Useful in its own way, but can be easily overcome by characters who have an emphasis on sheer, raw damage. XD It's kind of a rock-paper-scissors thing, really. Builds have their own strengths and weaknesses.

No, that's just being KO'd and unable to fight (unless you have a self-revive or someone else revives you... though, most people don't actually have revive-other skills). Your character will not be permanently killed unless you ask for it to happen or you do something so incredibly stupid that your character deserves it. rofl
