"Sometimes life isn't about what you want or don't want to do," Azm replied. "And there is a reason why the army has these procedures. People don't just walk away from what you went through and bury it till it's gone. That's not how bad memories work."

"So I need to relive everything for everyone's entertainment. I'm pretty sure that's not how it works either." Kim grumbled. "I certainly don't want to."

"Mostly to appease the doctors and your father, but talking about it is good for you. Talking about it without crying each time means recovery to them," he explained. "It's a sign that you've dealt with the emotional trauma."

"There's no such thing as recovery. Scars are proof of that. And what happened is just some new scarring."

"It's as close as you can get to recovery," he corrected. "But you're right those scars will be with you forever. All we can do is help the wounds becomes scars faster."

"Isn't it better to let things heal naturally than to ******** with it and make a mess of things?" Kim grunted, lowering down in bed and rolling away from Azm.
"Don't you know how flesh wounds work?"

"It is always better to set a bone before casting it. It is always better to sterilize any wound before stitching. It is always better to force someone to stay awake when they have a concussion. Treatment causes more pain in all of these cases but it makes for a quicker recovery in all cases," he explained. "So wince as the peroxide is poured over your wounds, and tough it out."

"So when a cat scratches you, do you treat that? No. You just let it be and get over it." Kim argued in a gruff tone.

"You don't need to care for every little thing. Some stuff you gotta tough out."

"Depends," he replied with a shrug. "But this is more the just a scratch. You wouldn't cry and shake over a scratch."

"Shock makes a person do things that they normally wouldn't. I'm still trying to readjust to everything." Kim argued.
"A lot has happened in a little while."

Azm nodded. "And we're doing treatment to make sure you adjust properly," he replied. "So please don't fight the doctor. He's only here to help because we care about you."

"This is a funny way to show you care, making someone do something they don't like." Kim sighed.

"Besides, shouldn't you be with the others, doing something..?"

"Only because we believe in the end it will have been good for you," he said.

He shrugged. "Ranger school shouldn't be for a while..."

"Oh but I'm sure the others are just excited. Especially the one civilian chick.. Lucy?" Kim scratched at her head, trying to remember Lucy clearly.

"The look she got her face for training... Classic rookie."
