@'elfy - From all reliable accounts (as in, people who were there), I hear that there were a few hundred Tibet protesters and several thousand Chinese supporters. Yet somehow only the protesters were caught on camera (see BBC coverage for details, the bastards). mad

The craziest thing is that every single person I saw on TV with a Tibetan flag was white. neutral

@DASG - Felt sick halfway through that article, had to stop reading it.

don't lie, you know you like the attention. mrgreen

I also like to not get shot by angry Tibetian activists....

we always knew you had strange fetishes xp

and as for the cnn ariticle, does that woman think that a peaceful protest= practically mobbing and assaulting the torch bearer? I'd be afraid to see what she thinks is a violent protest. eek

Ha, I wish, but I wasn't there. Bristol is frustratingly close to yet far from London..

Niph: Signed it. Took me some time to find Australia on the list.

Of course, those protesters who were waving Tibetan flags were all white. They all seem to paint Tibetans as underdogs fighting against the totalitarian rule of China.

I hope the torch can survive the trip to San Fransisco.

I've heard such scandalous news about the "Free Tibet" lot.. makes me feel sick.

Firstly, in Paris, a group of them attacked a girl in a wheelchair who was holding the Olympic torch. I mean.. how much more pathetic can you get? Video.

Eyewitness
"I was standing along the route just pass the Eiffel tower. The torch bearer is a handicapped young lady sitting on a wheelchair. There are one male and one female bodyguards around her. With protesters jumping out every 5 seconds, it's very dangerous to proceed. In order to protect the girl, they pushed the wheelchair in between two parked vans right in front of me. At this moment, a mobster jumped out and dashed for the torch, the bodyguards couldn't make it in time since they are struggling with some other "protesters". The handicapped girl bend down to protect the torch with her fragile body. That "protester" started grabbing her arm and hitting her. My mind just went blank and I followed my instincts~ I jumped out, grabbed that rogue and started hitting him with my camera. Then a French police came over and "escorted" the guy away. All this happened in just seconds. The torch bearer looked up at me and I saw tears in her eyes. A Chinese girl to the left of me yelled:" Be strong!" and pulled me out of my stage of shock. I told the girl to "add oil" and be strong, then felt my own tears flooding down. I'm sad and outraged! She's only a girl, a handicapped girl at that, what kind of monster would HIT someone like her? They don't even respect the basic of humanity!

Also, apparently a large number of the protesters in London were not real protesters but hired by the "Free Tibet" groups to protest for them. "Professional protesters", as they say. One man, apparently, chanted "Free Japan!" for ages before his 'employer' corrected him... -__-;;

@DASG - Yeah.. I feel it's going to be seriously in danger.. I mean, they had to cut it short in Paris, what're they going to do when they face an American mob? D;

I think we should calm down a little and not get too caught up in the blame game. I'm sure there are people out here who are genuinely concerned and want to help their fellow man, albeit badly misinformed. I can't judge whether protesters were hired or not, but we can't completely view any "free Tibet" supporters as wrong. There may be stuff that we don't know that could prove that the government is a bit too hard on Tibet.

The point is nothing's definite and we should not let the media stir us up into such a frenzy.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 08, 2008 3:24 am
Perhaps; but what is definitely wrong is actions like attacking disabled athletes. P;

I do apologise if I come across as being 'stirred into a frenzy'. I guess.. it just makes me angry, and I feel.. helpless. xP

I don't think anyone can remain unaffected by a story like that. It was obviously wrong and I don't know where the reporters were when that happened. stare

Question, what happens if someone does extinguish the torch? confused
PostPosted: Tue Apr 08, 2008 4:20 am
It has been extinguished, twice, in Paris. They just light it again neutral

In 1996 apparently the torch was dropped in water or something o__0;;

@niph: rofl at the dropping the torch in water in Paris thing. *sigh* this is getting ridiculous. I wonder if we can mobilize all the chinese and non-crazy Free Tibet protesters as well as all regular citizens who don't give a rat's a** to help protect the torch in America. (it might not be necessary though.) I'd be so disappointed in the people of sanfansico if anything bad were to happen to the torch bearers and the torch. evil

I forgot to tell you before, i just started a Support the Beijing Olympics on Facebook, so if you want to join, please do, it's global and open to every one. I'd like if you can post in there as well to show your support. blaugh
