, yet his body remained tense, he had heard and seen everything the man had shown him, but would he remember it? And where was this place? He wasn't sure...

"Aye..." he would nod in acknowledgement, his head bowed in thought and brow narrowed in focus as he tried to sort through all he had seen. "Do you know of this place?" he would eventually lift his gaze, turning to face her, "It's not in Eoana as far as I'm aware...but then again, I've not travelled far." his mission was clear, to retrieve 'The Ancient Eye' - for what reason, he didn't know, but it was reason enough that if he wanted to survive.

With what he had seen, Tala knew there was no backing out now...Baba wouldn't appreciate his lack of conviction and would no doubt punish him if he decided against going through with what was required - but how was he to pull it off...?

"I...need some time to prepare," he knew he had to find out where this place was as well, but if he could take just a few hours to steady himself, he would be ready.

"No not in Eoana, Valor," Baba started to say as she walked around the hut now, grabbing small things here and there off of the tables as she searched for something in the clutter. "You'll have plenty of time to prepare on your trip, it takes at least two days to reach Valor, and that's by high end service," She said as she picked up a minor trinket and looked it over for a second. "Mhm..." She let out as she continued to pick and prod at a few more items. After a moment, Baba pulled all of the items aside and placed them in a small bag. She looked over at Tala who was no doubt looking about the room then as he was close to the animals in their cages, and nodded in her direction once he looked up towards her. "This will be unlike anything I've ever asked of you Ta-la, and ever more so important, for the estate that you must infiltrate to return the Great Lord's Ancient Eye to him, is house De'Valaer, home of Rhoderick De'Valaer, Royal Court Mage and Advisor to the King of Valor... Don't screw this up!"

Leading Tala out of the room then and back outside of the hut, Baba started to walk him right out towards the thick fog that still lined the incredibly thick tree line. She brought her hands up once more, making a strange gesture as before as she muttered something under her breath, and just as suddenly as the fog around the clearing disappeared when they arrived, it reappeared all around them. "Your raiment is great Ta-la, and will aid you greatly in your task, however it does have limits!" She started to say as she continued to lead him through the forest as before. Her words might have been confusing at first, as she started to speak of Tala's raiment, and of the limitations that came with them. It was almost as if she were worried about him, about this task, about what he'd have to overcome.

"There will be many ways to mask yourself, but shadows do nothing to hide your footsteps, the sound of your breath, or your voice..." Baba said while pointing out some of the things he needed to be very careful about. After her words she pulled something out of the bag, and started muttering some words while making quick hand gestures towards the item she pulled out, before it started to glow for just a moment, and returning to its original appearance. "Your scent will also always be a factor, you'll want to try to stay downwind," She continued on as she pulled another item, and without fail did the same thing she had done to the first bauble as she spoke again, continuing to go over the limitations of his raiment almost to the point of droning on.

After walking a bit longer through the trees, Baba stopped and sniffed the air for a moment before turning and facing Tala. She nodded briefly before pulling out the items from before. "You'll have to keep these things in mind at all times, but I know there may be times when you can't help your lack of control over these things," She said referencing both sounds and smells from her earlier words. Baba held up a soft cloth of some sort, and held it out for Tala. "Take this charm, when used it will cover your scent, as if you were never there," She said while placing the cloth in Tala's and pulling out a small feather. "This one will make you completely silent, erasing all noise coming from you directly," She said as she also handed him the feather. "These are one time use items Ta-la, for emergencies only, together with your raiment, they can help you escape if needed," She said as she closed her bag and started to led him the rest of the way through the forest. Once they reached a certain point, Baba looked back at him and held her hand out for him to stay where he was. She nodded at him once more, her gaze sharp and narrowed as she backed away into the fog, completely disappearing from view. "Be careful Ta-la" Her words echoed from the fog, and a few seconds later, the fog dissipated completely, disappearing from all around him as he was shown to have been returned to a path leading back to town, all alone once more.

"Valor?" That explained why he hadn't recognised the building - having come from Trendel, far across the other side of the ocean, the masonry itself was quite different from what he'd grown up around. Tala would have never expected to travel to Valor at all in his life, but with the task now set, he knew it wouldn't be long.

He listened as Baba spoke of the time it would take to travel the sea alone, his eyes glancing across the objects she collected and bagged as she went. It was at this point his eyes would indeed stray back towards the animals they had passed initially... The creatures were as before, every shape, size and colour, but one in particular held his attention. The poor Canine looked petrified, cowering in the back of its cage...Tala couldn't understand why its holding glowed in such an alluring blue hue, but he had learnt long before not to touch and instead returned his gaze towards the Witch.

Once again, his lack of Historical learning left the youth with little knowledge as to exactly who Rhoderick De'Valaer was, but at the mention of Court Mage, Tala immediately put the man up alongside Gannon who in his own mind was very important - and powerful.

He would follow once again as Baba led the way back through the residence, listening as she spoke of his Raiment and how it would be an aid in his mission, but she didn't need to remind him of its limits...He knew well how certain factors could lead to discovery - After all, he'd lived with her long enough to know how sharp her ears were and how keen her eyesight was at picking out subtleties in the dark.

Stepping back outside, Tala's eyes would lift, watching as the Fog billowed back into its original resting place, shrouding their path and its surrounds once again... Was she worried? Baba was never one for showing her emotions, but was there a hint of concern in her voice? The youth wouldn't question it - his usual cocky replies failing to rise to the surface with such a large task claiming his attention.

It was always fascinating to watch and listen as the Witch set about working her charms on whatever she held in her hands. It was true, she did have a habit of droning on a little, but with his life at stake...and her own? He knew it was important to listen - and listen well.

They would once again walk for some time before the Witch ground to a halt. At this, Tala would quirk an eyebrow curiously, then as Baba sniffed the air, he would lightly tilt his head back, hoping to catch a scent of what she might have been looking for? As she turned however, he would quickly lock his gaze on hers, breaking eye contact only to watch as she held out the charms for him to take, explaining what they would do and their own limitations.

He hadn't even considered getting back out again once he was inside - which was pretty bad...It was imperative he took everything into concern before setting off. Taking the items, Tala would note what each one did and stash it accordingly so he could find it when he needed it.

As Baba led the way once again, the youth would remain silent, his brow furrowed as he tried to prepare himself for what was ahead of him... Only when she came to a stop and motioned for him to stay where he was did all manner of questions suddenly flood his mind. He opened his mouth to speak, but as she backed away, her final words left him realising that he was going to be doing this all on his own.

Moments later, the fog would fade - Tala would recognise the trail almost immediately but as his eyes lifted to where they might have just come, there would be nothing - no footsteps, no dissipating shadow... He was alone.

With little option now, the youth would turn, his eyes momentarily falling upon the Academy off in the distance as the morning sunlight lit it up in all its splendour, then he would set his sights on the marketplace. There would be no point of heading back to his dorm room - he didn't want to run the risk of bumping into anyone - especially as it was the day of his Knit Class - If Nova had planned another 'outside' lesson, that could delay him further as he'd have no choice but to attend... No. He would take a few hours to rest, then purchase some new attire and a bag before making his way down to the Docks.

Kayl Ardrus De'Valaer
Sylrenya Duskwing

Probability || None
Enters with Sylrenya and Gannon from the Courtyard...

                              ╔═══════════════════

It had been sometime since Kayl, Sylrenya, and Gannon had left the comfort of the city, riding away from the grand academy to help Sylrenya find her home. Most of their trip thus far was fairly quiet as they scanned the forest around them, both taking in the sights of the lush and beautiful forest while keeping a watchful eye out for their protection. Although Kayl had no quarrels or issues with Gannon, their trip was mostly silent as they rode deeper into the forest. Not because they didn't enjoy each other's company, but simply because of a lack of items of conversation between them. They had really only known each other only through the academy as teacher and student, so personal information aside from important raiment discussions and practices were unknown. This would be the first time Kayl would spend so much time with Gannon without discussing or working on his raiment, and so most of his conversations were mostly with Sylrenya, answering any questions she might have had while asking her about all kinds of things of the forest. Any conversation that took place between Kayl and Gannon was mostly just checking up on each other and or for directional input and information.

After some more time had passed, it had actually started to get dark in the forest, the sun slowly setting as the day slowly crept to an end. The temperature lowered slowly and Syl wrapped herself in the folds of Kayl's hood to stay warm, getting so comfortable that she had actually fallen asleep. Kayl shook his head lightly at the sight, and sighed lightly as he rode next to Gannon. Without Syl taken and holding much of his attention, Kayl found himself thinking about what happened in the training grounds with Camilla. Learning of Camilla's surprising raiment and it's great augments to her strength was one thing, she certainly did surprise him in that fight. But what surprised him more was what he felt when he was suddenly put into a situation that really was very dangerous for him. It was the first time Kayl was ever pushed that far and the first time he had ever gotten so serious in a fight. It was good that things ended and settled quickly, because in that moment Kayl had felt something he had never felt before, and wasn't sure if it was even him fighting anymore. Nothing scared him more then when he realized what he had done, how quickly he resolved to going for the kill. What happened exactly? Did this have to do with his raiment? Was this part of the 'mastery' effect they were trying to understand? Shaking his head then, he looked over at Gannon, who had been trying to help him identify and master his raiment. Kayl knew that this is something he would have to bring up with Gannon, something that could be a clue into the mystery that was his raiment, but he was a bit apprehensive. So after another moment in thought, Kayl stifled a deep breath and sighed.

"Lord Gannon," Kayl said while steadying his horse next to Gannon's so that they were completely side by side now, their horses riding nearly in rhythm. "Something happened today in the training grounds, something relating to my raiment, I think, something that I cannot explain..." Kayl said in a calm but somewhat concerned tone, and when he had Gannon's full attention he continued. "...I felt a terrible impulse during a sparring match that has confounded me, I don't understand where it came from, a kind of bloodlust perhaps? or more like a calmness? or some kind of focus, I'm not sure how to describe it." Kayl said, his words a bit mixed as he looked down at his hands, holding them up in front of him as he tried to rationalize what had happened before reaching back down and taking hold of his horse's reins. His voice was still steady, but his own tribulations could be heard in his tone. "What perplexed me though, was that this impulse, this feeling, I'm not so sure that it was my own feelings, and in that moment, I couldn't think, or rather didn't think. My mind just went blank as I became focused, intently, on what was in front of me. All I could feel was a certainty that I needed to end it, and all I could see was death, and when I struck..." Kayl's eyes narrowed as he paused for a moment, taking a breath and recollecting his thoughts. He wasn't even sure if he was making sense anymore, and he certainly didn't want to confuse his mentor and teacher. He shook his head lightly and sighed before looking back up towards Gannon. "She is fine I assure you, but I could have seriously harmed one of my classmates today, and to be completely honest with you, it frightened me..."

Kayl's voice was still perfectly calm, as if everything he had said wasn't affecting him emotionally. As if he had done all this before, and it was just another day in the office. His words might have indicated that he was worried, but his body language was telling a completely different story. Even Kayl could tell that it was strange. As he told Gannon about the incident in the training grounds, and told him about something new that he had experienced, he didn't actually feel panicked or anxious in the least, even though he had told Gannon that it frightened him. Looking to Gannon then, Kayl wondered what he would make of all this, and wondered if he had ever felt something like that before.

╔═══════════════════

Whilst Gannon and Kayl traveled in silence, Gannon was alert to all that was around him. With his raiment active, he picked up on the chatter and gossip of the animals as they made their way through the forest on horseback. Most of the animals recognized him and were curious as to why he was riding a horse and whom he’d brought along. Normally, Gannon would have put the animals at ease about his presence, but with the long journey ahead, there wasn’t time to humor them all and answer all of their questions. Thus, he spoke to some of them, mind to mind, reassuring them of the task at hand. Many of the animals offered advice on where to go or warning of areas to stay away from.

Leading the way, Gannon took mental notes of where they were and occasionally took out the map Elijah had provided, jotting down little notes here and there as he and Kayl traveled. Eventually, it seemed that the silence became too much for Kayl. Either that, or he just had something that he needed to get off of his chest. Looking to his student and travel companion, Gannon listened intently and silently as Kayl spoke, revealing his concern and his confusion over the incident that had occurred at the training grounds.

For months Gannon had been attempting to help Kayl unlock the secrets of his raiment. It was clear that Kayl did in fact possess a raiment, but it was unclear as to what it might be. The boy seemed to obtain vast amounts of knowledge when he encountered certain objects, but there was nothing consistent about the objects or the encounters. One moment, Kayl didn’t know something, be it a book, a weapon, etc., the next he knew everything about it. It was the oddest thing and something that Gannon had never encountered before. So, to hear that Kayl had experienced something akin to bloodlust whilst sparring with a fellow student, it was both curious and concerning. Was it possible that this was just another facet of Kayl’s elusive powers?

“Although I am not a warrior in my own right, from what I do know of battle, I would assume that what you speak of was something akin to bloodlust or battle rage. It happens when you experience a burst of adrenaline or are forced into a situation beyond your control – your body takes over and your mind acts on instinct. It’s…a survival mechanism.” Gannon explained as they slowly made their way through the woods. “This is certainly something that I want you to keep an eye on. I know you’re not participating in any of the combat classes, but blood lust and battle rage are not things to take lightly, especially when sparring for fun. Luckily, I can tell that you are upset by the possibility of hurting one of your classmates, and that is a good sign. In all honesty I would be much more concerned if you weren’t, Kayl. Never the less, I think once this journey with Silme is over, we should explore this new aspect of your raiment together.”

Gannon had every confidence that Kayl would follow his advice and explore this concerning aspect of his power under supervision once they got back to the Academy. In the meantime, it was steadily getting darker and soon they would need to make camp. The two chatted a bit more, discussing the aspects of the fight and the fact that Camilla had pushed Kayl a bit too far, to the point where he’d experienced the feeling. With the new details, Gannon was convinced that Kayl had gone into a sort of ‘survival mode’ and that his reaction had been in the interest of self-preservation. Kayl was a good kid…

Upon making camp, Gannon and Kayl worked together to put together an evening meal before turning in for the night. They agreed to wake at first light to continue the journey – in the meantime, while they slept, Brageet would scout the area and look for any indications that they were near Silme’s home.

    [ - End Interaction for RP Day - ]

    ~*~

[ - Begin Interaction for New RP Day - ]

Gannon awoke shortly before sunrise. Brageet’s return to the camp stirred him, he could always sense her presence and once she settled, digesting her dinner, she’d chirped at him to rouse him from his rest. Yawning, he stretched lightly and arose from his bed roll, running a hand through his slightly tussled hair. <<’Good morning, my love. Did you have a good night?’>> He asked her using their link, as to not wake Kayl just yet.

<<’Good morning, Gan. Yes, the hunting in this part of the forest is very good.’>> Brageet said with a satisfied little chirp as she fluffed her feathers and preened with pride. <<’And, it seems that we’re on the right track. I spoke to some of the other nocturnal birds, fae do live in this area, but they’re very private so I wasn’t able to pinpoint where they are exactly. But, we’re on the right track.’>> The news was reassuring and welcome indeed. Given all of the past fae sightings in this area of the woods, Gannon had been hopeful that Silme’s people, or at least a grouping of fae, still resided in the area and it seemed that they did. There was no telling if these fae were from Silme’s village, but it was a step in the right direction.

<<’That is wonderful news, love! Thank you for asking around, I’m sure Silme will be very happy to hear the news. With any luck, we’ll find some other fae soon.’>> Yawning a bit, he rubbed at his face and his eyes. It would be a long day, but the effort would be worth it in the end. Arising from his bedroll, Gannon was quick to get breakfast started and begin packing while Kayl got a few more minutes of precious sleep.

Waking early in the morning, Sylrenya was surprised when she noticed that they had already bunkered down for the night. She was quite warm, huddled closely within Kayl's hood as he slept, sitting with his back against a tree. He was mumbling something to himself briefly, as if talking in his sleep. With his hood up, covering his face however Syl just assumed he must have been having a funny or silly dream, thinking it cute that Kayl talked to himself. Stirring very quietly as not to wake him, Sylrenya quietly stood up, and stretched out before flying into the air and looking around eagerly and with suspense. She noted a few different bushes that looked familiar to her and start to wander just a bit, making sure she stayed within sight of the camp. Sylrenya couldn't remember when she had learned about foraging, but she could tell what fruits and nuts were ok to eat in the forest. After some time gathering a few things here and there. Syl quickly returned to the camp and dropped off what she could carry before flying off once more. She continued to do this until Brageet returned, and woke Gannon. Flying up to Gannon as he started to clean and pack up. She smiled happily as she hovered just before him.

"Good Morning Gannon," Syl let out before pointing down at the spot where she had been gathering the fruits and nuts. "I brought some more food from the forest, I know you had packed some for the trip, but I was feeling a bit restless, and I figured this could help," She said a bit shyly as she noted that Gannon had already started preparing a meal. She had hoped that she had helped at least a little, and started flying around again in excitement. She was finally going to find her home, she just knew it deep in her gut. She hadn't noticed before but she was starting to recognize parts of the forest, even if she couldn't remember from where. After learning of so much about herself with Lelyna's help, she couldn't believe she was finally going to see her grandfather, the Elder Fae of the village. She had a million questions, mostly about herself, and how long she had been gone, and as she flew around excitedly, without any real objective in mind, she smiled and giggled to herself freely as she weaved in and out of the trees, remembering what it felt like.

Hearing Silme’s voice, he glanced up to see her hovering in front of him, looking well rested and eager to get back to their journey. “Good Morning, Silme…” He said with a smile as he looked towards the little pile of fruits and nuts that she had gathered for them to eat. “That certainly is a good amount of fruits and nuts, Silme. Thank you for gathering them for us.” He could sense that she was restless and eager to continue. By helping with the breakfast, it meant that they were that much closer to leaving the camp and continuing onward, not that he had a problem with that.

“I’m almost don’t packing up the camp. Once we’ve filled our bellies we can be on our way. Brageet found a few more clues for us while she was out hunting. It seems like we’re on the right track.” Gannon said reassuringly as he moved to divide up the food Silme had gathered. “Why don’t you go ahead and wake up Kayl while I get everything ready to leave. He suspected that if she had tasks to partake in, she would feel better about the journey and her part in it.

Setting out two plates with the fruits, nuts and some bread from his bags, as well as fresh water, Gannon waited for Silme to wake up Kayl in her own way. Nibbling on some berries, Gannon looked to Brageet, who was perched close by. She chirped at him expectantly, much to his delight. Holding out a berry, she happily nibbled on it and fluffed her feathers. It seemed that she liked the sweetness. “Enjoy the dessert.” He teased, popping a few berries into his mouth before offering her more.

Sylrenya smiled excitedly as Gannon spoke, sharing with her the clues that Brageet had found. She twirled about in the air, happily celebrating before hovering in front of Gannon once more. She nodded with glee when Gannon asked for her to wake Kayl so that they can move on. Darting towards where Kayl sat, she suddenly came to a halt air when she saw his face however. Kayl was hunched over some what, breathing hard and sweating as he caught his bearings. His hood had been flung off, and it looked for a moment as if he had seen a ghost. As he caught his breath, Kayl's face changed from one of surprise and fear, to one of anger as he stood up, and this stopped Sylrenya in her tracks. "A-are you ok? ...Kayl?" She asked as she slowly hovered over to him, trying not to pester him as she got close to his face. "Was it the nightmare again?" She asked as she looked to the ground, her excited and happy feelings suppressed at the sight of her friend suffering on his own. Kayl looked up at Syl with narrowed desperately furious eyes for just a moment, before returning to a more natural and easy gaze. "Syl, I'm sorry just, give me a moment..." He said as he brought his hand up to his face, covering his eyes for a moment, as he rubbed his brow.

Sylrenya slowly landed on his shoulder then, bringing a hand up to the side of his head, patting just behind his ear as she tried to console him. "I'm ok Syl, it was just a dream," He said yet again, the only phrase he used regarding his nightmare. Sylrenya was the only one who knew that he was plagued by bad dreams, but even she didn't know anything about them. Whenever she was suddenly woken by Kayl's grumbles, and sudden panicked awakenings, he would always answer 'I'm ok... it was just a dream'. "It's ok..." She let out softly as Kayl took a moment to breath. Once Kayl managed to compose himself, he looked over towards Gannon who had already packed up most of their things and prepared breakfast. Kayl was a little embarrassed he had overslept, and walked over to Gannon as Syl sat down on his shoulder, getting comfortable once more in the folds of his hood. "Gannon says that we are on the right track, it seems like we may be getting close to the village," She said trying to change the subject since she knew Kayl wouldn't want to talk about his nightmare. If she could at least help ease his mind off of it, and back into a better mood, then she was up to the task. "Oh? Well that's good, looks like we'll have you home in no time," Kayl said while letting out a small smile and heading over to where Gannon was working.

"Good Morning Gannon, I apologize if I overslept, is there anything I can do to help?" Kayl asked lightly while looking everything over. It didn't seem like there was anything he could really do, but he thought he would ask none the less. Once they had finished eating, Kayl did at least help to put away any of the utensils they used, as well as brushing off the area Once they were ready, Kayl walked over to Elynai, his horse, and patted his muzzle, feeding him a piece of fruit before taking the reigns and mounting up. Once Gannon was ready to go, Kayl would follow eagerly as they made their way deeper into the forest, and towards what they hoped was the Village of the Fae.

“No need to apologize, Kayl. I thought you could use some extra sleep.” While Gannon was used to traveling via horseback or on foot through the woods, it wasn’t necessarily something that Kayl, a high ranking Noble, would be used to. Hence the need for him to rest more than Gannon.

The trio shared their breakfast before packing up the rest of the camp and heading back out onto their journey. Despite her need to sleep, Brageet did her best to stay awake to direct the group toward the area that she’d scouted. However, with the steady sway of Gannon’s horse, Brageet soon drifted off to sleep on Gannon’s shoulder, much to his amusement. Luckily, she’d already directed them toward where they needed to go.

Just like the day before, Gannon communicated with the various wildlife they encountered along the way, reassuring them that they were just passing through. As before many of the creatures were curious and eager to chat. But as they moved deeper into the territory that Brageet had indicated, territory that Silme was slowly beginning to recognize, Gannon encountered fewer and fewer creatures. Likewise, the usual sounds of the forest, the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves as critters scampered about, lessened until all was silent within the surrounding area.

It wasn’t until Gannon couldn’t hear anything that he stopped his mount and wordlessly urged Kayl to do the same. Straining his ears, Gannon closed his eyes, allowing his senses to take over as he attempted to discern why the forest was so eerily quiet.

‘Something isn’t right here…’ He thought to himself, a chill slipping up his spine. He’d never encountered anything like this whilst traveling through the woods before. Forests were full of life – even in the dead of winter animals were lively. Now, just as spring was turning to summer, the forest should have been teeming with noise and activity as the animals went about their daily lives. But he couldn’t even discern even the hum of busy bees or irritating flies. No birds sang or called to their mates, no rabbits or squirrels scurried around in the foliage. It was as if they’d all fled the area or at the very least, feared making any sound lest a deadly predator notice their presence..

“Something is very wrong here…” Gannon whispered, loath to breath the silence. His eyes scanned the surrounding area as he kept his sense on high alert. Although he didn’t wish to wake her, Gannon used his mind link with Brageet to rouse her from sleep – he needed her keen eyes and sensitive senses.

<<’My love, I need you. Something is very wrong.’>> He said as he spoke directly into her mind. Roused by his presence in her mind, Brageet’s eyes fluttered open and she puffed out her feathers lightly as she came awake. But his words put her on high alert.

<<’What is it? What is wrong?’>> Eyes darting this way and that, she scanned the area just as Gannon did.

<<’Listen…do you hear anything?’>> It only took a few seconds for Brageet to understand what was going on. Her gaze narrowed as she came to the same realization that Gannon had.

    <<’Not a sound…this isn’t good.’>>

<<’Do you remember it being this silent last night?’>> Gannon doubted Brageet would have missed such a vital detail about the area – but then again, when she flew, the wind howled around her like a rush.

<<’It was quiet, but the forest usually is at night. But this…this isn’t normal. There is something extremely dangerous in the area.’>> He agreed. Nothing made the forest go silent like this without reason…

“Be on alert, Kayl.” Gannon whispered, knowing he didn’t have to give his student any other instruction. Reaching behind him, Gannon took his bow in hand, knocking an arrow to have at the ready.

Riding comfortably through the forest, Kayl let Gannon take the lead as they travelled through the trees. They had long gone off of any given path, as there was no settlement further northwest to travel to. These parts of the woods were largely left untouched, with only animals and wildlife settled into the lands. Sylrenya could hardly contain herself. As soon as she saw anything that looked remotely familiar, she would quickly zoom off of Kayl's shoulder and explore whatever it was, be it a large uncommon stone or boulder, an odd shaped tree, or some other scene that she remembered for one reason or the next. At one point, Sylrenya suddenly fluttered in front of them with glee and she pointed out towards a clearing of trees while looking back at them. "We're close! We're close! I remember this, I used to play here all the time!" She let out before suddenly darting off towards the north. Kayl smiled intently as Syl got over excited, and he shook his head lightly when she zoomed off on her own further north. Looking to Gannon then, Kayl was about to say something else when Gannon suddenly rose his hand and stopped them both.

As Gannon suddenly stopped them, Kayl looked around as he too started to notice how quiet it had been. He looked at Gannon once more and he could see the distressed look on his face. Brageet had been looking around too, seemingly a bit nervous on her roost. When Gannon suddenly whispered out to him, confirming his suspicions that something wasn't right, Kayl looked out towards the forest where Sylrenya had just darted off on her own. "Lord Gannon, Sylreyna!" Kayl said in as low a voice as he could, the urgency keeping him from calmly whispering as Gannon had. Before Gannon could acknowledge what he was saying, Kayl had whipped forward his horse's reins while giving a gentle kick at its sides, and his horse neighed and charged ahead, following in the direction Sylrenya had flown.

It took several minutes of galloping into the clearing before Kayl finally caught sight of the little Fae. She was no longer the giddy little puff of happiness that she had been while they were traveling. Her wings drooped low on her back as she stood on a low hanging branch, her hand extended towards its trunk as she looked back at Kayl with tears in her eyes. "I-I don't understand..." Syl let out in a pout as a single teardrop fell. Where the tear had fallen, the bark of the tree glowed for just a split second, the branch taking on a deep brilliant brown before returning to dark and muddy almost blackish brown. "What happened to them?" Syl said as she overlooked the clearing, looking at many of the trees in the northern tree line.

Kayl was confused at first, as he wasn't sure what it was that Sylrenya was talking about, but as he looked further down the tree line, he could see that there was a section on the far side of the tree line that had a significant change in the trees. It was subtle, but the discoloration of the trees could be seen when they were compared with others trees further away. They ranged in browns and greens, all bright in the suns light until the eyes came upon that section. Suddenly all of the trees were a bit darker, their leaves just a bit more grey, and it stretched all the way from that northern section to where they stood now. "This doesn't look right Lord Gannon, what could have caused this?" Kayl said as he pointed out what he had seen. "What if the Village... what if..." Sylrenya started to say before Gannon could say anything. She started to fly a bit ahead of them once more but Kayl called out to her then. "Syl! I know you're scared, and I promise we will find out what happened together, but for now, I think it would be best if you stayed with us," Kayl said before she could fly off on her own again. She was eager to fly off to her village now that she knew where she was, but she trusted Kayl and knew that he was only thinking of what was best. She looked towards the northern tree line, and then back to Kayl, her gaze changing back and forth as f she was hesitating, but then ultimately returned to them both and landed on Kayl's outstretched hand. Sylrenya then pointed to the northern trees, as if telling them where they needed to go. She was scared now, because something was wrong, something that she could feel deep in her soul. The very lands around her felt like she had just flown into a void, and she had never felt anything like that before.

Gannon let out a curse as Sylrenya darted off toward the area he explicitly didn’t want her to head toward. Likewise, Kayl, fearing for the little fae, urged his horse forward with a shout, his mount quickly darting away at a gallop. “Dammit! Take to the sky Brageet!” His companion didn’t need any further urging and quickly launched off her perch and up into the air. Urging his horse forward, Gannon was quick to follow Kayl through the trees and foliage as he chased after Sylrenya. This wild approach into territory that was clearly dangerous was exactly what he hadn’t wanted to do, but there was no way he wouldn’t chase after Kayl – for all they knew this was the source of the recent disappearances!

Racing toward the clearing, Gannon did his best to avoid as many low hanging branches as he could, but he couldn’t dodge them all. By the time Gannon caught up with Kayl and Silme, he and his mount had more than one scratch or gouge from an ill placed, low hanging branches. Ignoring a particularly nasty scratch on his cheek, Gannon settled his mount next to Kayl’s. Eyes scanning the clearing, Gannon remained quiet as he took in the scene, his senses stretching out as he surveyed what Silme and Kayl pointed out. But as they spoke, he shook his head and placed his finger against his lips, silently telling them to be quiet. Given all the commotion, if there was anything or anyone in the area it would know of their presence, but that didn’t mean they needed to draw further attention to themselves.

Activating his raiment, Gannon reached out toward Silme mentally, wanting to create a mind link with her so they could communicate at will. Silme would feel almost a warm sensation enveloping her as Gannon formed the bond with her. After a few moments, he spoke directly into her mind. <<’Be calm, Sylrenya…’>> He knew that the sensation would startle her and make her a little uneasy at first, but they needed to have a way to speak freely without being overheard or giving away any intentions. <<’We need to proceed with the utmost caution, Silme. Something has clearly happened here, and we might be placing ourselves in danger.’>>

When he was sure that Silme would stay put, Gannon then reached out toward Kayl with his power, creating the same mental link with him. <<’Kayl…we need to use the utmost caution. Going forward, we will communicate this way.’>> Gannon said as he looked directly at Kayl, making eye contact once Kayl realized that Gannon’s voice had resonated through his mind instead of his ears.

<<’I don’t know what could have done this. As far as I can tell, there hasn’t been a fire or any other natural event here – there’s no outward damage, just the eerie discoloration.’>> Gannon explained to Silme and Kayl. It was possible that the vegetation had been affected by some kind of blight, it would explain why the animals had left as well – poisoning of the land was serious. But again, the plants didn’t look withered, merely grey, almost as if the energy within them had been sapped.

<<’We will proceed with the utmost caution. Brageet will fly ahead to assess the area. Silme, do not fly ahead. I know you are worried, but we need to be cautious of the area.’>> That being said, Brageet circled toward the greyed area of the forest. After a few minutes, she gave the ‘all clear’, letting them know that there were no obvious threats, however, she warned Gannon of something else.

<<’Gannon….I cant be sure, but it looks like the fae village….was attacked.’>> This news only made him warier of approaching the village. Was it possible that Silme had escaped an attack from long ago but didn’t remember the event? Or was this more recent? There was only one way to find out….

<<’Kayl, be on guard and watch Silme closely, it looks like the village was attacked. Brageet cant see any aggressors, but that doesn’t mean we may not be walking right into a trap.’>> Gannon said, speaking directly to Kayl as to not alarm or upset Sylrenya. With his bow drawn, an arrow at the ready, the trio approached the village…

Sylrenya couldn't help but screech in surprise at Gannon's voice in her head. She snapped her eyes back at him for a moment when she realised that he wasn't speaking aloud, but she could still hear him. Realizing that this must have been his 'power', Syl nodded, showing that she understood. She sat in Kayl's palm quietly, waiting for them for whatever tey decided was the right approach for them.

Kayl wasn't as surprised when he suddenly heard Gannon's voice in his head. He too looked back at Gannon as the Court mage spoke to him, and he also nodded when he realized that this was Gannon's raiment at work. << 'So how do I... speak, do I just think? Are you reading my thoughts?' >> Kayl asked through their mental link, trying to understand so that he could speak in return if needed. He wouldn't have even though it would be possible if it hadn't been pointed out to him. Since Gannon gave them orders to speak in this way, Kayl knew there must have been a way to return speech. << 'I think I've got it...' >> Kayl said again as he listened to the rest of what Gannon had to say.

Kayl nodded once more before letting Syl up onto his shoulder again and dismounting his horse. Unlike Gannon, Kayl was not armed with a ranged weapon and he felt he would be better ready to handle any threats from the ground. Leaving his horse at the edge of the forest clearing, Kayl followed Gannon slowly as they entered the discolored woods. It took them several minutes to reach another much smaller clearing in the forest. Here Sylrenya suddenly flew off of Kayl's shoulders and to the center of the clearing. Although Gannon had warned her, she couldn't help herself at this point. "What... What happened here!..." She let out as the tears started to well up in her eyes. Unlike Gannon and Kayl, she didn't have the mental fortitude to stay quiet and use the mental link. As soon as they entered the village, everything she saw tore at her. Looking in and around the trees, she started to fly from one tree to tree next, flying into what looked like small holes burrowed into the sides of the trees. Some were high up, built into knots and onto branches, others were very low to the ground, and dug into the roots. The one thing that they all had in common, was that they were all empty, and the trees themselves looked bleak and frail.

"W-where are they?" She let out without thinking as she came from one of the roots below flying high into the air and looking around before looking back down at the ground in shock. The grass... there was something about the grass that looked odd. Flying just a bit higher, she looked down at the clearing and gasped. As she looked down at the ground, she could see that all of the grass was bent over and sharply leaning in a giant circle towards a point in the clearing, like some kind of center point that they were somehow forced to lean towards, almost as if they were reaching for it. But nothing was there... Nothing at all. Flying to the center of the grass circle. Sylrenya landed on the ground and started to cry, her mind completely blank at that moment.

As Kayl watched her dart around aimlessly, He was about to call out to her when he heard her call out. << 'Oh no...' >> Kayl thought to Gannon as he watched as Syl went from burrow to burrow, from dwelling to dwelling, from home to home. << 'I think we found it, Gannon, but...' >> He though just as Syl came flying down and stopping in the grass, crying. He didn't have to say much else, it would be obvious that Sylrenya wasn't taking it very well. Keeping his guard up, however, Kayl started to look around, making sure that they truly alone in this place. After a moment, as he stepped around the small clearing, he noticed something out of the corner of his eye and narrowed a bit as he stepped a bit further. He couldn't believe his eyes. << 'Gannon... Syl... Syl? Can she hear me?' >> Kayl thought while looking back and seeing that only Gannon was responding to him. "Pssst... Syl!" Kayl called out to her, getting her attention. As she looked up at him, Kayl pointed up into the tree line once more, and Sylrenya followed his gesture, her eyes going wide as she saw what Kayl was pointing out. Another Fae...

"Hey... H-hey!" Sylrenya called out as she flew up to the tree branch where the Fae was hanging. 'Hanging?' She thought as she neared him, wondering why he wouldn't turn and acknowledge her. She flew around him so that she could see his face and she gasped loudly while covering her mouth. "A-Argos?" She said aloud as she looked at his face in complete horror. The look on his face was complete terror, nothing but fear and terror, and his face wouldn't change that expression. Not just his face. As she took a closer look, she saw that he wasn't moving at all, not his wings, not his arms, or legs. He was literally dangling from the branch, his foot caught in a knot where two branches met, wedged deeply in place. "Argos! Whats wrong!" Syl started to call out as she tried to help him up. She gasped again as she touched his arms, realizing that there was something wrong with him, because not only wasn't he moving, but his body was completely still and in an odd pose as if his body was completely rigid. "KAYL! GANNON! PLEASE! HELP HIM!" She screamed out, her voice filling with the same horror that was stuck on this poor Fae's face.

Seeing Silme flit from tree to tree looking into all the little crevices for her kin nearly broke his heart. There was no sign of them. Aside from the strange affect on the tall grass, something that he’d never seen before, there was no indication that the fae were around or that they’d been here. But, Silme was adamant that this was the right place – this was her village. But where was everyone?

Gannon’s gut churned with unease. This place…it wasn’t right. Something was off. It was similar to that feeling when you walked into a home with a crocked foundation – you knew something was off, but you couldn’t put your finger one it right away.

Looking to Kayl, he shook his head. <<’This of me as the channel. I can speak to both of you, but you two cannot.’>> Gannon clarified as he continued to scan the area while Silme settled in the grass, crying. As Kayl spoke out loud, pointing to toward a nearby tree, Gannon urged his mount forward, his gaze scanning until it landed upon a fae, seemingly caught in a tree.

There was no stopping Silme. She darted up into the air, calling out to the other fae, who seemed unresponsive. Was the poor thing dead? It took no time at all for Silme to determine that the other fae was indeed alive, but somehow unresponsive. Before either Kayl or Gannon could offer any aid, Silme began to panic and scream for help, frantic for someone to help her friend.

Given how high up the fae was, it would be hard to reach and would take time, time they might not have. <<’Brageet, can you get him?’>> Brageet, who was circling overhead, called out in response. “Silme, move away from the fae, Brageet is going to come and retrieve him.” As soon as Simle had moved away, Brageet swooped in to hand on the brand. Hopping down the way toward the knot, she observed the fae for a moment.

<<’His face is frozen in terror, Gannon. I can hear a heartbeat, but it’s weaker than I’d expect…’>> Even as she reached out her taloned foot, the fae didn’t respond – this wasn’t a good sign. Gently, Brageet circled her claw around the fae before spreading her wings and gliding from the branch toward Gannon.

Pulling his bow over his shoulder, Gannon opened his hands and cupped them together. Brageet was quick to deposit the fae into his hands before landing on his shoulder and settling in to observe. As gently as he could, Gannon examined the fae. The fae’s cloaking ability, the one that made him invisible seemed to flicker like a flame. One moment he was there, the next gone, but then he was back again. It was the oddest thing – like he couldn’t properly control his magic. One thing was apparent, whatever had happened to him had left him paralyzed and with his weak heartbeat, it was likely that he was fading fast.
