i'm buddhist, but i don't really practice it, but i guess neither do many other "buddhists"

oh, i've got a question though, what is the definition of being atheist
is it not believing in a god, or is it not believing in religion
when i ask someone, what's your religion? and they answer atheist....

well, if it's not believing in a god, then fine, but that would technically make buddhism an atheist religion (since technically, buddhism doesn't have a god)
and if it's not believing in a religion, then why'd they answer being atheist to what's their religion xp confused

Atheism is not a religion. Whoever says that their 'religion is atheism' is mistaken.

I think it is having no religion.

Technically, atheism means not believing in any deities. According to Wikipedia, Buddhism can be classified as an atheistic religion. O= Oxymoron?

But for me, by atheism, I mean I don't have a religion. 3nodding

But I think it's because you can argue that Buddhism is more a set of, like, philosophies and guidelines for living.. since it doesn't really involve that much active worship [correct me if I'm wrong, svp]..

Atheism stands for no believe in god(s) (monotheism - one god, polytheism - a lot of gods). I think when the word was formed noone tought of Buddhism... But if someone calls himself an atheist he probably doesn't believe in afterlife, rebirth, ghosts and stuff like this neither. And there are people who believe in things like that but still aren't in any religion. So gods and religions seem to be two different things.

Wow I don't think I've posted in here before (I don't come to Guilds or Gaia that often) but my family is also very similar to Tokioka's.
My family are Buddhist, but never forced on my brother and I. I actually don't think I have a specific religion I follow. I just prefer to stay on the sidelines and just learn and furthur my understanding of various religions. If people ask me what my religion is though, I always say I'm a Buddhist. 3nodding

I'm a Protestant Christian and proud of it!!!
But my pride seems to be my problem. sweatdrop Humbleness is what I'm trying to get myself to do. biggrin
I was born in a Christian family and I believe in our religion.
I believe everything that is in the Bible.
If you disagree with me, do not hesitate to.
BTW- God is not a "thing" or person. The only word that describes him is God. Not the lower-case god.

I'm Catholic.... which KINDA counts as a type of Christianity since Christianity is like another religion that was seperated FROM the Roman Catholics. xd
