Ha ha.
SF > MK
Why?
Well I just had more fun playing SF back in the day then I did MK. When I get the chance to play SF4 for myself, I believe I'll still love it more in this day as well.
The only thing MK has over SF is the better plot/mythology and the movies.
But that's just me. I raise no argument, saying nothing more then I had more fun with it then I did with MK, and that, is all.
So please: Don't give me a debate I didn't ask for.

No, that's not all. Mortal Kombat also has more violence, which gives it points, I mean, come on. What better way to end a fight than with a juicy, bloody Fatality? But more importantly... Street Fighter characters... Well, the male ones anyway, are so fugly! Guile, Bison, Zangief, Sagat, they all look like they have tree stumps for faces. And Ken is supposed to be a pretty boy, what's his excuse? Tree Stump.

Ultra violence doesn't make a game ultra awesome. Don't get me wrong, fatalities are unique and fun to commit, but without them and the graphical content, I'd have to agree with Thee Stranger (He said something like this a while ago, maybe in another topic) and suggest the series might have fallen out of grace a long time ago if not for those features.
The new visual style looks spectacular, and I think the faces combine with it seamlessly, like that's how they should look.

Well, no, Mortal Kombat is awesome without the excess violence, as demonstrated by the T-Rated MK vs. DC, but the violence does add to MK's awesomeness. The visual style isn't new, they've always been ugly like that. There's a non-ugly version of Street Fighter out there: King of Fighters, so I'll rather go and play that.

Yes, you know, the best of the fighting franchises that stayed 2D into the 21st century.

It did get two 3d installments but I don't think either did well, so it's good they're sticking to 2d.

Yeah, but so did Street Fighter. I'm just saying, the MAIN series is in 2D. Even the new one they're making is with sprites. Now THAT'S gonna be sick. High Def 2D Sprites. That's what I wanted to see in fighting game for a long time.

Street Fighter II HD has been out for a while, so you can check that out.
Will you be renting IV?

Oh wow, I didn't even know it was like that. I just thought they upscaled it. That's cool.
I dunno if I'll be checking out IV. I was never into SF that much in the first place. Like I said, my alternative to Street Fighter has always been King of Fighters.

The visual style is definitely different in the new game. How did the designers describe it as such?: A flowing painting, with the screen being the canvas it is brushed on.
High def 2D Sprites? Dude, didn't a Street Fighter game like that come out recently for a downloadable service? SF2: Turbo HD Remix I believe it was called. There ya go.
[EDIT]: This is what I get for taking too long to type (And going to use the bathroom while replying). Angela said it first, so...Ignore my second statement.

It's gotten rave reviews and I think it's only $15. 3nodding
I like Street Fighter, but I suck at it. Combos are too hard difficult to enter quickly with a d-pad controller. sweatdrop
My two favorite series are Tekken and Soul Calibur. I like King of Fighters, but I only have '99 (and Capcom vs. SNK PRO if you count collaborations).
Is Orochi Saga any good?
Edit: @Stranger: Don't worry I've done the same thing. ^^

That's the graphic style. Yes, that has changed, and it's nice and pretty. But the artistic style itself, the way the characters look, their faces and all that, is the same as always. And they ain't got no alibi, if you know what I mean.

Chun-Li has a major case of Man-Hands in IV. sweatdrop
I know they were trying to even out her proportions, but the hands are a little too much...
