You don't have to have religion to have a purpose, that's another problem with religious fanatics today. Why can't anyone just live to live? Live to be humane and care about others without worrying about where they're going after they die? Why not live to the fullest just because you can?

I know I'm christian, but my grandfather is atheist. I think he's athiest because he beleives that the world is complete and udder science. He has a scientific mind. But he's respectful and never says anything rude about other religions. He's married to a catholic after all. He even endured the catholic procedure to getting married to my Nana. He didn't have to, but he did... of course, I'd probably be half dead by the time I got married if I did that! It sounds so...boring. But yeah. He's probably the reason why I can live with so many people no matter how different they are from me.
But I think most Atheists are atheist simply because they think scientifically, or don't see any logic in any religion.

I liked it when Carlos Mencia explained about the religions. He was like...

"The problem with the world now these days is they want you to believe every freaking thing! I'll believe it when you explain it to me. I mean God isn't a small hat on your head, or cutting off the tip of a baby's p3n1s! God is much more than that! I'll totally believe the religion if you can explain it to me!!" Or something along those lines xDD

My friend is atheist. I do believe in what she stands by in some measure. I mean, I agree how it might not be possible for one to exist by means of war and destruction in the world.

But, I am agnostic. So, yeah.

choose to be atheist because if you look at almost all religions they restrict you from doing things, like in christianity you cann't sin if you want to get into heaven, then most of them also make people prejudice, look at the argument with christians and harry potter

I have to say I got most of my atheist beliefs from being brought up in such a disbelieving environment, regardless of being sent to Sunday school when I was younger.
Agreeing with some points made before I began to question some things in the Bible and some things I didn't quite like the answer to. I think scientifically but I do respects other people's beliefs; After all, if nothing seems to be going your way, what can you believe in fully other than religion?

living comes to mind.

I can't help but laugh when people say that life is without meaning without god. Why should it make any difference?

There are many reasons that I am an atheist. For one, there is no solid proof. Also, if you look back through history, you will see a myriad of religions beliefs and religions, the majority of which have disappeared, and a few of which have merely turned into common myth lore. If humans have been wrong so many times about deities, I see no reason to assume they have finally got it right.

In Christianity, it doesn't say that you can't sin. We are all human, we were born sinful and always will sin. You have to ask for forgiveness of your sins and accept Jesus into you heart in order to get into heaven.

The Harry Potter arguments are a little radical, but according to an article I read, J.K Rowling tries not to include religion in her books, which I'm alright with.

And to the person who wrote that Christians are constantly trying to shove the word of God down peoples throats, that's not right, Christians really only should try to share the word if people are willing to listens.

Three most common reasons to How an Atheist came to be

a) Personal problems. Might be anything from your dog died to your whole town died. Anything out of the blue may cause one to seemingly spontaneously decide to stop believing in a god or a higher power.

b) A Religion based inconsistency or immorality/scandal/controversy or prejudice.

c) Socio-economic problems and issues.

Although I've said in letter A that one might just decide out of nowhere that he/she wants to be an atheist, that almost never [or just never, actually] happens. As it is [almost] always a build up or a combination of any of the three.

And if this means anything, I was once an Atheist. Until of course, I realized that I still do believe in a higher power, that something up there would make things right for me when everything went horribly wrong. Laugh at me or whatever, but I believe in God, or Destiny. Or whatever you'd want to call that entity up there. I prefer not give him/her/it a name. Nor an identity.

To belive there is a god is like beliving that if you shoot your dog dead he will for some strange reason just come back to life... IT WONT HAPPEN... I also think the belife of prayer is over rated. ATHIEST are smart we belive in the logical, no no let me restate that we dont "belive" we know that there is a logical explination for every thing like if you get money back for over paying on your taxes its not "gods" doing its your own damn fault you over payed... Also if you under pay and get an audet once again your fault he didnt pay your taxes for you also dont blame your mistakes on your "god" its just a way to make you feel better about your self and your actions... I'm tired of hearing about mass murderers who say "oh well god told me to do it" its just so stupid... Also one last thing if you have ever read the bible (I am guilty I was once a christian) it says that people were made from a grain of sand or what ever sounds a bit like evelution your just skipping many years of history oh and science isnt takeing the worst of it oh no its our schools how many times have you seen a chistrian standing in front of your school telling people that they should join christianity because of there so called "sins"... come on we all have things we regret but we dont all rush to the nearest police officer to tell them we just took a crap in the uranal no you dont... okay maby you didnt under stand the relation ship between that and christianity well basicly here it is short and sweet DONT BLAME YOUR PROBLEMS ON SOMETHING OR SOMEONE ELSE YOU DONT LEARN ANY THING THAT WAY... my favorite quote is "If we dont remember what we have done in the past we are doomed to repeat it"... I have come up with my own quote and its "A lifetime of servitude stands for nothing in the eyes of your so called god"

Okay, so, I really don't believe that.
Mostly because I'm an athiest, and I don't have any huge personal issues, I've never had to deal with a religious scandal, and I'm pretty sure I don't have any socio-economic issues.
I have just never believed in any kind of God.

On another note...
Another assumption that bugs me that people make about athiests is that people peg me as automatically anti-religion.
That is so not true.
I think religion is fascinating and has helped numerous people.
Just because I don't believe in a God doesn't mean I'm completely against religions.
