C: Something with a perfectly logical explanation.

You know, for a second the phony speaking on a walkie talkie had Kiwi Kiss almost prepared to say that this was it — it was totally a monster. Except, that morbid side of her also wondered if it was a monster then why hadn't it attacked yet? Well, that was awfully assumptive, too. Maybe the monster wasn't actually violent, or maybe it just wanted a friend, who knows? Still, she was set on it being something with a perfectly logical explanation, like perhaps a large animal or a phony with abnormal features.

Then again, another part of her hoped it truly was a monster! That'd be an absolutely fantastic way to spend fall!

A. A monster!!

The flutter nodded as the pretty phony suggested they make their way back to the herd. It was best to stick together for the evening. Lucky Egg’s eyes went wide with the colored smoke and tape of what might be lurking in the woods. If she had nails she would certainly be biting on them now. Every little crunch or snap in the woods had this little phony on the edge of her seat. It had to be a monster! Oh gosh!! How big?? Is it friendly or misunderstood?? Is it cute or terrifying?? She had so many questions but there was no way she was going to take this journey alone. o-o

D: Something else (an UNDEAD SOUL which is totally not a monster guys we have to be nice to it)

Banshee had very much enjoyed collecting the kindling, with her new friends who were all lovely, and hadn’t laughed at her once when she’d dropped her pile of wood at least three times... or at least had giggled politely behind their hooves where she couldn’t see them. She was especially pleased with Torchwood, her response to his praise over her blanket was a breathy ‘thank yooooou’ and her internal promise to be his best friend 5eva.

“OooOOoo,” was her response to the green flames, as she parked herself down beside Torchwood. “Wanna share?” She asked him, innocently offering one corner of her blanket as various theories as to the forest creature were tossed around. What could it be? She also wondered, an idea squirming in the back of her mind.

“THE UNDEAD,” she hypothesized, once again interjecting louder than intended. “Some poor soul had been unable to rest.” Her eyes went shiny with unshed grief. “They wander the forest, waiting for us to find them and unbind them from this mortal plane.” She turned to look at the dark woods. “I WILL FIND YOU!” She promised IN A SHOUT that was very much meant to carry and probably deafened everyone nearby.

A: A monster!
He wanted to run ahead, but splitting up the group probably was a bad idea. Still made him huff as he had to keep following, his excitable energy getting pent up. Even more agitating was all the back and forth about if it was a monster or not. "If it's not a monster, then why all this fuss?" he huffed. And if it wasn't a monster...boy, would he be disappointed!

D: Something else (A big bug, hopefully a flying spider!)

By the time Spider got back to the center their little base camp, the fire had roared to life, and he watched with wonder as Miss Odd-Eyes made not just the flames, but the smoke too, turn a pretty green. Ok, yup, THAT was cool! Of course, the fire itself was extremely dangerous and could potentially burn the ENTIRE WOODS TO THE GROUND, but at least it'd look cool doing it. He made a mental note to ask her how on Gaia she did that later. What other colors could she make? Purple maybe? That would be wicked. Still the scariest thing out here, but still wicked. In the meantime though, he also had to give her mental credit for at least the intent of it all. Green smoke wasn't exactly a thing you saw in the woods, so it'd be easy to spot if you got too far off track. Oooo, would he get too far off track? A solo adventure did sound tempting… But, if that fire decided to get off track too, he supposed it was better he stick with the others to make sure everyone got out alive.

Taking one last anxious look at the fire -and reminding himself it wasn't fear, it was just good ol common sense-, he followed Miss Odd-Eyes out into the woods. Adventure time, at last! Spider thought again about what they might find… Was it a monster? Maaaaaybe… Alien? Highly unlikely, but then again, there was a babben among them that looked kinda like an alien. Maybe there was a logical explanation? Maybe it was, as he overheard one of the bigger phonies say, another breed of phony? Perhaps… Spider still liked to think it was a giant bug. Sure, they had a few bug-phonies on their trip, but none were very scary. Actually, the scariest thing he'd seen so far (not talking about the fire, nope) was a big white phony, who looked a bit like a bat despite his color. Bats ate bugs. Spider Eyes was NAMED after a bug. And he was -admittedly- little.

-gasp- What if it was a spider?? A flying spider, of course, since it was rumored to have wings… BUT WHAT IF IT WAS A FLYING SPIDER??? Ohhh he sure hoped it was! Unlikely, but ya know, a phony could dream!

D: Something Else - ( An Innocent Victim )

Crypt Keeper was appreciating their guide's approach to the whole ordeal the more she spoke. There was a lot of grandiose posturing going on, building up tension and curiosity -- the showmanship with the green smoke, while it had a utilitarian purpose, was still very much part of an act, as far as he could tell. Crypt sighed a little at all of the speculations flying around. Whatever, whoever, was out here, it was less likely for them to actually be something fearsome. The sightings of it never described violence.

"It probably just wants to be left alone," Crypt said aloud, though he was unsure if anyone would hear over the excitement coming from other phonies. Miss Skirmish had the right idea, that they were just trying to observe, not disturb. "All of the attention might have scared it into hiding in the first place." He certainly wouldn't appreciate such a public eye full of misunderstandings trained on him.

C: Something with a perfectly logical explanation.

Muck gave an appreciative whistle at the fire, the color was certainly near and dear to him (but he was biased so shhhhh). As they set out, he grativated towards the others he'd gone to collect kindling with a grin, "Adventures are always fun! Although the ones I get up to usually involve a lot of mud and gunk." he laughed.

While he listened and mulled over Labby's thoughts on what they were searching for, the earth phony could only come up with a logical explanation. "If it is a monster, we can use my net bag to slow it down so we can get away. But personally, I think it's someone pretending to be a monster because they're hiding something cool in the woods and want to keep all to themselves."

Well, it was logical to Swamp Net. He didn't seem too put off by how ridiculous that sounded to anyone but him. Turning to Torchwood, "What about you?"

Caramel Crisp wasn't sure how tents worked, really, but it seemed good enough for a shelter. As long as it didn't fall over. When another phony came over to help she smiled in welcome. "Thanks! I'm sure we'll get this all done before everyone else gets back from setting up the cameras," she said with a smile.

She giggled a little as she listened to some of the theories. "I'm sure whatever it is, it has a perfectly reasonable explanation." She just didn't believe in monsters.

Catwalk also heard there's a fat Phony that sings when everything comes to an end, but she didn't actually believe it. Not that she didn't believe in the possibility of oddities or monstrous things, but to chalk something up immediately to that just seemed unfair. "How 'bout we reserve judgment until we actually find the thing? Probably just Birdy out there avoiding all the kids again..."

The babben snorted with vague amusement at herself. Not that she'd mind running into that cool-haired chick again.

C. Something with a perfectly logical explanation

It was probably for the best he didn't get a chance to catch something; no time to cook it over the (green) fire anyway. He wondered if that might have made it taste funky...

Rod in mouth, Hooked kept to the inside of the group, growing more nervous as they began their search in earnest. The mystery of it had drawn him in, sure, but learning what it was and actually meeting it were two different things. The rumors had been wildly speculative, but Hooked remembered something about coals for eyes and burning wings. While Crypt had pointed out it might just be a big misunderstanding involving a forest hobo (well, to paraphrase), this babby wasn't so sure. Phonies could exaggerate the stories, sure, but you couldn't make up fire out of nowhere, right? Heck, there were really weird phonies about all the time. Fire didn't seem that out of the ordinary. If this thing was letting itself get caught so much on Halloween? Probably a prank of some sort getting attention.

"Birdy?" he asked one of the others curiously, managing the word around the fishing rod.

D) Something else (abnormally large animal)

The theories were flying hard and fast overhead as they walked deeper into the woods, but all of them were just shots in the dark, really. For all anyone knew, it could just be a normal animal... or a really big version of a normal animal? That'd be weird. What would be the best animal to meet a giant version of? Maybe a squirrel or a chipmunk or something, they seemed really fluffy and nice. Oh, but what would be the worst thing to see a giant version of? Probably something that was already pretty big, or dangerous, or both. Bears, cougars, wolves...

Friend-Ship was so distracted by daydreaming about giant animals he almost bumped right into another phony's legs. Whoops! Better pay more attention, he thought.

Labyrinth's head swiveled backwards to Banshee. Ohh a ghost! She'd never considered that idea!

"Ohhhh that's a good idea Banshee! A ghost!" she thinks for a moment. "Or do you mean like a zombie?? Those seem like good ideas too!!"

She bumps shoulders with Swamp Net. "I'm plenty strong too, so if you need help in hauling the beastie in, I can help." She winked a him. "And if we find something super awesome, I'll split the credit with you. You could be...Dr. Swamp Net, co-discoverer of the awesome thing in the woods!" She waved her hoof across the sky like a marquee was displaying this over the top title in flashing lights.

Kiwi Kiss had heard Fright Night earlier, canting her head towards them with a curious glimmer in her eyes. Had they seen a monster before? How exciting! Her nose scrunched in amusement as she fluttered near him, flashlight balanced delicately in her hooves.

"Have you ever seen a monster before?" She found herself asking the obviously enthused stallion.

D.) Something else (A kraken! Kind of?)

Golden Doubloon was happy for the set up buddies. She laughed along with them and before they knew it the tents were done and they were on their way following after their leader, Skirmish.

Doubloon fluttered amongst the crowd and listened to each and every phony.
Her imagination was going to run amok with all these new thoughts. Everyone had such different ideas!

She giggled at Bullseye's determination. "So does it have to be a special looking phony or one with lots of gems if you were gonna flirt with them?"

She thought back on her own adventures and some odd things that had awaited her and her crew.

"Hmm...I mean...it could be a bunch of octopi in an-er-an octopus pod...OR this one time we thought we found the kraken but then it ended up being a guy aggressively cosplaying one....it was kind of sad actually." She winced at the recollection and how determined the men was. He truly wanted to be the beast of the deep but no one was intimidating when they flopped about like a fish.

B) Aliens

After bringing back the kindling, Torchwood was impressed with the fire that was made. Cautious eyes watched as Skirmish tossed a substance onto the flame. By instinct, he was ready to stop, drop and roll if the fire exploded. Pleasantly surprised, he relaxed seeing how the fire simply turned a pleasant green shade; he wondered how it was done. Was this magic or simple science?

Torchwood settled down by Banshee and Labyrinth. At the offer of the blanket corner, Torchwood happily accepted it as he scooched in closer. “Sure, we can be extra cozy too. Fires and blankets are perfects for listening to all these spooky theories.” Using his unicorn magic, Torchwood removed his sleeping bag from its carrying case and unfurled it across himself, Banshee, and extended the eyes out to Labyrinth and Muck as well.

As each said their theory, Torchwood nodded. “Sure, sure those all make sense. It could be any of those things. But, I think it’s a celestial entity visiting us. Have you ever seen an alien? They could be and look like anything or anyone. Who knows how a space creature could have evolved out there in the vast infinite cold of space. I’d want to come down to earth and hang out in the woods too. I mean... it could be a monster, or ghosts or a demon even. I won’t rule those out till I see it with my own two eyes... but a space invader seems so possible.”
