Moira beamed right back at TG, apparently completely unruffled by his pointed questions. "Because it's exploring and fighting, which if you add them up, equals an adventure! It's all scientific! Besides, they'd just step on the gnom- oh. Oh. Oh dear." She stared at TG's diminutive size with a stricken expression on her face. "You'd better have two, I think... just in case." She grabbed two Taming Sticks from the nearest gnome and lobbed them in TG's direction. Then she nodded, apparently satisfied with this extra precaution. "Sadly, not everyone can appreciate the value of these hidden treasures! Or even cares! But I promise~ you'll be happy~!" The cheerful smile was back.

And then Neil was on the ground with Demi who had taken a good bit of the blow. The boil sat to his knees and blinked. His usual very serious face had softened in to something more of surprise and confusion. The b*****d child of both emotions. "Packs do protect each other.." He scratched his scruffy head in thought about the second part. There was no time to really think on much else though as the instructor had appeared with something called a taming stick. Siobhan, a ghoul Neil was pretty familiar with, had been .. drugged? Or something? Demi had the stick in his mouth when Neil turned his attention back to the pup. He could not have face palmed harder. "Be careful with that you don't know what the school does to those things." He grumped. Hey, pack protects its own right? Still, Neils tail was wagging, even if his face was as serous as ever. He wanted to play with the new toy too and chew it to bits.

While TG dodged the sticks being thrown at him, Calder rose his hand. "Uh, excuse me. Why do we have to tame them? Aren't they just okay on their own in there? It's there home now. I don't think we should be forcing anything out if you left it all alone for them to get in there in the first place. I...." He looked at the sticks, and the word 'taming' bothered him. "....I don't like that we're taming them." What was wrong with wild?

"Oh, once we tame them they will go to a much happier place before it wears off, and then they'll be wild again! Don't you worry, spookie - they'll be fine and super-duper happy too! That way we can be happy and so can they!" Moira nodded earnestly, then peered at the class, then at the cave. "Any more questions before we go in?"

"I gotta agree with that!" Roch called as he heard Calder's question. "Bein' tamed sounds like it sucks... bludgeoning sticks," he said dryly, waving the stick in question. "Do WE need the cave for somethin? Cuz if we don't, we could just let them have it, if you ask me." Then Moira explained the happy happy theory. And he frowned. Cuz seriously, someone uses so many happy words in one sentence and you know they're lying.

Moira gave Roch a cheerful smile. "It's quite harmless, I assure you! I ran tests on lots of gnomes! Lots and lots of gnomes." Oh. Maybe there was a reason why the gnomes were following Moira around and doing her bidding...? Hm. Then she turned to the class as a whole and raised her voice. "Okay, everyone! If everyone has a towel and a Taming Stick, then we're all set to go inside!" Moira shuffled over to the cave mouth and tugged the rope down with a flourish, then headed in; as she entered, bright spots of green appeared on the cave walls. Glowing mushrooms, apparently. "Come on, don't be shy~! Ooh, you come too, little ones," she added, freezing one ready-to-sneak-away gnome in his tracks. The zombie hummed a jaunty tune as she led the class down into the cave. It was a fairly pleasant cave, if faintly humid the deeper down they went. There was also a growing smell of water and a bit like... rotten eggs? Suddenly, the cave opened up into a huge room, the ceiling filled with rather spectacular stalactites - not that anyone had a chance to look at them, given the state of the floor. Whatever might have been under there originally was coated in a massive pile of rushes, leaves, branches, and a number of rather pissy-looking... things. They looked like hairless beaver minipets, except with no tails and extremely wicked, long teeth. Also, they were huge - about the size of a small pony. "The common slightly-mutated molerat!" Moira declared, pulling out a Taming Stick of her own and brandishing it at the creatures. The thing reared back and chittered dangerously, and the others of the colony began to advance, a series of low grumbling growls filling the cavern. "Don't use FEAR, now, it'll only make things worse! Just bonk them on the head with the Taming Sticks! Ooh, naughty," she added as the molerat lunged at her, missing by mere inches. "Let's go, spookies! Let's reclaim this land for Amityville!!"Quote: Molerat Taming Time!Molerats have 8 HP! The Taming Sticks use a special dice roll! Roll 1d12... 1: You completely miss the molerat; it bites you for 5 HP damage. 2-5: You whack the molerat on the side for 4 HP damage, but it bites back for 3 HP damage. 5-8: You whack the molerat on the nose with the stick for 6 HP damage, but it bites back for 2 HP damage. 9-10: You smack the molerat on the head with the glowy end of the stick! ... And its head explodes messily. It dies. Was that supposed to happen? 11-12: You smack the molerat on the head with the glowy end of the stick! The molerat stares at you, then pulls back and stops attacking! However, it's now following you around with an adoring, lovestruck expression on its horrible ugly face. This particular molerat fight is over! IF YOU CHOOSE, you can attack normally, but it's not as humane sad AND you automatically take 8 HP damage from the molerat every turn. If you use FEAR on a molerat, you automatically triple its HP (instead of doing damage) AND it does 12 damage to you every turn. And you're responsible for taking it out, because you created it. So! When the molerat's HP = 0: - If the molerat was downed using the Taming Stick only (avoiding the insta-death roll OR getting the insta-tame roll) then it is TAME and following your character around lovingly. - If the molerat was killed using normal battle mechanics, it is dead. Meanie. sad If YOUR HP ever = 0, you re-form in the Nurse's Office and a gnome will escort you back to the class. Each student must take out a minimum of two mole rats (either by killing or taming) to pass the class, though they may take out more if they wish! This phase of the class will end on Wednesday, February 29th at 10:00 am PST!
As always, if you want to interact with Moira, quote me. smile

Jericho frowned at the name of the cave. He sincerely hoped this had little to nothing to do with Desu's Cave of Wonders. If it was, they were in for a real ride. Nervously, he glanced from Riley, to Shehk, to the cave before slowly beginning to follow the others on in.
When they ran into their first creature encounter, he just stared at the large angry looking things. Gritting his teeth, he held out his taming stick warily. Well... the creatures didn't look horribly dangerous. Maybe the cave wasn't too bad. Or perhaps it was leading them into a false sense of security.
Spotting one of the molerats in the area, he gripped onto his 'weapon' tightly before making a swing at the critter, smacking it good on the head with the glowy end. He was ready to take some sort of retaliation, but instead, the creature just stared at him. It didn't attack. In fact, it seemed to have calmed down.
"... This.. is this some sort of trick?"

It appeared it was time to venture into the cave, Shehk holding her mighty 'taming' stick and half wondering if she'd be able to use it on Jericho if needed. Shove the stick in his mouth if he got rowdy. Somehow, that seemed like even more disaster in the long run, though. Even as they entered the cave the scent of rotten eggs hit her probably as hard as it would any of the other canine students there.
It smelled awful, and she soon knew why.
"......Slightly-mutated..." She hated to see what the molerats looked like normally if that was 'slightly' mutated, holding her taming stick with both hand even as she moved further in towards the things. No fear, no FEAR. Got it.
Still, with as easy of a first shot as Jericho got, one of the things swooped too close to Shehk and in a half-gut reaction she swung the stick around to smack it in the side, the creature making a grunting noise before whirling around to latch to her leg and start biting.
Shehk yelped.

Riley's swing would assure Jericho that this was no trick, as she missed the molerat completely and was subsequently bitten right on the shoulder for her efforts. She let out a startling cry, but stifled it as quickly as it had come, and adjusted the folds of her shirt to keep her skin from showing through the bite marks.
We would have to ssssay. No. To that. Riley hissed at Jericho, before standing up and bringing the bat into her other hand - the bitten shoulder would hinder her swings, not that they were very good in the first place, today.

Christof jumped as he was addressed, blinking at the littler zombie with a crazed expression before he relaxed. Oh! Oh it was just that kid... er... hell's bells, he'd met him countless times but they hadn't exactly been the best moments for getting to know you. He had been kind enough to return his knife that time. The corners of his stitched mouth twitched up in a timid smile before the hunchback motioned for Mort to follow as he limped his way into the cave with the others. He had never been in many caves before... and wasn't quite sure what their professor was trying to teach him, but maybe there was a crypt or something interesting deeper down? Only one way to- He jumped, spotting movement leaping out at him out of the corner of his eye as something latched onto his prickly, monsterish arm. With a glower, he swung his goopy stick around to thwack it on the head irritably. Damage to Mole rat: 4 HP: 37/40

Neil, the ruiner of fun. Somebody had to be the serious one and Demi supposed it had to be the one with the face to match. It was supposed to be an adventure and here he was, being a wet nosed pup. Green eyes became brighter and glossier as the more playful of personalities came out for its time in the pumpkin sun, or cave as it were. "Come on Neil, its a stick. A STICK, it practically screams chew me." he argued back, taking the green laced item away to speak. "I'll keep away from the green residue, you don't need to getting all starry eyed at you." he said quickly, pointing to the odd situation with Siobhan. The taming solution was indeed more powerful as the thought, taming other creatures, sounded more like a kind of low powered mind control. "Too bad we can't use these sticks on more threatening individuals." he said dryly as they trekked further into the cave and across all the molerats. Ew. that was the only word to describe them as the hellhound bristled at the sight. So many ews. But the cleanup was afoot, and so was he. Already running after a molerat with the stick in hand, he bopped one as he ran past and waited. Jericho had one following already and the molerat he bonked- He might not have seen it but there was one undeniable truth. "Hey Neil." he said shakily. "I don't think that sounds like its following me." Was it time for the sad puppy face? Yes. HP: 40 Molerat #1: KABOOM!

Yikes, the look Christof gave him before . . . Maybe it had something to do with Scarentines? Mort wouldn't ask, but he seemed to be the type who would stew over personal infighting - if that was what it had been. In any case the zomboil happily tagged along, testing the weight of the taming stick and giving the rat a thwack on the head.

The trio had been disrupted when the professor spoke, and soon Yin found himself laden with a towel and some sort of stick. And they were going to remove creatures. His mouth began to water until she said it would be done humanely...and that probably meant not in the way humans would do it, but rather in a nonviolent manner. Trying to suppress his disappointment he followed the Professor into the cave, sticking close to Alexander, considering that he had asked his bonded to accompany him on this trip.
As they walked through the cave he was becoming more and more excited, who knew what was down here? And then...there were creatures. Yin's mouth was certainly watering now. Bonk them on the head? Just...bonk them on the head? Could he not just sink his teeth into one? Disappointed again he turned to Alexander. "Shall we see what these are made of?"
It was not until he whacked the first creature in range with his taming stick that he realized what a poor, poor choice of words that had been. It's head exploded. Bits of flesh, blood, and brains splattered all over the weremantis, but who knew, maybe that would actually make him more attractive to Alexander, who he was now looking at with a rather confused expression. "Was that...supposed to happen?" He really had not thought that he had hit it that hard...

She swung at the creature, this time slamming her taming bat into it's side, but it had a taste of her blood, and it was only looking for more. It bit into her when it reared back from the slam, and she growled at the feel of flesh being pierced.

Jericho cringed as he saw Riley end up getting bitten pretty hard by one of the creatures. Shehk was not having much of an easier time either.
"Tiamat's s**t..." he uttered out before looking at the beasts all around. The one he had smacked was still standing by rather amiably. Should he help out? If he attacked another, would it turn this one against him? He couldn't be certain.
"Riley, are you alright?" he asked, eyeing her bitten shoulder only to hear Shehk yelp, "... Shehk?"
This wasn't good. Nervously he stepped back. These things were more dangerous than they appeared.
