Masami_Mistress_Of_Fire they say it looks stupid because they have pointy noses and they have huge eyes and weird hair. it's just the extra-ordinary thing of the art that they don't like. according to my mom all the characters, expecially guys, look like girls. which some of them do, i'll admit. but come on. and like, how they have their eyes closed sometimes when they're happy. or when they have huge veins when they're mad. or like, a river or tears when they're sad. things like that. basically, everything about the art they hate. even the fact that they have Japanese names. They aren't being racist nessesscarily, but they make fun of the names and mis pronounce them on purpose. things like that you know? Ah, I see. Well, as long as they're not stopping you from watching anime all together. D:

Masami_Mistress_Of_Fire Jajauma Hime Masami_Mistress_Of_Fire oh god.....my entire family makes fun of me for liking any anime because of the art style that is it. They like bully make fun of me. it pisses me off soooo much. plus i barely have any friends who like the same anime i do, especially Yu-Gi-Oh! >o< it's really depressing. What do they say about the art style? ._. I think that most anime art is great compared to other cartoons.

Who was given permission to determine how guys are specifically supposed to look and how girls are specifically supposed to look? I thought the only official "look" difference was the chest and lower areas... Anime characters don't try to look like a specific gender. They look like themselves. Anime characters are deep enough to help the creator along with designing how they look. Every drop of their personality goes into that character design. If a guy just happens to "look like a girl" or a girl just happens to "look like a guy" doesn't mean anything on who they really are.

I KNOW!! that's what i try to explain to my mom but she just doesn't listen to me. And my sisters, I don't even bother with for two reasons.
1) they live in Calgary and Brandon (while I live in Winnipeg)
2) they wouldn't listen anyhow and just make fun of it even more.
They ALMOST remind me of the kind of people that go to my school. the ones that make fun of anime and what not. i can't stand people like that. stupid family -.-

See, my mom used to try and pull me away from yuugiou and anime and such, because she was trying to "protect me from those people at school that would make fun of my for liking it. She was just trying to help me, really. But basically, this is how I saw it
1.) I don't give a crap what they think about me. If someone doesn't like me just because I watch anime they are an extremely shallow person. I honestly don't want their friendship.
2.) By assuming that tons of people were going to make fun of me for liking anime, she was essentially making fun of me herself, indirectly.
She doesn't really do that anymore though. She's either learn to except my liking of anime or learned that I'm not going to change anyway...

Man, my parents are the complete opposite. They love that I'm a geek, especially since my cousins are so terrible. They're just grateful I'm not a druggy or drink & get teenage girls pregnant.
...not that I could, but you know what I mean.
I have to agree with the ignorant ones who say anime is silly because most of the guys look like girls though. They usually do. sweatdrop It's not a bad thing, but it's a pretty accurate generalization. Guys are really not that pretty in other kinds of cartoons especially when compared to something out of manga or final fantasy games.
I can understand why people would make fun of anime for that reason.
I can not understand why kids who do like it would be beaten up for it though. Kids are weird...

She's hardcore Christian and thought it would pull me away from that religion, even though as I type this I am one of the biggest Christians in my school. Sure shows how anime like... totally destroyed my life. rolleyes My mom seems to have realized now though that I'm not affected so easily by cartoons like some of the idiots out there. My dad seemed to know that from the start so never cared that I like anime though he does make fun of the Japanese sometimes. Once in an episode where they kept saying, "Mariku!" he thought they were saying "Mike!" (that's my dad's name) XD It was funny, because it really does sound like they're saying that in the Japanese episodes.

An example are the kids who like Yu-Gi-Oh who claim to have darker halves. O_O I don't see how that's possible... No offense if any of you here are one of those people.

My father hates it. He thinks I'm too old to be watching it and that I should be doing other things with my time, that's normally when I say "like what? Wearing enough make-up to look like pin-up girl, drinking beer, doing drugs, and getting pregnant?" And that's when he tells me to shut up and watch the stupid show. 3nodding My mom dosen't care. As far as she's concerned, if I keep my grades up I can watch whatever I want.

Hypnotique My sister hates it. She's pretty much against all anime/manga, 'cause she thinks its all "cartoons made for little kids" and that "I'm too old to be watching/reading/writing/talking about it."
My mom doesn't really mind. She likes that I have a hobby, and is glad that I watch anime instead of doing something dangerous. xd She's tried to understand the show before, but the more I try to explain it to her the more confused about it she gets. She's watched it with me before though.
My dad doesn't care either. As long as I don't watch it in front of him, he's fine with it. Or, if I do watch it in front of him, he makes fun of all the names and tries to immitate the voices. rofl
My friends.. used to like the show. Back when we were in 7th grade [5 years ago] we all didn't mind it. But now I think I'm the only remaining fan. They don't make fun of me though (not to my face at least.)

I remember when having a yami was really popular on fanfic.net a few years ago. Every character had a dark half wether they wanted one or not.
Including the narrators
and the authors...
