Beth followed, wondering what she had gotten herself into.

Quen felt his pulse quicken with excitement. This was perfect! As a weapons specialist, range was innevitably going to be his biggest weakness. This jutsu would definitely give him an edge in battle. And it was the first one he was going to learn!

Quen took a look at the scroll. It seemed relatively simple. He memorized the hand signs after a few moments of scanning the scroll, then took a stance and faced the direction his sensei had performed the jutsu. Taking a deep breath, he focussed. Moving slowly and delibirately, he formed the hand signs as best he could. Focussing his chakra in is hands, he followed the last symbol by aiming his palm in the right direction. Not suprisingly, nothing happened. His hand was tingling, but the jutsu has failed. Quen was slightly disapointed, but not discouraged. He knew he was going to have to practice much more. (1/4)

"That's good."Kyo said."Keep going on your own. I'll be right back."Kyo made a quick handsign and disappeared in a flash. He needed to get something.

Quen barely noticed his master's departure. He gave a near imperceptable nod when he heard him speaking. Quen was fully focussed on the task at hand. Ignoring the outside world, he picked up the scroll again. He read slowly, determined not to miss a thing. Sure he had it this time, he sat the scroll down and returned to his stance. He took a deep breath and began the jutsu. His hands moved a bit faster this time. With determination, he aimed his palm. He felt something happen, but it wasn't outwardly noticeable. He knew he'd done it right. He guessed now it was just a matter of practice. (2/4)

Quen didn't even bother to pick up the scroll again. He resumed his position and took a few seconds to breath, feeling the ebb and flow of his chakra. His eyes were closed as he focussed. Sure he could get it this time, he performed the handsigns. His hands flicked from one sign to the other with ease. He was getting better at this. Feeling his chakra flow, he aimed his palm and released it. A small breeze trickled between his fingers. Common, he thought. One more time! (3/4)

Quen had begun to sweat. He didn't exactly have a complete mastery of his chakra, so his stamina was beginning to wear down. He still had enough steam for plenty of practice. Quen took his stance. This time, he didn't even hesitate or pause to gather his thoughts. In quick succesion, he performed the handsigns. He felt a rush of chakra run to his arms from his torso. He made the final sign and had barely had enough time to aim his palm before the jutsu released. A large gale shot from his palm, ruffling the grass and howling as it made its way across the field. (4/4)Quen's face split into a rare grin. "Haha! That was awesome! I finally did it!" Quen was ecstatic. He got over it pretty quickly. His master hadn't been there to see it. Not only that, but he was feeling unruly tired. He wasn't exhausted, but he could do with a breather.

He found the nearest boulder and plopped down ontop of it. He'd just learned his first wind jutsu. He wondered what he'd be learning next. Unless his master was hiding somewhere, he wasn't near the field. Quen doubted he was hiding. His warrior sense hadn't gone off and he found it to be very reliable. Thinking about the warrior sense, his thoughts drifted to his father and all he'd taught him and his brother. He reached into his shirt and pulled out the adorned scroll again. Should I start this while I'm waiting? he thought. The bigger question is, am I ready to start?...

((My style is close to being approved. There was a small issue with the final stage. He mistook it as an immortality jutsu. Honest mistake. Should be cleared up by tomorrow. Hope so anyway.))

"Sorry that took so long."Kyo said, bounding into the training grounds."How are you coming?"

Quen grinned wickedly. He'd just been struck with inspiration. Rather than tell his master, he was going to show him. He figured that his teacher would be able to dodge it and that he had enough chakra to pull it off. He still wanted to try just to see what his teacher would think.

Quen sat up and placed both hands behind his back. He began weaving signs. He first made a clone that appeared behind the boulder he was sitting on. He then weaved the new signs he'd learned to perform the gale jutsu. His hands moved fast. Just before the jutsu was released, he put his palms down flat on the rock. The jutsu released and a burst of air shot Quen several feet into the air. Reaching into his shuriken pouch, he pulled out 3 shuriken wedged between his fingers. Weapons in hand, he performed the signs again. Still in the air, he aimed his palm at the teacher and released the jutsu. High speed air forced the shuriken towards their target at remarkable speed. Simultaeneously, the clone jumped up above the boulder and performed its own wind jutsu. Either the teacher would dodge, which was most likely, or he'd be pushed back by the clone's jutsu before the shuriken landed.

Kyo cocked his head to the side. Rather than saying anything, he quietly pondered why Quen had made a wind clone. His agitation and curiosity were put aside when Quen sent the shuriken flying towards him. Kyo grinned, seeing through his students intentions quite easily. The second jutsu had been to ensure Kyo's safety, but Kyo was going to turn that back on him.Kyo stepped to the side. Feeling the off wind from the combination of the two jutsu, Kyo opened his wings and glided even further away."Ah, Quen, be careful, now I'm too far away to be hit!"Kyo said excitedly."Learning when to use your jutsu is just as important as learning the jutsu. For example, I could hit you with Ninjutsu from here, but your weapon style is close range."He explained with a grin.

Quen grinned widely. "I could always run. I've got the head start, now. If you were my equal in battle, I'd be disadvantaged, but seeing as you're my superior, the further you are, the better. Retreat would be the better option." He scratched the back of his head and laughed. "And I'm kind of new to this." Quen performed a hand sign and dismissed the clone. "So, what'll we learn next?"

((Still having trouble with my style approval. Forgive me, Alicia, but he's left me no choice but to go over his head. I've sent you a PM entailing the details. I regret that I had to resort to this, but reasoning is not lildizzle's strong suit, inteligent as he is.))

Kyo grinned."Ninjutsu is long-ranged. If you are up against a Ninjutsu user, distance is your enemy, period. Even though I'm your superior, once you've trained a little, you could take me in a close ranged battle, fairly evenly."He reached into his satchel and removed a rather odd looking scroll."This is something I would normally not bother learning or teaching. But as I think it would most benefit you, I think we are going to give it a shot. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to give a small lecture. You see, your physical abilities are limited by your own concept of your abilities, in order to make sure you don't hurt yourself by going to far. We're going to break those limits. This means that yes, you are going to get hurt every time you use this technique. I think for now, just the first limit. The Initial Gate. I want you to focus on your chakra and try to gather more than you have before. Then get more. After that it get tricky. You have to focus your chakra into your muscles. Doing so should break the first gate, and give you access to more power than you normally have and let you move faster and hit harder. If you do it right, you'll feel it." Kyo opened the scroll so that Quen could consult the diagrams and further explanations inside. Kyo sat down and put his hands together, focusing on his chakra. It was almost a rush of wind, just enough to ruffled Kyo's hair, as Kyo unlocked his Initial Gate."See? You feel it?"

((Initial Gate unlocked 1/1, 4 for you. Man, it's good training you, I'm finally learning things I've been meaning to learn for a while))

After watching Quen master his first wind jutsu and practice it against Kyo, Yuki felt more inspired to learn this jutsu laying in her hands. Oddly enough. Shaking the feeling off, she unraveled the scroll and scrutinized the hand signs. This looked complex, to her at least. But she memorized each sign clearly in her mind. Taking a stance, she inhaled and carefully performed the hand signs. Trying to sense the chakra flowing in her hands, she did the final sign. As she had anticipated, there was no hint of lightning at all on her body. She frowned some but shrugged it off. Sooner or later she'd get this jutsu down.

(( hm blah i feel like i missed a lot >< ))
