Iv'e gotta be honest. When I was about 9 or 10 I was going through alot, so it was an extremely stressful time for me, and back then I went to church every Sunday while never learning anything at all. Not only that, but there are many stereotypes to christians, and I that was what I was raised to be, so I felt like I constantly had to prove that just because I was christian, it didn't mean that I did the same thing other would do or wear the same clothes, or whatever it is. Either way, it was too much weight on my shoulders, so I decided to give up religion to get rid of that bit of stress. Not only that, but I always hear of some fight or issue the was started from a few people having different religions, so I figured if that's what really causes so many problems, why have it at all? Although I do beleive that there is some superior spiritual force, I'd rather not waste energy worshiping something. Don't get me wrong. I understan that others find a peacful place because of religion as well, and I'm glad for those who do, but it's just a bit too much on my plate and ain't exactly my cup of tea.

My theory is very simple: When mankind was just evolving, we created religion to explain what our primitive science couldn't. Now that we can prove nearly everything, the idea of God is obsolete. Keep in mind that this is coming from a 14-year-old.

Your theory fails to explain any modern religion. Unless your saying that the first religion was created in that way and all others spawned off of it. Also if we are no longer so primitive, why do we still have religions?

I have been asked this question before. The reason for my 'belief' is because in my opinion the Bible is bogus. It was written a long time ago by some guys that are dead now and nobody can prove anything by it. Nobody was around for a majority of the Old Testiment so how is it proof that any of it is true. Plus, the actual Bible has been revised so many times, that compared to the original itself, the story could be completely different.
Look at the world today. How can you believe in God? is he was really in exsistance, don't you think that maybe he would help his dying people? is God is such a forgiving peson, don't you think that he will forgive us for killing his son all those years ago and send one again to heal his broken world that he so 'lovingly' created. God is nothing more then a false image instored by foolish humans as a way to hope for better after death.
Besides, can you get a more hypocrital person then God?

He is so amazing and has done many great things in my life. I think there really is no reason not to believe in God. In my opinion, the whole reason why people are doubting God is because they're scared and stubborn. Most people say they don't think there is any real reason to believe in God. LOOK AROUND YOU! How could this wonderful Earth have been created by CHANCE? There is no doubt that God is working in our lives. How could The Big Bang theory possible be true? Is it even possible to create someting out of nothing? In the very very beginning, there was absolutely nothing (but God of course). Even if there was a Big Bang, there had to be something before that to allow it to happen. wahmbulance Open your eyes. God is real. He loves you, and he wants you to believe in Him.

marshjazz Simple logic. God is supposed to be good. Do you see alot of good happening? The bible is against homosexual marriage, yet most of the world has agreed that discrimination is bad. How can a god that discriminates be good? The bible contradicts itself in everyother sentence. And people can twist it's meaning millions of different ways. So simply I'll answer your question with a question. Why believe in a god? The bible wasn't even written by god. By people who were seeing ghosts and crazy. Why believe in a second hand source written by people who belong in an insane asylum? Understand that I am not Atheist. I am not any religion, I'm against all religions. I don't believe that one should state all their beliefs in one word. I think a system of beliefs should be harder to explain than "I'm catholic" or "I'm atheist" I think that religion doesn't promote free thinking and instead incourages "follow the leader" behavior. I agree with all you said. You brought up some very good points.

The Melodious M I was just curious what kind of reasoning and motivation it may take for someone to become an atheist and not believe in any possible exist of God. I would love to hear some intelligent conversation on this topic. Please feel free to respond. I didn't 'become' an atheist. I've just never believed in God. It's a ridiculous concept to me. There's no motivation involved.

Read the rebutle before you agree. rolleyes But of course that would require a rise in your intelligence and you being Christian wouldn't want that, now would you? Look around you? I'm looking, but all I see is my room. But I also see disease, war, and poverty. Oh, but let me guess, all that is humans fault. Well, no, it's god's fault for creating a flawed race. How can someone who is perfect make a flawed race anyway? You ask how a world can be created by chance? Imagine two balls in a large space, never stoping, never slowing or speeding up. They just go when they hit a "wall" they bounce back. EVENTUALLY they will hit each other. And STOP USING THAT GOD AWFUL LOGICAL FALACULY. NO NOTHING HAD TO BE CONTROLING THE BIG BANG. You know what how about this. How did god just all of a sudden come into being? Something had to make him happen. Oh look, no answer? I guess that makes you wrong. See how I can use logical falacies? They're great little tools for people who don't belong in a debate. I mean he couldn't have existed for all time becuase what made time start if he wasn't around to start time? Hmmm? Also, if you knew much about the big bang, you'd know that yes it is possible to create something out of "nothing" as you call it. See everything with the strike, that is everything that you can't back up. Oh look, what is that? Your whole post basically. Also, you have no experience not believing in god, so you wouldn't know what modivates people to not believe in him. Thank you for your weak reply, all it did was reinforce my opinions. biggrin

I'd just like to point out to all those listing a "bogus bible" as their reason. The bible is for the most part only for Christians. There are still 2 well known God worshiping religions, with less contradictions ><

WEll if god is supposed to be this all loving guy who loves every single thing he ever made, ect...then why does he let his world be like this? war, hunger, disease, depression, and bankrupt governments. and anyway, look at a lot of of the evil people in the world. some of the most evil and mean people are christian. modern day christians are just brainwashed. i hate christianity and i am SO happy that i finally came to my senses and became FREE! he never answers prayers anyway. when my grandpa got outta the hostpitals from some serious injuries, people were thanking god, not the MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY that saved him. *sighs in disgust* people if you want to be free to believe what you want, ditch god. you'll be happier, trust me!

One thing I don't agree with that almost all the atheists and nonbelievers of God(s) have been saying is that they don't believe in god because the world is full of death, war, poverty, depression. That's not a big reason to not believe in god, actually one would think that you would believe that god would take you out of this seemingly hopeless situation. At any rate, this world isn't full of death, poverty, war. Yes there is bad but with bad, there's a lot of beauty. I'm atheist and even I can see some of beauty in the world, I just don't believe a god created it. ********, nature is really friggin' beautiful and if you can't see that, then you might as well be as blind as some of the Christians here.

I became an agnostic for a while when I was around 14-16. My reason for it was because for my whole life I was raised as a Christian and whenever I questioned my mother why God did certain things in the Bible, for example, when He killed the firstborn child of every family in Egypt who did not put lamb's blood on their door, my mother would simply say to me, "Don't question God! He has a reason for everything He does." That frustrated and irritated me and I just couldn't understand it. Why couldn't I question my own God? Why couldn't I ask why He chose to do such things? So in a way I cast away my beliefs and I became agnostic for about 2 years. In a way I became one of those annoying teenage atheist kids that are always like, "Quit shoving your religion down my throat." and that think they are smarter than everyone else because they don't believe in a God. (No offense to other atheists out there, I know there are more intelligent atheists, like g0at here who is a very intelligent, atheist, YouTuber that I am subscribed too, but some of them are just annoying, just like how some Christians are annoying and really do shove their beliefs down your throat, for example the door to door Jehova's Witnesses and Mormons. xD ) lol Jenova's witnesses.Anyways, so I guess when I finally met my boyfriend he sort of opened my eyes up to the Christian religion and he told me that the only way to become closer to God is by questioning Him. I was shocked I was like, "You question your God?" And he was like, "Of course I do! If I didn't how would I ever understand Him? Why would anyone follow their faith blindly? That's retarded." So suddenly I had this interest in like understanding and studying the Bible. I'll admit I haven't gotten through the whole thing yet, I skip parts here and there, Old Testament to New Testament to Old Testament, and it is difficult to understand, but I've learned a lot of things and I feel closer to God and Jesus now, and I really do love Jesus and everything he teaches just makes so much sense once you understand it. I don't care if people choose to be atheist, while I may be a Christian I am also a libertarian (which is someone who strongly believes in the doctrine of free will), a pro-choice woman, and a supporter of abolishing all state laws regarding the illegalization of gay marriage. In a way, based on my experiences in my life I can sort of understand how atheists feel and where they are coming from so I truly believe all humans should have the freedom of religion and freedom FROM religion.

I've always sort of felt this way. I've always been kind of dragged into something that I never really asked for my entire life. Every single weekend, they'd drag me to church and said "God will make you a better person." I thought, well, was I really that bad off to begin with? I mean, you cannot possibly sound any more selfish than "God." Worship me and me only and I will praise you with heaven and eternal life in the most wonderful place. If you don't praise me, you'll get eternal life in HELL, where you'll burn in misery for ever and ever. Sounds kind of pretentious, doesn't it? And I mean, come on. If there were people walking on water then, howcome there aren't any ridiculously amazing miracles going on right now? It'd be a hell of a lot easier for me to believe if they had disciples running around saying "I'M SPEAKING IN THE NAME OF THE LORD AND HE SAYS PRAISE HIM."
... Actually, I wouldn't believe it then either. I'd just think that person was nuts.
Anyways, the point is, religion is hypocritical. They tell you to believe in God but not in anyone else's God. They tell you that all the others are imposters or misleading, but what makes them think that theirs is so much more high and mighty? Oh wait, I know, you're supposed to have that thing called faith. That thing where I blindly put in all my heart and soul into something that I don't even have any proof of is at all real? Yeah, no thanks. I'd rather put my faith in a milk jug than God because they have about the same statistics.
I've been agnostic for pretty much all my life. I've never had much of an interest in faith, and I don't think I ever will. The closest I ever came to having a religion that I liked was Wicca, and truthfully, I think that was more just to spite my family than anything. No offense to any Pagans. Y'all can believe what you want. But as far as I'm concerned, religion means nothing to me.
