The girl blinked, still dazed. She shoved a rock off her shoulder with a grunt and looked up, her eyes widening. Two lizardmen, apparently survivors of the Venomian army still associated with Oikonny, were dropping downward toward them with saurian smirks as they leveled what seemed to be blaster rifles at them. Kaimei's gaze darted around as he leaped back, evading another heavy blow. He noticed a twisted steel rod sticking out of the bottom of the pod and blinked. Damn, the transmission's screwed... but maybe I can still use it, he thought. He kicked the mutated Kai in the face, aiming to enrage him into charging as he danced back, evading all but one of his blows, which knocked him again onto his back. Lucy winced when she saw the shifter in a form that looked remarkably like Fox and Krystal, but with dark topaz and tan fur, fall and skid on his back. What does he have planned? she thought. "I hate to do this to ya, Kai... but you'd do the same to yourself if you knew what you're doing," Kaimei muttered as the mutated ape-beast charged with a roar that made his head ache. He dropped onto his back again at the last moment, planting his feet and flipping his former friend over him in what some martial arts styles termed a 'monkey throw'. As he expected, the creature flipped over him as it tumbled, the transmission acting like a spear as it exited the beast's chest just above where he knew the heart lay. The beast looked somehow surprised and relieved at the same time as the light faded from its eyes. Kaimei's head dropped for a moment, a single tear escaping his eye before his head rose again. He spun with a feral growl and charged after Fox and Krystal. Oikonny.... I'm going to rip your damned heart from your chest, he thought venomously. He noticed the lizardmen with a faint frown before he picked up a rock as big as his head normally was and hurled it like a baseball. It slammed into the first lizardman's head with a heavy crunch, spoiling its shot which slammed into the rubble a few feet to Krystal's left. From the way its body went momentarily limp it was stunned.

The second lizardman was distracted by it's comrad being hit with a rock, and didn't attack. Taking this opportunity, Fox did a round-hosue kick, his foot smacking the lizard in the face. He pulled the blaster rifle from it's grip and jabbed it in the stomach with the gun. The lizardman stumbled back, and Fox fired at him. It fell down, unmoving. Sure, he could have just shot the lizardman in the first place; but then it wouldn't have been as much fun, would it?
Krystal stood, helping the girl to her feet. ~~

The girl blinked when she realized the people who'd saved her weren't quite human. "Who are you?" she said, her words slightly slurred from dizziness. Kaimei cocked his head as he lifted a chunk of steel rebar, spinning it in his grasp. He looked up to see the semi-stunned lizardman lifting its rifle to fire at the girl's back. He growled before he hurled the rebar like a spear, taking the lizard through the gut as the rifle went off, the blast missing both Krystal and the girl by a few feet. "Threaten my friends, and you get the shaft," he growled, his footfalls crunching slightly over the glass and rubble as he approached Fox and Krystal.

~~ Krystal's eyes widened a bit when the blast nearly hit her. "Thanks, you two" she said. Then she returned her attention to the girl. "My name is Krystal. These are my friends, Fox and Kaimei."
Fox walked over to Krystal and the girl. "Would you mind explaining what happened here? Why this place is half demolished?" He asked, gently but firmly. ~~

The girl exhaled slowly, rubbing her head. "A beam fired down from the sky... the blast wave created a small earthquake which did most of the damage... but I haven't seen anyone else since before the beam fired down," she admitted. Kaimei grunted softly, a sound of surprise escaping him. "s**t... these 'guys'... are military," he growled, revealing the rags of the uniforms the lizardmen wore. The words 'U.E Army- Infantry' were visible, though the last three letters of the last word were tattered. "United Earth Army... fifteen years ago was the last war we had, though what's going on here is anyone's guess," he explained.

~~ "So Oikonny is testing out his cannon, is he?" murmured Fox, raising his gun and glancing around, eyes narrowed. He and Krystal looked at Kaimei when he stated things about the lizardmen. "United Earth Army?" Fox asked, curious, "What is that?" ~~

Kaimei shrugged. "Basically it's most of the military force on the planet that does everything from police work to military combat, though that's rare now," he said idly.

~~ Fox nodded. "Do you think they attacked us because they think we're a threat?" He asked, "Or is....Ah, s**t. Oikonny's probably convincing some of their members to join him." ~~

Kaimei tilted his head, looking at the lizardmen. "It's more likely the beam was radiation designed to change those within a certain radius... the shockwave was likely an after effect as was the earthquake, but I'd bet money that those changed by the radiation were somehow twisted mentally so they serve Oikonny mindlessly," he said softly, not liking the idea at all.

~~ Fox hadn't thought of the radiation idea(I mean, he was from a solar system with animal people all over the place), but it was sort of a more detailed version of what Falco had said. "Either way, he's getting people on his side."
"My question is, how come she isn't affected?" asked Krystal, looking at the girl. ~~

Kaimei cocked his head. "Either she was just out of range of the mutation radiation or she was shielded by the rubble, which wouldn't really surprise me," he said thoughtfully. The girl, Kino Tsunami, blinked, looking from one to the other in confusion.

~~ Fox nodded. He spoke into his comunicator. "Falco...Falco..Falco!"
"You need somethin'?" Falco asked drowsily. Onboard the Great Fox, the falcon was sitting back in one of the chairs of the control room, his eyes closed, one leg crossed over the other, hands behind his head, relaxing.
"What--were you asleep?"
"Sort of, yeah. But whatcha need?" Falco got up from his seat, adjusting the mic on his headset.
"Can you come pick us up in your Arwing, Falco?"
"What's your location?" Falco walked to the hanger bay. He listened as Fox stated them. "All right. Be there in a few." He climbed into his Arwing.
"See you then." Fox closed the communication.
"You never did tell us your name." Krystal said to the girl, smiling slightly. "At least give us something to call you if you aren't comfortable giving your full identity." ~~

Kaimei tilted his head, trying to keep from chuckling at Falco's reply and Fox's reaction. "I'm Kino... Tsunami," the girl said slowly, a Japanese accent clear in her voice. Kaimei blinked. "She's the daughter of one of the top chefs in the city... hopefully Makoto isn't hurt," he said quietly, remembering both of them now.
(Yeah, it's a not-so-subtle 'Sailor Moon' reference....)

Krystal smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Kino." She suddenly became serious again, turning to Fox. "Wait....I had sensed two brain patterns. Why is there only Kino's now...?"
"Shoot..." Fox glanced around. ~~

Kaimei blinked. "Do you remember where it was, Krystal?" he said quietly. His gaze rose momentarily to the surrounding buildings, most of which were damaged.
