Domon nodded along, "Yes, this is definitely different than normal shikigami behavior. Usually they are summoned by an ommyouji. Folklore leave a lot out about what really goes on though; the ommyouji has to give a blood sacrifice in order to command the shikigami."
Jounouchi closed his eyes, thinking back on what he knew of folklore, "...ommyouji are practitioners of Ommyoudou, right...?"
Domon nodded, then noted Kaiba's blank stare, "Ommyoudou is a type of divination based on Chinese practices. Because ancient Japan could never make up its own religions; had to borrow everything from India and China and Korea. No respect for our own culture, they had." he rolled his eyes, "Anyway, it's essentially a form of occultism, but one of the few that isn't total bullshit. I'm surprised you don't know about such a big part of our cultural heritage." he eyed Kaiba disapprovingly.
"Kaiba doesn't believe in anything occult. Even though he's experienced a lot of it first hand." Jounouchi commented, "So the ommyouji have to give some blood to summon a shikigami, and shikigami haunt people?" he shivered.
Domon nodded, "However, for someone to give a shikigami two targets, they would have to give double the blood. And the original amount is already quite a lot. Someone who gave enough blood for two targets would most likely end up in the hospital. However it is still doable, so I suggest the two of you think of people who would considered both of you enemies. Maybe someone from your little card game tournaments that you've both beaten." he snorted.
((Yay. XD I was too lazy to make a new character so I borrowed him from a Team Fortress 2 RP where we have a bunch of original characters. He was already Japanese, so I decided he'd work best. He's a Demoman who's a total a*****e and only likes a few people. He's also misogynistic, and because he hates women so much, he's only interested in men. So that's why he's all, 'lawl you guys are gay but it's cool with me.'
Yeah, I will admit I prefer Arizona heat over lower temperature higher humidity. Though it's been fairly humid (and of course very hot) here for the past two or three weeks now. The worst was definitely Japan though. It was in the 90's there and super super humid, so it was just awful in the summer.))

Seto rolled his eyes at 'our cultural heritage'. He did not think ghosts counted as part of a heritage. Seto thought about enemies, and while he was sure he had several, and Jounouchi even probably had a few, he couldn't particularly think of common enemies. Any common enemies they once shared had either been dispatched or were no longer counted as enemies, at least of Jounouchi and his crew anyhow. 'I can't say we share any enemies, there aren't any in dueling atm, certainly none that would risk killing themselves to take out Jounouchi and I and not Yuugi, who is a much better duelist than Jounouchi could ever dream of being. Other than that we don't really run in the same circles. Do these shikigami have to be summoned? Do they have any sort of free will, and if so why would they go after someone of their own accord?' Seto asked, deciding identifying a common enemy wouldn't be likely.
((Well he's very cool. I think if I go to Japan it will be in Spring. Morgey has popped up on the TAS thread again if you are interested.))

Jounouchi huffed, "Yuugi's a better duelist than anyone. I can't even remember how many times he's beaten Kaiba." he smirked.
Domon considered, "Shikigami have free will, but they do not have the power to pull off what they do without a blood sacrifice first. They enjoy causing chaos, and they usually do not care who their targets are, so it just works out to target whoever they are told to by the one who gives them the sacrifice." he considered some more, "I suppose it is possible that someone payed with one sacrifice for the shikigami to target two people. If those people were together a lot and he could torment you both with the same attacks, he would have enough energy from one sacrifice to pull it off. That might be why the shikigami has been trying to keep you two together."
"...so we should separate?" Jounouchi asked.
"Separating would have advantages as well as disadvantages. Yes, it would divide the shikigami's energy. But if that situation, it would most likely choose one of you to focus on, and that one would end up dead. However, together the shikigami will be focusing on both of you at the same time, giving you more opportunities to escape and survive, with his attention divided."
((Yay. XD When I go back to Japan I want it to be in autumn. Spring would be cool for the festivals and cherry blossoms, but autumn has just the most perfect weather, and living in Arizona I already get to see lots of flowers, but not so many autumn leaves. And sweet, thanks for telling me! I kneed to leave in a few minutes but might try to squeeze out a quick post first.))

'So you're suggesting opportunities to escape and survive, but we can't do that indefinitely, and we most certainly cannot just stay together forever. How do we beat this thing once and for all?' Seto asked bluntly, deciding to skip the whys and whats and just move on to the solution already. That's what he as good at, solutions.
((I've never been so festivals and cherry blossoms would definitely be something I'd like to go for.))

"You need to find the ommyouji and have him call the spirit off. If the one who gave him the blood says the contract is null, then the shikigami will just go after whoever it pleases to use its current energy on. It could still choose to go after you, but most likely it will want to find a new, more interesting target." Domon explained, "That is why I suggested thinking of people who are enemies to the both of you." he leaned back, stretching.
((Yes, spring would still definitely be my second choice.))

'So wait, even calling off the contract doesn't necessarily make the thing go away? What use is putting all that effort into tracking down some unlikely common enemy if that isn't even necessarily going to stop it? What if it was only summoned on one of us and the other person just happens to be a fun side project for it? I think that would mean one of us might already fit the definition of more interesting target, and that won't help us at all! How do we stop it for good, guranteed?' Seto demanded angrily. He tried to remain puffed, large and imposing, but frankly his rant was entirely fueled by fear. Fear that he was right, that this thing had been summoned on Jounouchi, even if he didn't have as many enemies, which is why it was aggressively hurting his family. However, for some unknown reason, it had an invested interest in going after Seto himself, something he was selfishly not okay with.

Domon was not at all intimidated, just continuing to lean back into his stretch, "There is no way to really stop it. It's a spirit. You can't kill them or hurt them. So the point of going through all that effort tracking is because it's your best shot." he looked up at Kaiba with a lazy gaze, "...though you could always try talking or reasoning with it..." he looked serious for a moment before suddenly snorting, then breaking into a full laugh at the thought.
Jounouchi tensed as he watched Domon, clenching his hands into fists. He glanced at Kaiba and could see how upset the other was, and for some reason seeing this other guy make fun of him like that was just pissing him off, "Hey! This isn't something to laugh about! If there's any way we can stop this thing, even by talking to it, then we want to try it! So just be serious for a second and tell me if that's actually doable!"
Domon opened one eye, stopping the laughing as he looked at Jounouchi in amusement, "I wouldn't go so far as to say 'doable.' Possible, maybe, but just barely. Maybe you could offer the shikigami another blood sacrifice or offer to find it a better target, but since you're not ommyouji, it has no obligation nor desire to listen to you."
"Then could we become ommyouji?" Jounouchi asked impatiently.
"It takes either strong genetic heritage or years of study and practice." Domon replied.

'Would offering a blood sacrifice be an option to make it leave? Because I don't think finding another target is another option,' Seto replied tersely, except I may make an exception to not just sending this thing after an innocent person for you, Seto thought bitterly towards Domon. 'What exactly makes someone ommyouji? Knowing who'd likely be ommyouji by either blood or training might help us narrow down who summoned the thing at any rate,' Seto asked, trying to ascertain something useful within the little knowledge Domon seemed to have about actually dealing with the supernatural. What use was a man who could identify spirits but didn't know how to combat them? If this was truly Isis's best lead they were most definitely doomed.

Domon considered for a moment, then got up without a word and stalked off into a small side room.
Jounouchi looked over at Kaiba questioningly, as if he would know what he was up to, then awkwardly shifted and waited.
It took a few minutes before Domon returned with a large, dusty book. He walked back and plopped it onto the coffee table, dust flying everywhere.
"This is a record book of ommyouji lineage, as well as their history and practices. It has a family tree for the founders of the practice in Japan, but this book is a couple hundred years old still, so it won't have any modern additions." Domon paused as he thought over more, "Most descendants these days, even if they know their heritage, do not realize the practice is actually, you know, genuine. Only a few traditionalists keep up the real rituals and still know how to summon and use a shikigami. They would be the ones who would have to train a newcomer, not only on the summoning, but on also becoming ommyouji if that person does not have a strong enough lineage."

Seto sighed, irritated, as Domon's actions had in no way addressed his most important question. However, they were clearly dealing with a man who would only do things his way or in no way at all. Seto wanted the quickest possible way to banish or destroy this spirit, not to join a cult of crazies in the hopes of maybe becoming friends with a bloodthirsty ghost. 'Right then,' he said with mild sarcasm, picking up the dusty tome, 'guess we'll go read this ancient book, trace their descendents and see if we can suss out anyone we know, and if not perhaps find a practicing psychopath willing to teach us the fine art of crazy. I'm sure this spirit will of course give us the year or so we need to learn all about being ghost lords so I guess we'll be on our way then.' Seto turned then to exit the cramped and dirty apartment, he could see no reason to stay a minute longer.

Domon snorted, "Sounds like a great plan. Let me know if you survive. Oh, and mail me that book back when you're done."
Jounouchi growled in irritation as he looked from Kaiba to Domon, "...we don't have time to learn this crap. But we might be able to use the book to find the person who went after us, right?"
"That is what I would suggest, yes." Domon replied.
"Then that's what we'll do. The person obviously hates us, but we can use force to get them to take all this back." Jounouchi nodded. At least they had some semblance of a plan.

Seto walked out of the flat with the dusty book under his arm, daydreaming about all the minor damage he'd probably inflict on the aging text before he maybe returned it to that arrogant b*****d. He'd destroyed priceless duel monster cards for less in the past, destroying this worthless tome would bring him nothing but immense pleasure.
He waited just outside the flat for Jounouchi to catch up and join him. They would need to talk before they made their next move.

"Well alright, at least we've got something." Jounouchi sighed miserably as he followed Kaiba outside. He closed Domon's door behind him. Good riddance on that.

'That would be the understatement of the century,' Seto snorted irritatedly. 'We'll have to actually look through this book, but it'll be easy enough to let a computer system trace modern lineages for the names in this book after. This would be better to do from my company than from your sisters house as their is absolutely no program or database I can't access from their. However, before we get to that, should we perhaps confer with Isis? See if now that we have a name for this...spirit...if she perhaps has any further leads?'' Seto asked, almost hopefully. There was probably a reason they were sent to Domon first, but just because he was the leading expert in identifying something on little information didn't mean he was necessarily the expert in the field. Seto could at least hope that wasn't true. Even if they managed to uncover who was out to get one or both of them, they didn't have a surefire way to actually rectify the situation.

"Yeah, that works for me. I have her phone number written down from earlier, so you can call her on the way to Kaiba Corporation." Jounouchi dug through his pockets, pulling out a crumpled piece of paper and handing it over.
He thought Kaiba's words over a bit, "So it's really that easy to find descendants of the people this book'll mention? That'll really help." he sounded impressed, "I can start making a list of names mentioned in this." he reached over for the book.
