user _name-me The Chicken came first if the egg came first then it would not be able to survive. The egg needs a parent which is the chicken. you didn't read a word I said, did you.

kittin from hevan Did you ever think that chickens are just small trianousars with feathers and a hard mouth? And lost its teeth from a fight or something? In my opinion the egg came first becouse you eat them frist. For breackfast you eat an egg or two. Then later durring didder you eat the chicken. See? Eggs have allways been first! I have a pet egg. It's name is John.. It's so emo. And its about 2 weeks old. ^^; yay! someone who knows the joke!

I'd say the egg came first. I mean an ancestor of the chicken didn't wake up one day to find it was a chicken.

WARNING-THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION!!!
One question...What made the Universe. The only logical answer would be a higher power or Supreme Being. Everything has a begginning. The beggining of all life and what we have came to know as humanity was a Supreme Being. Many people believe that everything comes from something, but when they are asked what started the universe, they cannot answer without including religion. A/The God did indeed start the Universe and all of humanity. Then as things gradually produced, planets were formed, life became on Earth. A/The God created all of life. There is not other explanation. Now, do not think I do not believe in Evolution, 'cause anyone who doesn't do not deserve any credibility. Evolution is happening right now. People die and people are born. Nothing else to it. So, if you say you are an Athiest and do not belive in a God, think about who brought you here. You may say, "It was my parents", well who brought them. It all goes back to the begginning of time. And that was created by nne other than A/The God.
As for the Chicken and Egg question, it had to be the Egg.

well, there are two ways to look at it... the religious way, and the scientific way. in the religious way, the chicken came first, because God created creatures first, not eggs. and in the scientific way, the egg came first because of evolution from dinosaurs to chickens... so it just depends on how you look at it...

the problem is that you would need either two chickens or two egs to get anything else unless a chicken could reproduce asexually

The egg came first, because of course the chicken had to come from somewhere. You see, the prehistoric chicken-dinosaurs were hatched from an egg layed by a temporary and evolving species.
It works like this:
Pre-chicken species mates and concieves.
Pre-chicken lays egg.
Pre-chicken freaks out when it sees what an incredibly weird baby it has, and is immediately ashamed and considers putting it up for adoption and never telling the other kids.
Chicken is born.

i don't know if anyone spoiled this for you guys yet or not, but its obvious that a circle can't have a beginning, besides, ANY point in ANY other cycle could define the start it as being anywhere. Take for example water, we'll start at the ocean, the heat from the sun evaporates the water, the water forms a cloud, the cloud rains on the mountain, the rain water runs into the river which runs into the ocean completing a cycle. On the same principal, you could challenge that simply by saying that it begins and ends with the clouds, It's still a logical and valid point.
You can't conclude that either came first when you can't find the end of their overall existence.
