Nerida
Princess of Mayim

Royal Appearance

Back down on the first level, the princess, now wearing her royal garments laid upon the large blue creature. The creature kneeled upon the ground, making the girls body move to the floor. The creature then transformed back into his smaller form, moving closer to her face, nudging her. "Princess, princess, wake up....please", it pleaded, calling to her. Nerida slowly began to stir.

A big slap sounded as a large glob of dragon spit, mixed with something else that was unpleasant to think about, hit the wall as Fira gave one wing a hard flick to get the substance that covered her backside off. The phoenix stared at it for a moment with slight disgust, “That’s one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever been through.” Pausing for a moment the bird noticed the threshold to the tenth floor standing before her just to the left. The phoenix took a glance up at the dragon that was still on the fourteenth and decided there might be hope left yet and she may be able to find a way up to the top past the dragon on another floor. So she turned off the stairway and into the tenth floor that was filled with rows of shelves filled with rows of books.

The tenth floor was marginally less dangerous. To be sure, nothing the size of the dragon lurked around there. The books were snappish, though, and the only other means of upward mobility to be found there would be the closed doors of the elevator. They wouldn't open if one were to push the button, but the lights would turn on and a soft chime would be heard. It wasn't the elevator's fault that it had been smashed at the bottom of its shaft or that a terrifying shadow beast was doing battle with a junior librarian within it. The place was obviously lacking upkeep since its former owners had been so rudely ejected from the city.

When the young man was done, the nightmarish monster was tied up in a big metal wire bow to the roof of the elevator shaft.
Swingint to one side of the shaft, he pushed on one part of the wall, making it open to reveal a secret passage way where he promptly continued to enjoy his tea time.

Fira the Phoenix

No dragon was defiantly a good sign though the books were some Fira defiantly did not want to touch and found that out rather quickly. She had started to absently run her fingers over the bindings of books on the shelf, but quickly stopped that when one when one slid off the shelf and she was pretty sure it had snapped at her finger. It just about caught one of her fingers as the hard binding slammed shut with a loud bang before the book fell to the floor making her nearly jump out of her skin.

So the phoenix pressed on folding her arms and keeping her hands to herself as she more warily eyed the books on the shelves. Eventually she did come up on the elevator doors that looked as though it as in rough condition themselves and she only wondered how the elevator condition was. First she tried the button and only the lights and chime worked, however the doors didn’t budge and Fira sighed biting her lip lightly before her staff flickered into existence in her hand once again. Glancing around the girl first made sure there was no one around who would get made at her once she tried this then wedged the butt of her staff in between the doors and as hard as she could tried to pry the doors open thinking if the elevator was out of service, she at least could make use of the shaft being a winged creature.

Kasark came to the library after the Market held nothing of interest to him, His book tucked in his coat once more. As he walks along the long halls, he spots someone ahead of him, a woman, it looked like, who nearly lost her finger to a carnivorous book. He picks up his pace, glancing at the large selection of books on the shelves.

Wondering how the hell Kasark could possibly have entered into the tenth floor from outside, the library promptly opened a hole down to the first below his feet, complete with slippery chute.
((Please make sure you check where in the area people actually are, Kasark.))

The doors before Fira gave about as much resistance as a normal set of elevator doors are wont to. They'd budge, but only with effort, and they would do so jerkily and threaten to stick the entire time. The elevator shaft was cool and dark, much like most. The massive shadow beast just barely tied to the top of the shaft would make a lovely surprise as it glared downwards.

For a moment Fira thought her staff was going to break, but eventually with a large groan the staff finally won the struggle and got the doors to open only a few inches but it gave her a better point to work from. She shifted her staff and attempted to wedge the door open a little more and it groaned and it began to open and grinded to halt for one moment before the doors finally slid open in sudden and quick way that made the girl stumble slightly. Once she got her footing again, Fira stepped into the threshold of the elevator doors and peered into the shaft. Phoenixes had a reputation for not being able to see in the dark very well and this was true for her though she glanced down and then up the shaft.

The girl lit a fireball in her hand and leaned down dropping it down into the shaft and watching as it fell and harmlessly dissipate once it hit the bottom. While flying out in open air, height wasn’t that scary, but somehow elevator shafts or standing on building ledges outside put an emphasis on how far below the ground really was. To tell the truth Fira would have taken a ledge outside on a building over an elevator shaft anyway simply because it was more confined and there really wasn’t enough room to open her wings and catch herself if she fell, at least not without slapping them against the walls.

Turning her focus from the depth or height of the cave and glanced around the level she was at and found herself smiling at the sight of a metal ladder bolted to the side of the shaft running all the way from the bottom to the top to the right side of the doors on each level. She grabbed and held onto the metal ladder rather tightly as she carefully stepped off of the elevator door threshold on the tenth level and onto the metal ladder. Slowly Fira began the long climb up as her shoes make a distinctive clanking every time she stepped up onto one of the metal bars of the ladder while she made sure her hands had a constant firm grip on the ladder.

Nerida
Princess of Mayim

Royal Appearance

Nerida began to stir, her head turning to the side, her eye's laying upon her small sea creature friend. Placing a hand in her head, she sat up slowly, in a daze. "What happened?", she asked. "You were struck and sent flying from the staircase. Are you alright princess?", the creature asked. Nerida nodded, while getting to her feet. Not paying much attention that she was in her royal attire now, the spell that she had placed upon herself that changed the appearance of her clothes had reversed when she got struck by the dragons tail. "Yes I'm fine." Nerida then turned her head upwards, towards the staircase, in hopes of spotting the creature once more. He indeed was blocking her way to go further. So how in the world would she ascend higher? And who was going to take care of this? So many question rattled her brain, just about making it hurt. But Nerida placed it all aside, going back to the front desk where the shadowy figure stood. She knew he couldn't speak, but he could a least inform her of what was happening, or how it happened, as well as how to get around the obstacle. "Why is there a dragon on that floor?"

The shadow-beast tied to the top of the elevator shaft started to drool slightly. One might wonder why so many creatures with so much saliva lived in a library, but one might also wonder why most libraries had a children's section. The damage done to the books would probably be comparable. The pheonix would likely not feel the large globs splatter, but she might feel a light drizzle or mist as those smaller globlets splattered, too. The ladder was also getting slipperier the higher she climbed.

The massive apparition at the front desk shrugged as if to say, "Why not? Where would you put a dragon?"

The texture and feel of the ladder changed gradually and Fira got more and more comfortable with the ladder the further up she went, so she didn’t notice slipperiness not until she raised her left foot to step on a higher bar of the ladder. Just like the other bars before it fitted nicely between the nook of her shoe that separated the heel from the flat bottom but when she began to put weight on it and lifted her other foot to bring it to the same bar her left foot slid right off the bar and she gave a scream. Slipping off of a ladder when she was somewhere between the twentieth or twenty fifth floor was bad but she also slipped in a non traditional way. In stead of her foot sliding back and off of the ladder it slipped forward down between the bar and the wall, her leg slid all the way down until the back of her knee.

When she slipped she didn’t have a firm grip on the ladder bars after getting comfortable with climbing for a while so her hands slipped form the ladder as well and she desperately flailed her hands out to grab the ladder and fail, falling backwards. Lucky half of her leg was caught between the ladder and the wall and stopped her fall, but at a price. She was handing with the back her knee curved over one bar of the ladder and her leg stuck behind the ladder, and it was a rather uncomfortable for her leg to be twisted and supporting her weight in such an awkward way. The phoenix bit her lip and clamped her eyes closed, whimpering a little as pain surged up from her leg letting her know how close she was to twisting and breaking the entire thing.

After the pain died down she opened her eyes and quickly realized she was going to have a hard time getting out of this situation as her hands grasped around the hem of her shirt and kept it from falling down over her face. Gradually with one hand still holding her shirt down she tried to curve her body up and grab hold of the ladder. If she could straiten her body once again then she could probably wiggle her leg free and slowly she was able to grab the bars and pull herself up enough to put her other foot back on the ladder and wrapped her arms around the side bars of the ladder for a tight grip while she looked down at her pinned leg and huffed and grunted as she twisted, trying to jerk her leg out from between the ladder and wall.

Now that she was no longer moving quite so much and now that she was at least partially horizontal, the dripping of the warm saliva might have started to become noticeable. That, and there were two points of dim light glaring down from the heights of the shaft.

Nerida
Princess of Mayim

Royal Appearance

Nerida gave a heavy sigh. as the large shadowy apparition gave nothing but a shrug. Turning away from him, her eye's gazing around that floor of the library, she spoke. "I wish I could hear you speak." There had to be another way up there, she knew it. And as her eye's looked around, her sea creature, who stood by her side, nudged her. "Princess, we've stayed here long enough. It's time to go. I fear your father may have suspected that you are gone. We must return." Nerida shook her head. "But this place intrigues me, despite the hit I took from the dragon up there. I wish to stay a bit longer" The small fox-looking creature growled in frustration. "But we must", he insinuated. Nerida looked down, and then knelled in front of him, giving him a gentle rub. "Please. Just awhile longer" The creature couldn't deny his princess after such a rub and staring into her eye's. He couldn't deny her when she gave her such a look. So sighing, he gave up, allowing her to stay.

Satisfied, Nerida stood back up and turned to the shadowy apparition. "Is there any other way up, besides the stairwell?", she asked. Hopefully there was.

The ghostly figure gestured to the elevator door across the room. Were the princess to push the button, a chime would ding and a light would come on, but the elevator would not arrive. It would attempt to do so, but being smashed at the bottom of one's shaft tends to put a damper on such plans. Anyways, every time some one pushed one of those elevator buttons, the bindings on the giant shadow-beast trapped inside loosened a little bit.

At least these doors would open a little bit.
