Hm. Well, Taryn would just have to assume that Steve lived on the premises. Was it safe to keep something so dangerous on the school grounds, if it had actually eaten a student in the past? Rumors of horrible beasts were one thing, but to have a confirmed case of student-consumption (at least one) was a bit unnerving. Well, at the very least an enormous intimidating mutated fly trap was easy to spot and avoid.

With the diagram copied down, Taryn had been taking short notes in the margins of her notebook, even those about plants in general. So he didn't have eyebrows. That was reassuring. When the new questioned was posed to the class, her notes added a new post-script.

Trained??

The question itself and the name of the class combined to make Taryn think that Steve must be trained. ...but really? A child-eating angry plant? She itched her chin and thought. Well he certainly hadn't destroyed anything, had he? Only one accident on the student-eating front, and a recovered one, rather than several dozen total losses.

"He must be..."

"If he is, he doesn't do a very good job of listening."

Or maybe he did. Sheridan wouldn't have put it past the instructors at this school to train a plant to eat students, it seemed like something Professor Red in particular might enjoy. Then again she seemed to prefer sharks.

Either way it was a disturbing thought, a thought that perhaps the others in the class had arrived at as well. The thought that Steven was in fact ‘trained’, but not in the way the students would have thought or hoped, the fact that he was trained to be exactly as he was, an angry, vicious, student eating monster. Would the professors really do such a thing, really? The dragon snorted as if he had answered his own question, of course they would.

His tail twitched as if trying to dismiss the thought, or at least to not dwell on it, instead turning to slightly less ominous thoughts. From what he had seen of the plant, 'Steve' most certainly seemed like he had a mind of his own, much more so than the other plant he had encountered in the greenhouse. Or maybe he had not seen how vicious 'Steve' truly could be. If the plant were trained, Sheridan shuddered at the thought of how much worse he'd have been without said training. None of them would have ever left that greenhouse alive.

And suddenly he had another thought, imagine if his cat were that large, oh dear jack. That idea was absolutely horrifying. As if the cat of evil were already, well EVIL enough, how much worse would he be if he were large enough to EAT a halloweener. Not to mention what the little beast would do to his books, his room, his minipets, and the dragon’s tail! Of course, were he that large, said cat of evil would no longer be a minipet, but that did not make the idea any less terrible.

Woah. Plants dont sleep? Mot was intrigued. He himself didn't sleep much, but he had insomnia. He only slept when he was able.
Obviously the plants had other means of rejuvenating themselves. The reaper was sure he had read a book on it before, it was only a matter of recalling the information.

The next bout of information was puzzling. "Not unless he was ordered to eat students." Mot said aloud, with an unseen brow raised. A well trained pet wouldn't do such things, or at least he didn't think so.

Xiu had been thinking the same thing as Mot. Maybe he was trained to eat students? But hadn't the professor just said that that wasn't healthy for Steve? Aah, she was so confused! Maybe he was specifically trained not to eat the staff, at least? Or maybe it was simply because adults were bigger and harder to eat.

Xiu was grasping at straws here.

"W-well, he...he doesn't attack you or any of the other professors, does he?" The Baku spoke up timidly, looking uncertain. She knew absolutely nothing about Steve beyond what had already been said about him. She wasn't sure if she ever wanted the meet the plant personally, to be honest.

"I figure he's trained," Roch said. "He only ate one student, right? If he wasn't trained he probably would have gone on an eating spree every chance he got--or maybe you just keep the chances down? No, then he wouldn't be on campus," he said. "But trained or not, he's still a man eater, so you can't stop him completely, right?"

He understood the urge to eat really, really well.

It took a bit of careful thinking for the hound, as he chewed on the spare eraser he kept on the table. "He's trained, to an extent, I suppose." he stated quietly unlike how his brash personality would normally do in standard situations. "Maybe he even has an attack command, or student eating command..... like the word "failure" or something." he finished lamely after awhile. "But if he knew how to sit and lie down, that would be kinda funny.

The idea of never sleeping, that was something Demi didn't think he could do on a constant basis. Once in a while, sure but not... day after day after day.

Nyyrikki zeroed in on the professors last statement and his eyes narrowed into dangerous orange slits. He'd only gotten one thing out of that sentence. "You trained Steve to eat students?"

Were all the staff here vying for an excuse to get rid of/injure students? Seemed like it so far. Except for his music professor. There had been no suggested casualties there.

She had remained silent through the class - mostly because she had no idea who Steve is, although she had heard things about that plant from the students who had encountered it (him?) before... Mostly unpleasant things though, like Steve trying to nom on students or Steve being grumpy; it was rather intriguing though, that a plant could be so animated! Most of the plants she had seen were rather boring - that's why she had never signed up for Professor Cadmus' class... She only signed up this time round because she was in year 2 now, and wanted to see if botany was something she could get into.

She paused at the professor's question before tilting her head and then slowly raising one hand to get his attention, "Um, professor? I believe that Steve is trained... Because if he does eat students like you said, the only reason he doesn't do it all the time is because you trained him?" It sounded logical to her; it was a little like training a pet in that sense, right?

It seemed like she wasn't the only one thinking about that; in fact, she threw Roch a grin at his answer before turning to look at Xiu.

"Ohh... Or could it be Steve had been trained to know what to eat and what - or who - not to eat? So he doesn't attack any of the professors...?" She suggested with a small frown.
